So, movement on the RPG front.

It looks like I can actually get that blessed thing finally done. Which means that I need to allot some time in December to finish a couple things, and also set up a Backerkit to help crowdfund it. So I’ll be doing that next month.

Feel free to take a look, if you haven’t yet: .80version. And check out my Patreon!

And check out my two books that go on sale tomorrow!

It’s Thanksgiving weekend!

More or less officially now. We did the stuffing tonight because my sister-in-law has this gluten thing, and actually eating it in front of her seemed needlessly cruel (I’ll finish the rest late tomorrow night, in accordance with the custom). We have the pies, we have the recipes, we start the bird tomorrow, and posting will be light because of the holiday.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Schrödinger’s cold.

A lot of stuff that’ll be happening over the next two days is going to be reliant on how my kids feel when they wake up today. We’ve had a cold rip through the house, and my eldest is at the pinnacle of the misery index from it. And my youngest, who has hitherto shown no symptoms… hasn’t woken up, yet. I usually don’t have to wake him up at all.

It is… ominous.

So, this Secret Level anthology has a D&D episode, apparently.

I turned it on wondering if we were getting something additional from DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: HONOR AMONG THIEVES. That would have been cool. But what did we get, instead?

Welp.

Wow, but this looks like ass. https://t.co/6xjCfHmiXk

In the E-Mail: 1637: THE FRENCH CORRECTION.

As is their custom, Baen is putting up the E-ARC for 1637: THE FRENCH CORRECTION up early for sale on their site. It’s good to get new books in this series. After Eric Flint passed, it was all up in the air for a while.

God damn cancer, anyway.

11/26/2024 Snippet, BANSHEE BEACH.

I have blocked out all the chapters and will be assembling and adding from this point out. Hopefully this will speed things up.

So instead of gibbering, I went with polite conversation. “So, Betty. Here for the sun, the surf, or the sights?”

‘Betty’ dimpled at me, as the waiter set down our desserts. “Oh, the thought of doing the beach down here sounded divine, Mr. Vargas!” Damned if I know why I was expecting the Banshee to bobble her response. “Cinderella is so industrious, honestly. It’s all so full of commerce and enterprise, and while that is lovely, I could get all of that at home.”

She waited until we were alone again. “And that’s really the answer. Mostly.”

“Mostly?” I took a bite of my chocolate cake, and raised an eyebrow.

“Problem?” asked the Banshee as I took a healthy slug of water. At least, I hoped it was healthy. Better to find out now if it wasn’t.

“The cook added cayenne pepper,” I told her. “It ain’t bad, but my mouth wasn’t expecting to get bitten back.”

She looked at her own cake, shrugged, and speared herself a deliberate hunk of it. “Cayenne and cinnamon,” she noted after a deliberate bite. “No arsenic, though. Shame: it always adds a bit of piquancy to a dish.”

I surprised her then — by laughing. “Nice try. Arsenic doesn’t have a taste.”

RIP, Jim Abrahams.

Via @EsotericCD. Jim Abrahams was part of the team that wrote some of the my favorite movie comic dialog. I’m sorry that he passed, but at least eighty is a good run. My condolences and prayers for his family and loved ones.

A HELPFUL quick recipe on sausage gravy.

As in, I’m not going to give you a bunch of SEO junk first.

Dinner tonight: biscuits with sausage gravy, and the last of the Oktoberfests. #winning pic.twitter.com/hjfKHMiOcd

You will need:

A stove with a burner and an ovenA skillet and spatulaA Jimmie Dean tube of ground sausageflourmilkA tube of Pillsbury biscuits (or, you know, make your own)Butter (optional)Beer (optional)

Heat oven to 350 degrees on general principles.

Open up the tube, break up the meat, dump it in your skillet. Cook on the burner at medium until it browns up. Drain the excess fat. Or don’t. Fat tastes good. If you don’t have enough fat, add a little butter for the fat.

Cook your biscuits. Pillsbury will tell you how. It’ll probably be at 350 degrees.

Dump in a couple of tablespoons of flour. Mix it up until the meat and grease has absorbed it. Then add some milk, a little at a time, until it looks like gravy. Let it keep cooking until the gravy thickens and bubbles, then reduce heat.

Check your biscuits. You want them golden brown and not scorched.

Pull everything out. Butter the biscuits, or don’t. Eat the gravy however you like. Have a beer with it, or don’t.
