Reboot – Effacement is now live!

I beg your indulgence for this first time author.

I received a 5-star review from Paul Goat Allen, a professional book critic who has worked with Publishers Weekly, Kirkus, and BlueInk Reviews, to name a few, and he was kind enough to reach out to me with some suggestions to make it even better. He thought the title and cover were not making it clear who I was marketing this book to. He thought it was going to be a police procedural based on the title and cover.

I took his advice to heart and have relaunched the book with a new name and a new cover. Otherwise it is basically the same book.

Those of you who bought the first edition have a collectors edition now. The story is the same.

Check out the book at Amazon here!

Mountweazels and Liars

Time Out: Lillian Mountweazel and The Incredible Jungftak

As I am wont to do, I went down another internet rabbit hole last night. I love learning new and interesting trivia.

If anything this post is more for my own repository. My girlfriend and I are taking turns reading chapters of a new book to each other. It is The Liar’s Dictionary by Eley Williams. Interestingly, she references in the preface a jungftak. It is a ficticious bird used as what is now called a mountweazel. The use of mountweazel comes from a fictitious entry in the 1975 edition of the New  Columbia Encyclopedia. The link above will tell you all about it. The Webster’s Twentieth Century Dictionary of the English Language (1943) inserted jungftak into its lexicon as a mountweazel, before the word was ever created.

Paraphrased from the book jacket flap of The Liar’s Dictionary: Mountweazel (n.) – the phenomenon of false entries within reference works to safeguard against copyright infringement.

Only a Little Blood is out in Print!

Turns out my timing was slightly off with my book release. The print version is available Now!

I spent long hours working on the formatting, for both the interior and exterior. Having never done this before, it took so many iterations that I lost count. The first night I was up until 2 am, and thought I had it solved. Two days later I finished the last iteration. It should certainly be in good shape now.

I hope you all enjoy Only a Little Blood!

My First Book is for Sale! (well, pre-order anyway)

It’s a momentous day for me. After twelve years at this I am finally putting out my shingle as an author. I was up until 2 am working on formatting for the print book and it will be out soon on Amazon. I am still loading it on other sites. But it is up for Presale now on Amazon KindleUnlimited, and will be exclusive there for ebook for the next three months. You will be able to get print additions elsewhere very soon.

Cover Reveal! Only a Little Blood

I hope you like it. I hired it out, didn’t like it, so I ended up making my own. The story is a near future thriller.

Here is the back cover blurb:

In the future, serious crime has all but disappeared. With the advent of BioNarratus’s Vitasync neurochip, recording every aspect of your life has become the law. Without it you can’t get a bank account, medical insurance, or a job. Unbeknownst to Cole Westbay, a government agency is bent on using the neurolink tools he helped develop to target and kill potential enemies. Before he can act, he wakes with his neurochip destroyed and his recent memory wiped.
Now the centerpiece of a government conspiracy and the target of every newsgroup on the planet, he’s on the run trying to solve the mystery before they shut him up permanently.

Cover Reveal in 3 Days!

I have the covers ready to go. Last night I finished the first round of line edits with my editor. I did a round of developmental editing then this, with one more line edit to go to make sure everything is where it’s supposed to be, then I will be publishing on Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing. I’ll be adding in a print version as well, but the ebook will be exclusive with Amazon for awhile. I have to say I’m very excited!

Working with Lauren Donovan of The Book Foundry has been awesome! She did an initial read through and she got everything I was trying to do right away. She even picked up on the subtle things I laced into the story, which made me quite happy. She had some insightful ideas about how to I might improve the story and then she did a wonderful job on the line edits. Her attention to detail is amazing! I couldn’t be happier. I just wish I had done this years ago. She is very reasonably priced, and I give her my highest recommendation as an editor. Thank you, Lauren! My story is so much better with her help.

Look for the cover reveal for Only a Little Blood on Monday!

Just a little music to make the day go better

Dangerous by Big Data and featuring one of my new favorite bands, Joywave. Apparently I am late to the game as this came out 6 years ago. But I will get to see Joywave in the fall at RIOTFest in Chicago…maybe…if the concert happens.

Brand Spanking New Book!

This is Donna’s first book release! Obviously this won’t be her last since this starts a series. She is a friend and a fellow alum of Seton Hill University. Here is the excerpt on Amazon:

Ellie must choose between a life of wealth and greatness or her own forbidden love. Her choice will change the world. Ellie learns the poppet trade, her family business isn’t as harmless as everyone led her to believe. With the help of a boy from the wilds named Moze, she tries to change the tragic system from within. When she fails, she must flee or her beloved Thom Poppet will be murdered to teach her a lesson.

I just downloaded it and can’t wait to read it!

You can buy it here!
