Barbara (Barbie to her friends) was raised in southern California. She attended college at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff where she met and married her husband, who's name happens to be Ken. After graduating with a BS in botany and an MS in biology, Barbie and Ken moved to Oregon where they both worked government jobs.

But one day, after a chance encounter with a stranger, Barbie learned that anyone with Italian ancestry (like herself) could apply for Italian citizenship based on their bloodline. Intrigued by that, she pursued dual citizenship simply because she could.
