MOST CHECKED-OUT BOOKS OF ALL TIME - NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY

1. "The Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats - borrowed 485,584 times
2. "The Cat in the Hat" by Dr. Zeuss - checked out 469,650 times
3. "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak - 436,016 checkouts
4. "Charlotte's Web" by E. B. White - borrowed 337,948 times
The classic "Goodnight Moon" by Margaret Wise Brown has a bit of a rocky history.

No doubt, the book would have been among the top three checkouts. A children's librarian named Anne Carroll Moore disliked the story. She disliked it so much when it was published (1947) that the library didn't carry it until... 1972.

A simple literary gem - hidden for 25 years!
Sometimes life is tough not only for authors.

MAN IS NOT HUMAN

I found this rather powerful short sentence while reading MAPS OF THE MIND by Charles Hampden-Turner. According to Mr. Hampden-Turner, it is a quote (page 67) credited to Eli Wiesel, Nobel Peace Prize winner and author of NIGHT. I searched the Internet, but the closest I came across was "no human being is illegal.' No doubt, 'man is not human' is extremely Herculean but I would be disappointed if Mr. Wiesel was misquoted.
