An author visit can be highly inspirational, inviting children to unlock their own creative potential, whatever form that may take, and encouraging them in their own writing.
Younger students especially are almost always thrilled to meet a published author, particularly if they have read...

Mega Dashboards and Instrument Panels - The Latest Article at Dark Roasted Blend

Check out the latest article at Dark Roasted Blend, entitled Mega Dashboards and Instrument Panels
Ever since man invented machines for transportation, we've had instrument panels and dashboards - from the steamships of the nineteenth century, the first cars and planes, through all the developments in land, sea and air transport throughout the twentieth century, not to mention spacecraft. For this article, I've avoided car and aircraft dashboards and panels, which we're all quite familiar...

Advice for Writers: Part Eight - Remember, Everybody Gets Rejected

In any profession, everyone has to start somewhere and writers are no different. Every published author out there was once an unpublished author. And of course if they had stopped submitting their work, they would never have been successful. Yes, it can be daunting, but no one ever succeeded by stopping trying. Fourteen publishers, including big names such as...

Advice for Writers: Part Seven - The Numbers Game

If a publisher rejects your work, they will not be publishing it, pure and simple. However, it also means that you are at least getting your writing out there. I've lost count of the number of people I speak to who have written a novel and still not sent it out. Yes, you have to feel its ready and in some ways it never will be, but some people are so fearful of rejection that they never submit anything at all.
Rejections can often come with constructive criticism and suggestions for...

Propaganda Posters of World War Two - The Latest Article at Dark Roasted Blend

Check out the latest article at Dark Roasted Blend, entitled Propaganda Posters of World War Two
During World War Two, propaganda posters became something of an art form and some examples are very well known even today. It's been claimed that truth is often the first casualty of war, and it is very interesting to see how the events of the time were depicted in this selection of posters and leaflets from both sides of the conflict.
