Did you ever have one of those days???

One of my favorite Elvis Presley movies is GI Blues, and I think it might have something to do with the song, Didja Ever? It's a song about one of those days when nothing is going right. Here's a sample:

Ya get up in the morning and turn the shower on

You're gettin' pneumonia, the hot water is gone

Freezin' sneezin'

You wanna dry your back, a well

Didja' ever get one of them days

When there's no towel on the rack

I think we've all had those days. Today was mine, but tomorrow will be a better day. Right? Right? Well, I can always hope!!

In the meantime, I'm over 11,000 words in to the sequel to Share Your Soul, my recent book release with Decadent Publishing. I'm loving the flow!

Favorite song today: Nothing Without Her by Nelly.

Fantabulous Review for Share Your Soul

Leslie from The Romance Review wrote a wonderful review for my latest release. This is a short excerpt of what she wrote:

In SHARE YOUR SOUL, Rachel Carrington has put together a thoughtful and sexy story, catching your soul as well, as you zip through this story. It holds you to the end, with a satisfying and well-told tale of love.

If you'd like to read the rest, here's the link:  http://www.theromancereviews.com/view...

This is my first new book release in over a year so I'm glad that I can still write what others will enjoy! Thank you, Leslie!

Wild Desires

I've always believed we've all had wild desires at some point. Maybe it's because we're not happy at our current job or with the way our lives have turned out. So we allow our dreams and desires to take us away into another world, sometimes a world that we know could never really be. Because I've always been a dreamer, I expected everyone else to have wild desires that extended beyond their current lives.

To help me with this blog post, I posed this question to my Facebook friends: If you could be anything else in life, what you would be and why? The answers actually surprised me.

One friend, Hannah Howell, said she was quite happy with what she was doing now (writing), and that her only wish would be that she'd started sooner.

Someone else wanted to be a wildlife photographer, Alesia Johnson, who, by the way, is already a beautiful nature photographer. So her dream is still within reach if she doesn't mind running from lions, tigers, and bears.

Sharon Bidwell, an author, wanted to be an artist/illustrator, and she even sold some illustrations when she was still in school. Shelley Patten-Forster would have done something with music, like play the guitar, if her art career hadn't taken off, and Nancy Hogan, well, she was the really wild one. She would have been a rock and roll singer and a guitarist as her first choice. Her second choice was a circus performer.

Others I spoke to beyond Facebook expressed interest in being better at what they do, having gotten their Masters, or doing something alongside their current occupation. No one told me they wanted to be anything else beyond the person they currently are.

So by asking this question, I actually discovered that wild desires are nothing more than simple fantasies we dismiss as we go throughout our lives, and that, given the chance, most people would still choose to be who they are…with maybe a little enhancement.

It's nice to know that there are still happy people who don't mind admitting they're happy with what they do and who they are for the most part.

Kudos to those who have found their bliss!

Thank Goodness for Skilled Surgeons

I know this might sound like an odd topic, but let me explain. I've had many, many surgeries over the past ten years, and I'm still here to talk about each and every one, though I don't often do that. At any rate, my last surgery was October 6th of this year, and I'm so thankful to have found a doctor who not only listens to me but explains everything in terms I can understand. That way, I don't have to rush home and start Googling.

As I mentioned, I don't often talk about my health atrocities, but I am extremely grateful to the myriad surgeons who have saved my life, fixed what was broken, and literally put me back together again. You're never so thankful for doctors than when you need them.

What are you thankful for today?

You Have the Right

Today, November 2, 2010, you have the right to not vote. No one is going to force you to leave your house, your job, or your golf game to vote. You are not legally required to vote. You will not be arrested if you don't nor will you be subjected to any penalties for failing to vote. No law enforcement official is going to demand to see proof that you voted, and you won't be fired if you don't vote.

So, if you decide not to vote today, rest assured you're safe, but those of us who do vote, who do leave our houses, our jobs, and our golf games to stand in line and cast our ballot, will wonder why you chose not to exercise a right that has changed the course of history throughout time, a right that can shape America.  We're curious why you won't take the time to vote but you'll take the time to complain about the elected official you didn't vote for.

You might say all candidates are liars, and that's why you don't vote. Or you're just not interested in politics. Or one vote doesn't matter. And the list goes on, but there is one thing you can't say. You can't say you don't have an opinion if you don't vote because you do. That opinion just happens to be: I don't care.  And those are three very scary words coming from an American.

Mellow Music

[image error]Today, November 1st, kicks off my brand new week of blog posts starting with a music review.

I love to listen to music when I write, and since I'm spending a lot of time writing late in the evenings, I prefer the mellow tones. Recently, I discoverd that one of my favorite actors, Stephen Collins, has a couple of CDs available, and I was thrilled.

His debut CD, Stephen Collins, just swept me away. Stephen Collins has this wonderful, soothing voice, and I found myself hitting the repeat button on several songs, including "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", which was originally recorded by The Shirelles, and  the Bobby Vee classic, "Take Good Care of My Baby". Yes, these are remakes, but, honestly, I much prefer these versions than some of the originals. I was especially impressed with his take on "Crazy" which is a Patsy Cline song. He did the song justice.

Needless to say, I'm glad I made this purchase, and I'll be buying his other CD, The Hits of Rick Nelson. I can't imagine his voice could be any smoother on those songs than it was on these. So if you're in the mood for some soothing tunes that bring back old memories, look no further than this CD by Stephen Collins.

That's just my take! Hope you enjoy!

A Whole New World…

Along with this website comes a brand new blog, and I hope you'll join me as often as you can. Along with the many weekly posts, I'll also be hosting giveaways, inviting other authors to blog with me, and interviewing authors, readers, and others in this industry we love so much.

Every Monday will be My Opinion posts. These will be my review of television shows, music, beauty products, clothing, stores, and everything in between. Hopefully you'll be able to find a new product you'd like to try or maybe taste the best cheesecake in the world. For what it's worth, it will just be my opinion.

Tuesdays are Talk It Out. Every week I'll talk about an issue that is close to my heart, things I'd like to see changed in the world, and/or things that I think don't get enough of the spotlight. Look out because this section might get rough.

On Wayfarer Wednesdays, I'll take you along on some of my journeys over the years and my upcoming ones. If I've visited a quaint town no one seems to know that much about, I'll be sharing it with you. From New York City to Sneedville, Tennessee, I'll showcase the good and the bad and possibly give you an idea for your next vacation spot.

Thanks Thursdays are for those people and things I'm thankful for. I believe in being thankful for everything I have in my life even if I don't agree with it at the time. Accepting life's challenges as well as life's blessings always improves my outlook, and I hope it'll do the same for you.

Friday Flicks are my reviews of all different kinds of movies. I prefer to focus on the smaller budget films or made for tv movies as some of the greats movies are being missed simply because the movie didn't get releaed in a theatre. So look for unique flicks here!

That's the schedule so far, folks. It's subject to change, of course, but, for now, it's finalized.
