"Meet Cute" in A Real Cowboy Always Protects
One of my favorite elements of my new book, A Real Cowboy Always Protects, is the moment we meet the heroine and hero in their first meet. I adore a friends-to-lovers story, where the hero and heroine have already been building an underlying foundation of trust before things turn romantic. I find it adds an emotional depth to the story that really makes everything they say and do matter that much more. In A Real Cowboy Always Protects, Logan and Skylar have been living across the hall from each other for two years. Both of them are determined to stay single, so neither of them has ever crossed that friendship line. The attraction has been building like an inferno this entire time, just waiting to be unleashed. When we first meet Skylar and Logan in the story, they have just run into each other in the elevator. Skylar is dressed in leggings, a baggy sweatshirt, and slippers for a midnight coffee run across the street. She feels like a complete slob, but the attraction between them is simmering so much you can practically touch it. I loved that she literally looks like a "basket of dirty laundry," and yet, he still sees her as his sunshine. To win him over, she doesn't need to look nice or wear makeup or be polished. She's just herself, in her staying-in-on-a-Saturday-night outfit, and for him, she's everything. Isn't that what love is all about? That by being your raw, vulnerable real self, that you're his everything? That's what this story is, the definition of that kind of love that is complete acceptance, including all the vulnerable, shadowed secrets that we try to hide from the world. Le sigh…

Only three weeks until the new Wyoming Rebels cowboy romance comes out! I'm so excited for you to read this story. It's my best one yet! Their story is so inspiring, a story that shows that no matter how bad it is, no matter how brutal your start is, that you can make it. You can find love, self-worth, and family that will love you and support you no matter what, forever. The Stockton clan is the epitome of loyal, rough and tough cowboys, combined with so much heart, so much emotion, so much passion. This world is ALL about the feels, and that's why readers keep coming back for each book. After you finish one of the Wyoming Rebels stories, you're left with a feeling that all is right in the world, that all CAN be right in the world, in your world, if you just don't give up, if you let love in. You don't have to be perfect. Whoever you are, is enough. That's a message I want every single one of my readers to absorb into their hearts. Whoever you are, it's enough. You deserve it all.

All of the Stockton cowboy books are emotional stories about healing, family, and love. They will get you right in the heart, and make the world shine a little brighter when you finish. This book, A REAL COWBOY ALWAYS PROTECTS, has that element woven throughout every moment. But this book also has a little twist to it, in that I brought in a heroine who, despite the challenges she has faced, looks at the world through a humorous lens. She is a refreshing and joyful burst of sass and spunk. An irrepressible force of that will make you laugh out loud even when your heart is full of the emotions pouring through the pages. Logan, the hero, has given up everything that matters to him to be a hero, but Skylar's zest for life helps him find the balance where he allows sunshine and love into his life again. After living across the hall from each other for two years, they finally get pulled together when Logan's CIA secret life puts a target on Skylar's back. To keep her safe, he takes her to his hometown of Rogue Valley, Wyoming as his fake fiancée, and the forced proximity raises the stakes in a hurry!

Huge news!
I’m pretty sure Wednesday was one of the best days of my life!! What happened Wed? I will tell you…
1) First, at 11:10am, I got my first vaccine shot. I literally cried when i walked in. I was so emotional. It felt like such an incredible gift!
2) Then, while I was sitting in the “wait and see if you have a reaction to the vaccine” chair at the clinic, I got a call that my book BURN was a finalist for Best Romantic Suspense Long in the Vivian Awards contest. The Vivian is the biggest award in romance fiction (it replaces the RITA Award, which was retired last year), and it is HUGE to be a finalist. What an honor!
3) Then, an hour later, I found out that my Wyoming Rebels boxed set, which has been on $.99 sale all week, hit the USA Today list! Holy cow! That was SO incredible! To give you background, I have made the bestseller lists ONLY as part of multi-author anthologies. I have NEVER made it on my own. I’ve been publishing for 21 years, and this has been my dream. And on Wednesday, it happened.
My dream, that I’ve been working for for TWENTY-ONE YEARS, finally came true. How incredible is that? #118, baby! Huge thank you to every single one of the 7,001 readers who purchased it last week!!
The boxed set ALSO hit #4 overall in the ENTIRE Kindle store! BLOW MY MIND! I’ve never been ranked even close to that. EVER!!

I really wanted to share these amazing successes with you. As many of you know, it’s been very up and down (lots of downs) for me writing-wise for a number of years. And now, to finally be feeling this incredible freedom and success is almost overwhelming.
Never give up. Never. Ever. Give. Up. Even after failing for twenty-one years, I didn’t give up, and my dream finally came true. If you have a dream, hold onto it, never let it go, and never give up hope or effort.

Going for a record, folks!
All this quarantine stuff has forced me into finding some new ways to entertain at home. My teenage daughter wants nothing to do with my awesome ideas, but Mr. Stephanie puts up with me. Our latest entertainment was inspired by our dog, Odin, who is obsessed with socks. He tosses them to himself, catches them, and then throws them again. The socks end up on book shelves, in trash cans, on the kitchen counter, in corners. Why? Because he is a very enthusiastic thrower. He gets so much joy out of this game, we decided that there must be something do it.
So, I grabbed a sock out of the clean laundry bin, balled it up, and then told Mr. Stephane I was going to throw it at him, and he had to catch it with his mouth.
Of course, he said, sure. Because he’s nifty like that.
I threw. He attempted to catch. Let’s just say, he’s not as good as the dog, but it was freaking hilarious.
As it turns out, it’s incredibly difficult to catch a sock in your mouth if you’re not a dog. Who knew, right? But on the plus side, there are no injuries when the sock bounces off your face and ricochets on your forehead, then your nose, and the flies off out of sight behind the bed, so it’s a no risk activity (unless you dive for the sock, in which case, that’s on you).
Try it. Seriously. It’s worth it. And have your camera out.

Do you love this as much as I do?
2020 gave me the gift of time, mostly because I spent every day sitting on my couch, staring out at the world that I used to run around in. That forced downtime gave me the chance to ground myself, work through a bunch of internal barriers dragging me down, and to build the emotional resilience and foundation to attack this new year with a positive attitude, exciting goals, and compassion.
A few of the things I'm super eager for this year:
1) Writing. This includes resurrecting some old series that I haven't added to in a while, and launching some new ones (like a hilarious, irreverent mystery series with a female amateur sleuth you will LOVE to pieces!).
2) Health. When I couldn't go to the gym anymore, I found YouTube workout videos. The first week of quarantine, even a single jumping jack hurt my Achilles, one burpee was too much, and I couldn't hold a plank for more than three seconds. Now? I hammer out those videos for an hour at a time. I can do things I've NEVER been able to do before, and it feels great. And this is just the start! Really looking forward to feeling the best I've ever felt in my life.
3) Relaxation. I've learned that taking the time to regroup when I start feeling stressed or off-balance is the very best way to make everything better. No more surging forward into battle. I stop, recalibrate, and then move forward again when I've calmed the storm. I love this new approach, and I'm the happiest I've ever been. My #1 mantra for the year: KEEP CHOOSING JOY. It feels so good!

Over here at Chez Rowe, we are in the middle of a backyard transformation! As part of the process, our awesome dude Ivan, who was making magic happen, laid some fresh cement for the new steps, and then disappeared for lunch.
What did I do while he was gone? Well, what would anyone do when left with wet cement and no supervision? I grabbed a stick and put my initials (and a heart!) in it, of course! So now, beneath the blue stone, my initials are embedded forever.
And it got me thinking...wouldn’t it be cool for some readers to wet-cement themselves into one of my books? I think it would, and since my world revolves around my self-entertainment, I decided to go for it!
