What's the difference between Erotica and Romance?
Lately, I have been told that my books are erotica, not romance novels. Now, before you agree or disagree, let me tell you - the people who are telling me this, have not read my books. So, you can see why it bothers me to be classified as a writer of the Erotica genre, by someone who hasn’t even read my work. Especially since Erotica is not my type of story to read, so how can I be writing it (insert brow furrow here).
But, needless to say, it made me think. Do I write erotica? So In order to answer this question, I decided to dig deeper and see what the differences are.
Erotica writing is a journey of a person (or multiple persons) sexual awakening. It is written so that the sexual aspects of the story are front and center, and remain the core of the story. A lot of erotica includes BDSM, and due to it’s content it can be unappealing for some (like me). I have noticed that a lot of erotica authors prefer to write novella’s or “shorts” (Under 50000 words).
Romance writing is the journey of a person (or person’s) life. Sex may be a part of that journey, but it is not “front and center” and it is not what the story line, or plot revolves around. Romance is made to make you feel emotions, more than arousal. It’s to sympathize or empathize with it’s protagonists and take you on a journey in your minds eye that feels realistic, incorporates scenery as well as plot lines. Most Romance novels are in the 70000 to 100000 word range as well.
So after much thought and a few discussions with a few other authors, in which I value their opinions, I conclude and will continue to call my writing Romance. Because, here’s the truth of it, the few erotica authors who read my book, didn't really have anything good to say about it. They feel that I write “Vanilla” sex, you know, sex just between a man and a woman who love each other (or are falling in love with each other) and don’t need to hit each other with whips and crops to get off.
So please, if you haven’t read my work, don’t lump it into a category that is not at all in the style of my writing.

Merry Christmas - SNEAK PEEK!
So here's a little sneak peek at Book #2 titled: Arrested Mind, coming out in the Spring of 2020! This story is about Mark and Molly and is the continuation of The Arrested Series.
I strive to write stories about every day people, just like you and me. People who are struggling with their own thoughts and issues, people you wouldn't mind having a beer with or being a friend of. Someone who will listen, but would also make you laugh. I hope that comes through in my writing.

NEW COVER REVEAL!
Well it’s finally here!
After wating for months and going through a lot of trial and error, we’ve finally come up with a new cover for ARRESTED HEART! The book is in its final stage of editing and I’m hoping to have it up and available in early November.
