Happy Thanksgiving

It's a great tradition to have an official day set aside just to acknowledge all the things we can feel grateful for. I sometimes get so caught up in solving problems or taking care of business that I forget to pay attention to how good I have it.

Tonight at dinner we all took turns saying what we were thankful for. I'm going to try to remember to do that more often, instead of just on this one day.

Right now I'm thankful for elastic-waist pants.

Back Home Again

I drove home from the beach yesterday, through South Carolina and through most of North Carolina. I went through some tiny, cute towns that looked frozen in the 1940s. I saw trees covered with Spanish moss, which always makes everything look so graceful and romantic. I love long drives in my car–this one was about five hours. For the first three hours, I didn't listen to music or my audiobook–just drove in the silence and let the road unfurl before me.

Back at home I fell into familiar...

Immortal Beloved

Watching the foreign rights sales for Immortal Beloved has been really exciting. I love that people in different countries will be able to immerse themselves in Nastasya's journey. This week I'm at a writer's retreat–I do this once a year. Basically it's me and a bunch of other writers holed up in a house on the beach, working on our separate projects. We don't talk to each other all day, but then gather at night and talk shop. They all do grown-up books–I'm the only one here who does YA...

Now that Immortal Beloved #1 is finished, I actually have to think about #2 and #3! I know basically what will happen, but I have to figure out everything between point A and point Z. But I have to say, I love Nastasya's story, and am having a great time in her world.

Happy Halloween/Samhain, everyone! I've finished working on my younger daughter's steampunk costume, and will be taking her and her friend trick-or-treating later. This is one of my favorite holidays. And the chocolate has not very much to do with it.

My editor at Little, Brown, Alvina Ling, has accepted the final manuscript for Immortal Beloved #1. Hallelujah! Now I'm going to go lie down with a cold washcloth on my head.
