What If the Greatest Battle You’ll Ever Fight Is the One You Cannot See?

One Woman's Journey. Every Person's Battle. Have you ever felt like something—or someone—was watching you? Have you sensed a shadow in a fully lit room, or wondered if the challenges you face are more than just bad luck? You're not imagining things. There is an invisible war raging all around us. A war between light and darkness. Truth and deception. Life and death. This is the reality The Victory Series explores through the unforgettable story of Mara—a woman who starts her life as a wounded, broken child and grows to become a warrior of God. Written straight from the heart and inspired by real-life pain and healing, this trilogy will open y...

What I Learned From the Back Seat of a Police Car

Have you ever had one of those days where it feels like everything's working against you? The plan was simple: a Mother's Day road trip. I loaded up my trunk with spring flower baskets and hit the highway to visit my mom, my sister (her birthday was coming up), and then, on the way home, my mother-in-law. All—good intentions. Now, let me back up for a second. I hadn't had a speeding ticket in years—mind you—not because I didn't deserve one. A few weeks before this trip, my luck ran out. I got caught speeding, and let's just say that ticket had me paying attention. So, for this Mother's Day road trip, I was hyper-vigilant. Eyes glued to the sp...

What Can You Get for Less Than a Cup of Coffee?

Not much these days… maybe a luke-warm gas station brew or a day-old donut. But what if, instead, you could spend that change on something that challenges your worldview, quickens your heartbeat, and reminds you of a battle you're already in—whether you realize it or not? For less than a dollar, (.99 from May 28 to June 1) Mara – The Unseen Battle invites you into a gripping story where spiritual warfare is not only real, but raging—right now. A Glimpse Beyond the Veil Set in 1970s small-town Canada, Mara – The Unseen Battle is more than just a suspenseful page-turner. It's a vivid reminder of the unseen struggle taking place around...

What Comes to Mind When You Hear the Word... Easter?

Easter…Chocolate? Beautifully painted eggs? A bunny? Baby chicks? A day off work? Oh, and did I mention chocolate? LOL. For me, it's definitely chocolate—but not for me—for my hubby! I dare not forget. But… I also contemplate suffering.I know, it's a weird combination. Jesus suffered a horrific death on the cross for me, so my sins could be forgiven. And I often ponder why God would use suffering to bring about salvation. He could have accomplished it any other way. And so I believe suffering is far different than we see it...it is a work being done. Can I really wrap my brain around that? Not fully. But I get a snapshot when I ...

Are You Aware of the Unseen Battle Around You?

Have you ever felt like something—or someone—was watching you? Ever sensed darkness in a well-lit room? Or wondered if a force beyond your control was working against you? We love stories about angels, God's love, and divine protection. But we also have an enemy—a real, living adversary who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. As Ephesians 6:12 reminds us: "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."(NKJV) I never expected to write The Victory Series—though the story has been stirring in m...

A Star is Born...

In this season where the star of Bethlehem is remembered, or in our culture of rising stars, how to be a star, and a star is born, I want to invite you to sit at the table with the One True Star who outshines them all. Few things fill me with such wonder and awe that I am struck both silent and small … a star-bejewelled sky on a clear dark night far from the artificial glare of city light will do it every time. Have you ever had the pleasure of sitting back with your eyes gazing upward with nothing more to do than to study the glory and vastness of God's incredible creative splendour? When we owned a cabin on a lake one of my favourite t...

Grief...How Does One Walk This Necessary Journey of Life?

There are no words to encapsulate the pain of watching someone you love dearly fade before your eyes. Like a flower in the field so beautiful one moment but all too quickly the bloom has wilted and the stem is drooping. In my second book in the Shenandoah Valley Brides, Amelia's Heartsong, I had a key hero pass away so that I could intentionally write about grief and how to walk through that valley. Those words come back to haunt me now and bid I live my own advice. I've traveled through grief before losing my dear nephew Tyler, my dad,  my brother-in-law Colin, and a number of good friends, but it never gets easier. My baby sister,...

Would You Like To Bloom Where You Are Planted?

Has life given you lemons when you expected ripe fresh peaches? Are you disappointed in your story? Is your marriage challenged? Are your children not all you dreamed they'd be? Is your career sucking the life out of you? Are you lonely? Did you wake up one day to find yourself a single parent? Are your finances less than you hoped as you head into retirement, or try to raise a family? Is lack of health dictating your future? Is your extended or blended family a huge drain? Are you disappointed in God orwonder if He even cares? In writing fiction, I hope to infuse real life dilemmas to encourage the reader in their own walk. In Katherine's Ar...

What Can a Picture Do?

This is not the type of blog I typically write. It is a plea for support but not without its reward. This piece of beautiful art has been created by my sister Donna for a God-inspired purpose, and you can be part of the story. Cancer is No Respecter of Persons. Every family is touched by cancer in some way sooner or later. Our family had two devastating blows this past year. First, my nephew, Isaiah, a strapping young man in his thirties with a wife and two little girls gets a cancer diagnosis that changed their world. The timing could not have been worse. It was the summer in-between teaching jobs as they had just moved to Vancouver Island f...

Wait For It!

Day 2 AD A somber lies over the city of Jerusalem. Jesus is dead. The skies open and heaven weeps a thousand tears. The Messiah has been cornered, crushed, crucified. Tortured for our transgressions. A mammoth rock and soldiers that guard the tomb seem to have the final word. The day is dark. Dreary. Disappointing. The disciples huddle in an upper room full of defeat. Their Teacher has departed. The women weep. But WAIT FOR IT! All is as it should be… The quiet is part of the quest for hidden treasure. The sorrow is part of the solace. The tears are part of the triumph. A plan with a purpose slowly unfolds. WAIT FOR IT! God is never aloof, or...
