Crusie’s Guide to Art 19
This is “David Garrick and Mrs. Pritchard in Macbeth” by Johann Zoffany, c. 1768. You remember when Macbeth and Lady Macbeth did the Hokey Pokey right before they slashed Duncan to ribbons.

This week I was harassed by my collaborator because he was going through hell moving and couldn’t take his exasperation out on his wife because he loves her, so he turned to me. I am a saint. I took my frustration out by buying two quilt patterns and fabric even though it’s been years since I quilted. No collaborators were injured in my frustration, but my bank account took a significant hit.

Crusie’s Guide to Art 18
First, sorry this is late I forgot it was Monday. Second, this was painted by Franz Dvorak in 1912. That’s it. That’s all I got. Sorry.

Happiness is Validation
What made me happy this week is that people liked Rocky Start. Every time I finish a book, I think it’s the end of my career. All I can see are the weaknesses, how far it is from the book I wanted it to be, the PERFECT BOOK. It helps a lot that Mayer is in there with me because he always nails his end of the deal, but every damn time I’m sure this one is a failure. So when people come back and say, “Hey, it was good,” the relief is intense. {NOTE: THIS IS NOT ME ASKING FOR COMPLIMENTS. I’M NEEDY BUT I’M NOT THAT NEEDY.]. Reading the reviews and comments for Rocky Start this week made me very happy. I think it even cheered Bob “We’re All Doomed” Mayer up. And thank you very much to everybody who read the book, whether you like it or not. That in itself is a HUGE compliment.

Argh Author: Lian Tanner’s When The Lights Went Out
Our own Lian Tanner, has a new book out, When the Lights Went Out, gorgeously illustrated by Jonathan Bentley.
“The night was frosty dark but we were snug and cosy in the kitchen.
When suddenly SNAP! the lights went out
and the dark came flooding in around us.
Mama? Dad?
I was scared!”
In the dark of night, a neighbourhood becomes a new country to explore, and an ordinary winter evening turns into a family adventure.
A reassuring story about finding comfort in community from the award-winning creators of Ella and the Ocean.

Spoiler Space for Rocky Start
For those of you who want to talk about Rocky Start, this space is for you. Do not read the comments if you don’t want the book spoiled. It’s no holds barred in there.

This week I read a lot of news because for the first time in weeks, the new was not making me throw up. I also sedated myself by reading through some of the Martha Grimes mysteries about Inspector Jury. Very soothing.

I have been working my butt off and I STILL didn’t get the Argh Author post up that I owe Lian. I did get the draft of the newsletter done and more on Very Nice Funerals and a lot of freezer meals made, but I’m still behind on everything else. Still, any progress is good progress, right? ARGH.
