Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

I want…more"Cape Decision" and "The Kabul Conscript" were both conceived about the same time. The Kabul Conscript is a sort of prequel to "Cape Decision." I wanted to write about 3 or 4 characters in their youth (early 20s) and in middle age. I was in Afghanistan in 1973 during the coup. The experience left a lasting impression, and I chose that setting for a sort of thriller/coming of age novel. I spent over 25 years in Alaska, and I love to sail. Those experiences gave me the idea to set "Cape Decision" in the wilderness of SE Alaska. There is a real "Cape Decision" on Kuiu Island, which seemed the perfect title.(less)

Short Arms, The Last Chapter

This is the final chapter. I have no plans to publish the tale. Writing it was a pleasant break (escape?) from working on my next book, which I hope to publish in 2026. I find it sometimes helps to work on other projects while I’m writing a novel. I usually have two or three writing projects going on at the same time.
