Magisterial Archetypes in the Kyanite Alliance VII. –Artist
We arrived to the second air sign, Libra. As opposed to the Virgo who is a devotee of puritan severity, this quality is all about beauty and arts. It’s represented by magister Diotor Aequitos, master of magical species.
Image: Pixabay, Mona TootoonchiniaAs an airy sign, Libra also fills a mediator role among the other signs – just like Gemini. However, they don’t connect people, communities and ideologies through the sphere of intellect but the world of senses and impressions. They realize that everybody has their own truth, so they can bring completely opposing viewpoints closer to each other with brilliant sense, as a real diplomat.
For Libra, arts and beauty aren’t only necessities, but tools of creating harmony. Therefore they “consume” them in a very different way from Taurus, who places the emphasis on possession and the delight of the material world. Libra approaches the sphere of aesthetics in a much more ethereal way. A delicious wine tasting is only the introduction to a discussion about the newest book, piece or exhibition for them. Moreover they often create themselves. So it isn’t surprising at all that the archetype of Libra is the Artist.
ExhibitionistOn this lowest level the Libra’s main desire is to experience love through the adoration of the world. The only important thing for them is being liked by others, but there isn’t any real spiritual content behind their ambition. They try to call everybody’s attention to themselves just like influencers who show off through their social media channels hunting for clicks, but without offering any real value. Their production, appearance and full substance are only the empty, superficial aesthetics, a collection of shallow things just to delight the senses.
ArtistOn this level the Libra has already found a great truth: looking of the Unity is very important for everybody. They also search for it through arts and romantic relationships. Moreover the urge for the aesthetic refinement of material level appears in their subconscious. The Libra already sees that physical form can’t provide the right alchemic solution, so they try to break away from this level by the aid of arts and erotica. They still don’t see the reality but at least they regard the world of aesthetic shapes through different glasses.
They look for ideal relations because they would like to create harmony between different people and theories. In favour of this they aspire to amicability and balance and prefer the diplomacy in their communication. But as the downside of this attitude they are incapable of a backboned statement. They mostly consider, hesitate and equivocate, avoiding a definite answer because they feel it would be hurtful. They don’t realize that they make self-denying, harmful compromises which suppress desires of their own heart.
Apostle of the Art of EroticaOn the highest level the Libra is fully aware of their main quest: restoring the state of original unity (unio mystica). They know that love must be separated from matter and sensuality, because it is not the physical aesthetics, but the spiritual psychical intimacy that is really important. The most essential recognition of this level is glimpsing and feeling ourselves in the other person (we meet the divine spark in them).
Magister Diotor AequitosMagister Diotor Aequitos turned out to be blessed with a great talent already as a child. When sang, his crystal clear, child’s voice charmed everybody in town, moreover upon listening to him, people felt a curious sense of peace. His agname comes from here, a version of the word aequitas which means psychical calm and balance. But the cherry on top regarding his talent was the ability to sing like any bird because he knew the language of every animals and magical species. His father was a cold and grumpy man who didn’t spend too much time with his family. But he also realized that Diotor stood out from his brothers. So his father made him learn from the most famous master, although he had to work day and night in order to pay for the lessons. But his efforts were worth it. Diotor was only thirteen years old when a lord from the neighbouring country picked up on his singing and hired him as a bard.
Image: Pixabay, ArtTowerThe boy was fond of his new luxurious life in the lord’s palace. Living with his quite well-off merchant father, he wasn’t lacking anything earlier either but he had to content himself with the most basic and plain meals and garments. At home he had never tasted such delicious gourmandises or wore clothes of so fine silk, velvet and leather like he did as a bard. Moreover his voice matured into a pleasant baritone and his virtuosic lyre playing was admired by the guests of his new master.
But as years passed, Diotor grew tired of the luxurious, but empty life. As he didn’t have any tasks except singing and playing, he sauntered a lot in the surrounding village. He saw that with the high taxes how hard people have to work to make a living, while the lord spent the money immeasurably. After this Diotor couldn’t sing the glory of his master with a honest heart anymore. Moreover his father demanded more and more money – even if the boy had supported his family constantly.
The turning-point was the moment when Diotor realized that he fell in love with Dióra, the daughter of the herb-woman from the village. Of course the lord wouldn’t even hear of the marriage. Therefore Diotor had to resort to fraud: he arranged his death, then he ran away with Dióra to a faraway country and they settled down there. The girl had learnt her mother’s profession and Ditor’s magical ability qualified him to help sick or injured animals as a whisperer. The newlyweds lived in a simple way but in peace and love. And when they sang together, they invoked a magic that Diotor could never do alone.
Photo: Istock, igorr1Diotor and Dióra joined to the Kyanite Alliance together as well, when they were about forty, after their four children had left the family home. The man who developed in himself the love of real beauty, the openness to heavenly love, the ability to create harmony and of course the knowledge of magical species, achieved the magisterial title eighteen years later. Now, with his ninety-eight years, he is one of the oldest masters. Unfortunately his wife isn’t alive anymore. But Diotor is still in love with the memory of his Dióra.

Magisterial Archetypes in the Kyanite Alliance VI – Servant
It is the turn of the second earth sign, Virgo. After Leo, who constantly desires the spotlight, a much more modest, but not less important quality reveals itself, which is embodied by masgistra Cellandris Viola, the master of camouflage and tracking.
Image: Pixabay, Gerd AltmannWhen a new life starts to grow – may it be a seedling, a cub, a child or a scientific research work – the protection against danger is as much important as the persistent nourishment. This aspect of talent for creating a safe and stable environment associated with earth signs is provided by the Virgo. They try to keep their territory clean and get rid of the potential threats and chaotic elements by their precision, sobriety and providence. They don’t even mind if the undertaken task is a little bit monotone. They delight in all this, and the orderly nourishing environment free of weeds compensates them abundantly for their efforts. The Virgo lives their life as a real humble Servant.
Half-learnedOn this lowest level, the Virgo researches inquisitively in every topic, but their knowledge stays superficial. They don’t really care about the depth of their learning, they want to prove themselves useful for the external world from a practical aspect. This compulsion for conformity can run so high that they try to adapt slavishly to everybody. They watch with eagle eyes, what people in their environment accept and they always provide exactly that like a sly weatherwane.
Their notion of fulfilment is survival by perfect adaptation. In the meantime they don’t realize that they aren’t overachieving control freaks, they only try to adapt to the existing system and the expectations of the authorities. They search for security obsessively, although everything changes around them constantly. It drives them into the role of compulsive cleaner and control freak. They believe if their life is organised, they can save themselves from vulnerability and insecurity. On this level the Virgo analyzes things maniacly because they look for the spiritual perfection inside the matter and they criticize because they would like to improve their ordinary life. They extend the control to the people close to them, so they often come across as puritan or act like the commander of a barrack. They apply strict educational methods as a parent as well.
ScientistOn this level, the Virgo knows the subject already more intimately. Their basic ability is the analytic systematization of data. When they start to use this talent well, they immediately receive one of their most important mental vitamins: they feel themselves useful. For this they develop their intellect during all their life, because they believe the world is knowable by ration and circumstances of life are controllable, so dangerous situations are exterminable. On this level, the Virgo can acquire equally the most ordinary materialistic knowledge and the highest spirituality. Moreover they try to translate the theory into practice by the aid of their tireless diligence. They try to solve the big spiritual mystery through lexical knowledge, but the essence of life is slipping through their fingers during their hectic research. Overstepping the border between material and transcendent is one of the biggest challenges of the Virgo. When they don’t succeed, they often escape into scepticism and deny the existence of things beyond the physical reality.
Healer-TheologistOn this highest level, the Virgo faces one of the biggest lessons of their life: it is a clear abuse when perfection forces the sphere of instincts into logical systems. It is exactly this prude morality that makes this ancient power living in us so dangerous; it can explode in any moment because of the aggressive pressure.
On this level, the Virgo have already transcended themselves, so they are open-minded towards the spiritual world. They collected profound knowledge about the soul during their inner journey and they can profit a lot from it in the field of psychology and liberal arts. They still try to separate the essential from the irrelevant by their analytic way of thinking. But on this level they don’t do this to calm their distress, but in order to always find the best solution in tough situations.
Another important mission of their life is to transmit higher spirituality and to connect it to the physical reality. They also know that problems in the world can’t be solved through the material sphere (however they would do everything for the physical and mental recovery of others). The road that led up to here wasn’t easy, but the Virgo is now conscious enough to know that they needed to go through all that experience in order to arrive to those important recognitions.
Magistra Cellandris ViolaMagistra Cellandris Viola, just like magister Garon Tereus, comes from a royal family. But as opposed to the fiery leader of Bellicosuses, the magistra never lived a privileged life. She was just a baby when a group of nobles slaughtered the royal family whose members showed favours toward the common people instead of the nobility. A loyal and selfless handmaid rescued Cellandris from the castle in the last minute, then she asked for shelter in a convent.
Image: Pixabay, icheinfachGrowing up, Cellandris got acquainted with the tragic history of her family and the role of the handmaid in her escape. At that very moment Cellandris made a resolution to become a humble servant to her fellow-beings just like her saviour was. Her agname, Viola refers to the modest violet. Cellandris always liked to stay in the background and she was completely satisfied with her puritan life. Her talent for camouflage – which is her magical ability as well – often saved her life: the rebel nobles still searched for her many years after the royal family’s death. But she could melt into her environment just like a chameleon, so she always escaped from the soldiers looking for her.
Cellandris was very young when she joined the Kyanite Alliance. She felt that undertaking the duty is her obligation, but breaking away from the frames providing security of the convent was a very huge trauma for her. In the beginning she acted rigidly and distanced to everybody. The rampant revel while celebrations shocked her, she was impatient with her dense headed fellows and the cultuses alien from her just like the armed combat or the meditation annoyed her. She started to feel safe on the island of Roanaa and loose on her convulsive attachement to the familiar things due to the motherly magistra Artemesia Patientia. She became acquainted with her new fellows step by step and she helped her by learning very much. But she kept the celibacy in her new life as well and she never let any man close to her.
The former sister could deploy her analytical ability by studying the techniques of camouflage and tracking. She became so successful in this field that she deserved the magisterial title. Magistra Cellandris is a little bit older than magistra Balthamos, but she is the newest among the masters: she had been ranking this position only for one year when Kyra arrived on the island of Roanaa.

Magisterial Archetypes in the Kyanite Alliance V. – King
We arrived to the second fire sign, Leo. This majestic quality is represented by magister Garon Tereus, master of magical combat and leader of the Bellicosus family.
Photo: Pixabay, Robert GreeneAlthough the Leo belongs to the fire element, in their case the emphasis isn’t on brute force or the momentum needed to begin. This sign already leads a complete empire, for example as a captain of a team, a boss or head of a community. They have an especially good hand to keep a group together. Look at the ones they are in charge of from their high throne, they can see the whole picture, give the most fitting task to everybody and inspire them with the most appropriate method. So it isn’t surprising that the King shall be the archetype of the Leo.
The Overbearing TyrantOn this lowest, almost beastly level, selfish possessiveness, egoism and despotic violence characterises the Leo. Existing as a real dictator, they think they power is automatically due to them without doing anything for deserving it. They maintain their overbearing domination even by violence. They expect everybody to serve them, because they consider people around as their propriety. Moreover they want themselves to be celebrated and glorified without respecting human values.
They always want to stay on the top because the rush invigorates them, furthermore they want to experience the limits of their possibilities. On this level the vanity of the Leo is so strong that they can’t accept criticism at all and can’t hear the judgement of their „crowd of admirers”. They find it very hard to admit that they still have a lot to learn, so they pretend to know everything.
Domineering MonarchThe ego is still pretty strong on this level and the greed for power is still a very dominant feature. They aspire to enjoy every single drop of life and to come in for a lot of „top experience”. The other big trap of this level is the addiction to the appreciation of the outside world, because the Leo’s ego constantly needs external ratifications and the applause of others. So their apparent calm composure covers a deep insecurity, because they always pay attention to reactions from the outside world to their royal role and appearance. Their search for independence and desire for liberal assertiveness is already stronger on this level, but all of this is still guided by the ego. Furthermore, generosity also appears in them, but always combined with other interests. They feel that respect is due to them in exchange.
Sacral KingOn this highest level the Leo embodies the analogy of the priest-king, the keeper of faith. They already know that a real king serves his people humbly; it has been matured in his soul through his long life experience.
In this phase the Leo’s power equals their sense of responsibility. They feel that they have to undertake the task of wise leading and domination given to sacral kings, which can guide them to the self-fulfilment. They hold together their community by their love and wisdom, just like the Sun holds planets in its gravitational field, and keeps awake the universal faith. They are already really just and generous kings who are in direct connection with the Celestial hierarchy, so they are always able to follow noble goals.
Magister Garon TereusMagister Garon Tereus, master of magical combat and representative of the Leo archetype has the ability to lead in his nature. His agname, Tereus refers to Tereus, the Trace King (however the lustful monarch’s most famous action is diametrically opposed to the way that Garon lives). Garon also comes from a royal family and as the eldest son he was to succeed on the throne. The brave, sincere and charismatic Garon would have been a worthy successful, but his brother plotted against him. Karus organized the assassination of the king and the queen then arranged that every evidence clearly suggested that Garon was guilty.
Photo: Unsplash, Jonathan PetitBefore the assassination attampt Garon was visited by a charmer who could see through Karus’s intentions and tried to warn the prince that his brother was plotting against him. Although it was known that Garon possessed magical abilities (he was able to detonate anything with bare hands), he considered the shadier, less concrete branches of magic as scam and despised them. In addition, he firmly believed in the power of family and considered all accusations against his brother as dirty lies. So he sent the charmer packing. Despite this, the man helped Garon to escape from the dungeon before his execution; he opened a portal for the prince to the island of Roanaa.
Magister Silvanus didn’t plan to call Garon (the soul of the prince didn’t indicate that he was ready for the challenge). But Garon’s heart was so overflown by gratefulness toward the charmer and the Kyanite Alliance that he proved himself to be a very precious ally right from the first moment. He earned the position of magister barely five years after accomplishing his training. Garon had to experience the pain of betrayal and the state of disgrace in order to lose his pride and his prejudice against the mysteries of the empire beyond the material world. He could become a sacral leader only after accepting the representation of the groups entrusted on him with humble heart.

Magisterial Archetypes in the Kyanite Alliance IV. – Mother
We have finally arrived to the first representative of the water element: the Cancer. Compared to the intellectual and extroverted Gemini, this sign represents a very different, much more emotional and introverted quality. In the Kyanite Alliance it is magistra Artemesia Patientia, the master of healing who embodies the archetype of Cancer.
Photo: Pixabay, NewportBaptistChurchNCThe Cancer is especially sensitive and susceptible to other’s sentiments. As a raging storm, a sweeping ship or a rock thrown into a lake smooth as glass can disturb the water and create waves, the Cancer can also take over other people’s vibes. This extreme empathy can be useful if we think of the archetype associated with the Cancer, the Mother. At the same time this ability might be exhausting as well because the Cancer takes everything to their heart, they can’t set boundaries or look at other’s „baggage” only as an external spectator.
The SymbioteOn this low level the Cancer’s motto could be: go ahead on the back of others. One of their biggest problems is the lack of initiative and brave action. The other problem is emotional attachment. If something touched them once, they can’t really let it go anymore. They basically have a very strong need of emotional security and warm familial atmosphere. But the more deeply they withdraw into this comfort zone the more their desire for freedom becomes. And they often resolve this ambivalence by childish daydreaming and nostalgia. In this state the Cancer tries to make their way in life by shifting responsibility to others. And if this tactic doesn’t work, they try to manipulate people in their environment directly by playing the „poor me” role in order to provoke a sense of guilt in them and extort some results. This pattern appears with young adults who don’t want to leave the familial nest or enter into the world of work because of comfort or fear. But parents who don’t allow their children to start their own life also represent this lowest level of the Cancer archetype.
HesitantOn this level the Cancer is still anxious, shy, too adaptive, sensitive and thin-skinned. Sitting on the fence is their main strategy for survival. Thus they don’t go into any risky venture and avoid conflicts. If they run into an obstacle, they shy away from it, hide and flee into their past. They are still afraid of initiative. Mercurial emotions, suggestibility and self-pity are typical of them and these block responsible self-fulfilment. On the one hand, they try to answer the requirements of outside world very hard, on the other hand they don’t want to take responsibility even for themselves.
EmpathOn this developed level the Cancer is typified by empathetic care and sympathy. They know that they have to care for their fellow- beings in some way – either by creating and maintaining the warm of home or as a healer. They feel intuitively that their main mission in life is to live superior sentiments. On this level, they can finally take their destiny in their own hands, moreover they undertake noble quests to help other people. They have the most important tools for this as their intuitive-empathic ability is strong and their sixth sense is advanced enough.
Magistra Artemesia PatientiaBy arriving to the Cancer, the previous tendency of inverting masculine and feminine qualities is restored. The archetype of Mother is embodied by an old magistra, Artemesia Patientia.
Photo: Pixabay, Gerd AltmannActually Artemesia doesn’t possess any magical abilities. So her name will go down in the history of the Kyanite Alliance by becoming a magistra from a helper. How is it possible? Of course it is due to her selflessness and caring instinct lived in the purest quality. Her agname, Patientia means patience which refers to her biggest strength, the ability of eternal love and care.
When Artemesia’s daughter, Olivia had been chosen to join the Kyanite Alliance, the woman escorted her to the island of Roanaa. As a recent widow nobody and nothing bounded her to the world where she was born. Therefore she decided to consecrate the rest of her life to the support of Olivia and the Kyanite Alliance.
While Olivia learnt, then later joined the family of Charmers and set off on different planes of existence, Artemesia took care of the children of the members of the Kyanite Alliance as a nanny and immersed herself into material and transmaterial sections of healing. In the end, she became such a great expert of the topic that magister Silvanus elevated her into magistra and asked her to transmit the knowledge she had collected for many years. Thus Artemesia’s life is the perfect example that one can become great by „only” creating the peaceful hinterland for others.

Magisterial Archetypes in the Kyanite Alliance III. – Merchant
Our third archetype is Gemini. After the calm and considered Taurus, Gemini is a real rolling stone who possesses outstanding communication skills, despite being sometimes a little deconcentrated. Every bit of the Gemini reflects the air element. And who could represent its qualities better than magistra Balthamos Levitas, master of the languages?
Photo: Pixabay, Szilárd SzabóInformation flow is a necessity for the Gemini. They pick up fresh crumbs of knowledge, news and gossip as swift wind in order to forward them. Since they only brush the surface of exciting ideas, they might seem well-informed but their knowledge stays superficial. However their task isn’t necessarily to become an expert of a particular field, but to connect people with the most adequate information like air carries different things. Making contacts easily and quickly also belongs to the Gemini’s abilities so the archetype of Merchant perfectly fits to them.
FraudOn this lowest level the Gemini misuses the faith of others trust without feeling any remorse. They are cunning and sly so they know perfectly how to manipulate others. They use their ability on a level similar to seller’s lying in wait for their prey in shopping centres where they sell low-quality stuff for exurberant prices. They list the advantages of their product with so much enthusiasm that they manage to attract customers. In the meantime the Gemini calms their conscience by telling themselves that they only provide the costumers with the objects of their desire. Since their morality isn’t very developed yet, they don’t achieve the phase where they think about what is better for their fellow-creatures: selling a product which might be harmful for them or offering them nothing at all.
BusinessmanIn this level an unquenchable desire appears in Gemini to get to know the world. They look for experience eagerly, because their mind is open for every novelty. Thus they would like to know and observe as much as possible but without real commitment. They are extremely multifaceted people who start more activities at the same time, but don’t invest too much energy into any of them. They act like this because their curious mind can’t focus and disperses their concentration.
The ability of mediation also appears on this level, but it is distorted by selfish interests: the Gemini wants financial power. The root of their failures is their attempt to focus on everything at the same time in a superficial way. Moral values aren’t really important for them. They only want to sell the product, knowledge, service or feeling they think people want.
Messenger-MediatorOn this highest level the Gemini is already a credible mediator of spiritual knowledge. They dedicate their communication skills and contact making abilities to higher spirituality. Consequently they don’t bargain anymore, so they don’t waste their talents and they transmit only real and useful knowledge to their disciples.
Magistra Balthamos LevitasThe case of Gemini is similar to Aries: I imagined a female character to a more masculine quality. So the archetype of the Merchant is also embodied by a magistra.
Photo: Pixabay, Free PhotosMagistra Balthamos Levitas is a cheerful young woman who instantly strikes the right note with everybody. Her agname, the Levitas means ‘lightness’. Her lifestory is pretty uncommon in the history of the Kyanite Alliance. She became orphan with her three siblings after their parents died during a mugging. Originally the children didn’t have any magical powers. But the cunning little girl who was often up to mischief, enticed their siblings to steal a lamp and its resident, a genie from the merchant who arrived to their town. Balthamos hoped that their problems would be solved this way and they don’t have to beg anymore. But one of their wishes had unexpected circumstances; all four of them became wielders of magical powers. So they also became fit for joining to the Kyanite Alliance.
Balthamos and her siblings moved to the island of Roanaa already as children. The novicia was interested in everything the masters taught her but she had a special talent for acquiring languages. After the Trials of Elements she joined the Exploratoris family (even if she felt a little bad about dismissing the three other possibilities). Balthamos lived the archetype of the Merchant during her quests by always exchanging of precious information. She had a brilliant sense for these things.
When the magisterial title had been offered to her, she found it very hard to imagine herself in the new role. In the beginning she was unwilling to leave the other planes of existence behind and settle down in the predictable environment of the island of Roanaa. But the training of novicias and novices of different ages and background offered the magistra a challenge which compensated her aplenty. She always manages to bring together the newer and newer groups due to her unpaired ability of making contact, her lightheartedness and sense of humour.

Magisterial Archetypes in the Kyanite Alliance II. – Lover
The column of Magisterial Archetypes continues after the fiery Aries with the Taurus. How is the developmental process of this calm zodiac sign that keeps their feet always on the ground? How could magister Septimo Voluptas get along with this?
Image: Pixabay, DarkmoonArtThe Taurus is the first one among the earth signs. It is connected to the renewal, flourishing and maintenance of things planted earlier. We can think of a plant that had already fought its way through the hard soil and darkness in order to feed from vital water and sunlight and begin to grow outside. Pleasant things connected to gain and growth are very important for the Taurus. In order to be able to look further than these, they have to go a very long way. So the archetype of Lover appears not only in its first, most concrete meaning. Beside physical love, they also adore delicious meals, tasty drinks, designer clothes or relationships providing security.
The HedonistOn this level people are interested only in chasing transient sensual joys. They don’t have any real life goals except a distorted Carpe diem philosophy and they let themselves be driven by the magic of the moment. They only use material things to make their life easier and more enjoyable and to provide a sense of security for themselves. Their roots stretch too far into the ground, so they get stuck on the level of Mother Nature’s vegetative proliferation. Therefore a pleasant, lazy state similar to the lukewarm water begins to dominate their whole life. If the Taurus becomes the prisoner of an addiction and isn’t able to control it, the situation gets much worse.
The PhilistineThe Taurus on this level is still a compulsive materialist, who is willing to see the world only through materialistic things and rate others from this aspect. They think that existential progress elevates them from the greyness of everydays and the goods they possess bestow a higher value upon them. But some empathy has already appeared here, the ability of taking care of others and the moral need to gather earthly possessions not only for the Philistines themselves but for their close family as well. Passing this level people face a big dilemma. On the one hand, they feel that they aren’t able to give up their possessions, so they can become prisoners of them. On the other hand, the openness for spiritual values and desire for collecting them rises in the Taurus. This can manifest itself in the love of arts or the taking care of nature. So the possession of pleasant things starts to gain a higher sense.
The SteadfastOn this highest level of self-fulfillment the Taurus can’t be dissuaded by promises of earthly goods, because their solid faith holds them. Neither intense temptations nor failures can break their stable stance. So they are already capable of being the depository of faith and creating something lasting for mankind. They can be considered as a reliable spirit, because of their loyal temperament, who protects and keeps their values. They are people with a mature personality who build and fill with force the things essential for them and their group’s collective spiritual good.
Magister Septimo VoluptasJust like in the case of the Aries, I imagined the gender of the Taurus master as the contrast of the quality represented by him. So I figured out a male character to the Lover archetype even though it is a feminine quality.
Image: Pixabay, Stefan KellerMagister Septimo Voluptas, master of potion making has a calm, pleasant personality and it is rather difficult to upset him. His name, Voluptas means sensual. Both his parents were Salutarises, so the master grew up on the island of Roanaa. Septimo doesn’t have any siblings, but already as a child he had many little friends and he had a lot of fun in their company. But alas when somebody dared to touch his collection of small relics without permission!
In his youth Septimo enjoyed life to the fullest, but never overdid it. His interest in plants evolved quite soon and he proved himself to be an outstanding talented at mixing potions. Due to this he received the magisterial title after the death of his predecessor.
The magister is one of the most enthusiastic participants of Celtic feasts up to this day. He seems soft because of his curving belly and jovial behavior. But actually the master is extremely tough in physical and mental sense as well and represents the ideas of the Kyanite Alliance as steady as a rock.

How Do Salutarises Heal
If you have read the article about members of the four main families in my book and the ancient elements connected to them, you might wonder how their training looks exactly. This topic is especially interesting in the case of healers who have to acquire very diversified knowledge.
Photo: Pixabay, José Manuel de LaáThe leader of the Salutaris family is magister Septimo Voluptas, however the master of healing is not him but magistra Artemesia Patientia. Their expertise overlaps and complete each other. Let’s see what they give to novicias and novices who have chosen to learn healing!
Map of Bones and FleshThe first and most important thing that a future Salutaris has to learn is the human body structure. Since the worlds are inhabited by different species, this might seem a little discriminative. But the body structure of dwarves, elves, legunids, mermaids and other sentient beings is very similar to humans who are mostly in majority. So Artemesia Patientia considers it as a starting point. Healers have to know the position and particularities of bones, muscles, intestines and nerves, because they regularly take care of survivors after a battle. Of course knowing the anatomy is very important also for warriors in order to protect themselves well and attack with the highest precision.
Photo: Pixabay, chrisjmitHealing Herbs and Magical MixturesKnowledge of different potions and poisons is also essential for a Salutaris disciple. So magister Septimo, master of potion-making has a very important role in their training. He shares his knowledge about the features, location and usage of herbs with pleasure. Moreover he helps by refining the senses of his most receptive students. So they will always find the most similar plant to the ingredient of a certain mixture on every plane of existence even if they have a very different flora.
Photo: Pixabay,Bkrmadtya KarkiPersonal EssenceThe potions mixed by magister Septimo are doubtlessly very efficient. One of them brings deep dream, the other one makes its consumer invisible and another takes them back to the state of childish naivety for a couple of hours. But magistra Artemesia Patientia deals only with infusions of herbs. She makes them more efficient by adding different essential oils according to the particular energy of the patient. For getting a feel of the certain essences that somebody needs, students have to practice a lot and develop their intuition.
Photo: Pixabay, Marina PershinaHealers from the Womb of the EarthIf the right herbs aren’t at hand or a healer has run out of them during a mission, crystals can also render a good service. A package containing rock-crystal, smoky quartz, rose quartz, jasper, sodalite, agate stone, sunstone, cornelian and other stones is the part of the equipment of Salutarises just like their sword. Healers choose every single piece of their collection very carefully. Actually they let the stones choose them. And after they have found each other, crystals are able to magnify the vibes of Salutarises especially if they ask it consciously.
Photo: Pixabay, alusruviHelping WordsAs some spells can render a service during a magical combat, there are others which can help in healing. But their number is quite limited and in themselves they aren’t suitable for healing. Spells are restricted to help to gain time in taut situations when every moment counts. For example they speed up the effect of an infusion of herbs and slow down poisons.

Who Is Braver? – His Dark Material Movie vs. Series
Philip Pullman‘s His Dark Materials trilogy really deserved to be taken to the screen. Although the book series belongs to Young Adult literature, the worlds brought to life in them can enchant every generation from teens to parents and grand-parents.

Unfortunately the adaptation of the first book, The Northern Light (titled The Golden Compass in North America and some other countries) by New Line Cinema in 2007 didn’t bring the expected income. So The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass never arrived on movie screen. It seems, however, that the series debuted in 2019 took the hurdle well and this time the whole trilogy will be adopted by BBC and HBO. What is the reason for this success?
Depths and HeightsPhilip Pullman’s trilogy is rather multifaceted, therefore it can speak to every age group. Children love the daimons represented as cute talking animals while teenagers adore the exciting worlds discovered by our twelve-year old main character, Lyra. Furthermore, the story also contains scientific, ethical and philosophical issues that hold the attention of readers who passed the girl’s age a long time ago.
The series reflects this complexity much better than the movie did. The director of the latter, Chris Weiz yield under the pressure of the Catholic League, which admonished the potential public to boycott the movie because of the atheist world view appearing in the story. So the director softened a lot on the novel’s very critical tone towards religion. However by this he eliminated essential elements, and the movie became much more superficial than the original story. The people at BBC and HBO were luckily much braver in this field and reflect exactly Philip Pullman’s not too flattering opinion about the Catholic church.

Not only did the criticism of religion become stronger, but also tough moral tests missing from the film adaptation found their place in the new series. The crippling compromise Chris Weitz made is still not an excuse for cutting these scenes. The most spectacular example is the hint that we get already in the beginning of the story: Lyra will become a traitor. Reconciling this claim with the character of the reckless, curious and honest girl is quite difficult, so the tension is growing in us permanently. When and how will it happen? Is it possible that the strange device, the aletiometer was wrong this time? But we know we’re hoping in vain. And the series – in contrast with the movie – not only undertakes this fatal fault of Lyra but shows it in a much more heart wrenching way compared to the book.
Better PacingThe colourful world of The Golden Compass paints an outstanding background to the diverse content. Showing everything from the prestigious Jordan College in Oxford through Mrs. Coulter’s elegant flat in London to the threatening Bolvangar and Svalbard and all the human drama evolving in these requires a couple of hours. That’s what unfortunately weren’t available for Chris Weitz. No wonder that squeezing the story of The Golden Compass into the running time of an average fantasy was a disaster. Watching the movie we might have the impression that characters aren’t really present and only rush through every obligatory scene and event.

Adapting the story for the series format had a lot of beneficial effects. Besides every essential moment of the book taking place, the showrunners also added extra scenes, which work with the spirit of the original version very well. The new team (Dafne Keen, Ruth Wilson, James McAvoy, Ruta Gedmintas, James Cosmo, Anne-Marie Duff) has enough time to really invest themselves in a character and a conflict instead of only passing over them. Due to this, their acting is much more human and emotional than we have seen it in the movie version.
Parallel WorldsProbably a lot of those who had a go at the series, already know the story of His Dark Materials. So it isn’t a big surprise that events don’t take place in one but in multiple different worlds. Cutting in some scenes from the other Oxford and introducing Will, who appears only in the second book, The Subtle Knife was a brilliant idea. In this manner spectators receive an extra mystery which evolves step by step from episode to episode.
To sum up, it’s clear that the new series adaptation of the His Dark Materials became much more successful than the old film version. It stayed closer to the spirit of the book. So it seems that it is worth to be gutsy and go against the current when adapting a well-known story.

Through the Empire of Personified Natural Forces – Reign of the Black Flame Tetralogy
This time I’m presenting you a story in which the natural forces have a much more important role than in The Kyanite Alliance. The ocean, the clouds, the sun, the moon, the night and the dawn all have their own personality in the “Reign of the Black Flame” tetrology dreamed up by B.B. Vayk. Already the first part of this folktale-like story, The Waterglobe captivates readers so strongly that we can’t put the book down.
B. B. Vayk, photo: FacebookEnter a never before imagined fantasy world – teases the banner of the author’s Facebook page. If we look through the breathtaking images of the personified natural forces, we find the cover of the book. Seeing the hand holding the globe in its clutches, we might think of the Satan. Furthermore, the bright celestial castle and its opposite, the black fortress bordered by lava that evokes images of hell assure readers that they can become part of an epic fight if they take The Waterglobe in hand.
After Fire stole the Waterglobe, the empire of the Queen of Clouds and the world of humans are in danger. Robert Ground, the smart swordsman and gardener has to take back Water’s most precious treasure. He crosses the mystical world of natural forces, who aren’t necessarily famous for their hospitality. Moreover Marian, the beautiful but moody girl who joined Robert during his trip, is planning to accomplish her master’s command and kill the boy.
Image: Pixabay, Meryl KatysEven though Marian is the loyal servant of the cruellest natural force, Fire, she seems more like a hysterical diva than truly evil. It becomes clear soon that she isn’t rotten to the core and her personality will develop throughout the story. We foresee the change, but her evolution is still intriguing. Marian faces challenges that strip her off the masks of pride, vanity and arrogance, so she can be reborn as a completely different person.
At the beginning we get to know Robert Ground as The Ideal Male Main Character who is handsome, strong, brave, smart, charismatic and especially popular with the ladies. His only fault is that he isn’t able to let anybody close to him because of his family background. He lives in an odd and provoking way because he doesn’t feel like settling down at age twenty. The girls from the village can not get closer to him, but neither can the readers because of his too perfect image. But as the story unfolds, it becomes clearer that even Robert isn’t invulnerable. Besides the serious injuries received during his duel with Winter – which aren’t surprising at a combat between a human and a natural force – we can also witness the boy’s heart getting an apparently unhealable wound.
Image: Pixabay, efesI have to mention the description of the world the two main characters walk through. Beatrix did an excellent job when she created the empire of Clouds, Fire, Sun and Night. The colours, the ambience, the appearance, gestures and habits of the natural forces, moreover the name of their meals all contribute to the depiction of the special atmosphere of the imagined countries. Reading these parts we really wish to be able to enter into the book.
So the promise tempting us to read the story wasn’t a false one.. I liked The Waterglobe‘s unique, folktale-like style which is so different from main stream fantasies. B. B. Vayk’s world enchanted me completely, so I wholeheartedly recommend it to everybody.
