FRACTALISTIC–The review!

Before I jump right in with the reason you are here, I want to entice you with the book cover and what this awesome book is all about!

Yep! That’s EXACTLY what I thought when I saw the cover. FREAKING WOW!!! And of course, I had to read the book! You can buy it here: https://amzn.to/2xmR4vF

What is this book about you say?

After moving to Mexico with her parents, Winter Gutan had been hoping the local alternative medicine doctor would cure her mother’s illness. When her mother does not survive his controversial treatments, Winter’s life spirals in despair. Her father, a software engineer, insists his computer program, Fractalistic, will enable them to communicate with her mother’s spirit. But as his sanity begins to slip, Winter confides in her friend Rafa, a computer wizard, who tells her he’s found information about using fractal technology to treat false memories—nothing paranormal about it, leaving Winter confused and without hope. Will she lose her mother forever?

Suspecting her dad is hiding a deep secret, Winter runs Fractalistic behind his back, unveiling a sea of computer-generated imagery swirling on the screen. Her mother appears to her…begging for help! But is this all just Winter’s imagination?

Fractalistic may enable Winter to communicate with her deceased mother, but it might also unleash more mysterious memories buried within Winter’s mind. To figure it all out, Winter must hack into her father’s system to uncover a horrifying truth…or remain in the dark forever

INTRIGUED YET?????

Well, here is what I thought of this masterpiece!

Sometimes you come across a book, and after reading it, you get a hint at why the author chose that title. You see the evidence of that simple phrase or single word running throughout the story. In the case of FRACTILISTIC that title was the story. Winter is a girl whose pain and struggle could be viewed as fractured. And although the title references the technology or science her father uses to help her heal after her mother’s death, it also represents Winter. I loved connected with her. Going on this journey as she navigates a very vividly written small Mexican town and falls in love and gains a friend. Her hesitation at friendship, at first, seemed strange. But the more I got to know Winter, the better I understood. She was…fractured. And people who have gone through this sort of pain will have a hard time connecting.

Gerardo is masterful at is prose and the depth in which he created his characters (or cast. I always refer to them as cast) Rafi and Julia and their desire to stand by Winter was so damn touching. At times, I found myself wiping a stray tear. And Rafi, oh, such a sweet love story there. TRUST ME!

Her father, on the other hand, made me angry and sad, and frustrated. I wanted to scream so many times at him. Yet, I also understand his frustration and pain. Losing is wife and in a way losing his daughter as well. The lengths he went through to try and help Winter were admirable.

The mystery had me believing one thing and I was somewhat surprised there weren’t any (spoiler) this is a mark of a true story genius!

So, dear reader, I can’t recommend this book enough. Be prepared to be captivated and have her heart put in a vise.

Quinsey Wolfe’s Glass Vault Is Taking Over!!

That’s right! My friend and fellow author, Candace Robinson, is re-introducing her book to the world and that book has TAKEN OVER! Sales, giveaways, and playlists…OH MY!

Of course, I’ve already read this awesome book and posted a review. Do you want to read it? Well, since I’m in a sharing mood…

The whimsical almost fairytale like tone of the book paints a deceiving portrait of lighthearted fun and romance with a little mystery thrown in. Even the cover makes you smile and want to curl up with your favorite throw and a cup of tea. But please, don’t be fooled. I was, as I smiled at Maisie’s obsession with eye patches, tried to figure out which team I was going to be on, Neven’s or August. Yes, I knew they were bound to venture into a creepy place called, Quinsey Wolfe’s Glass Vault, but somehow, I foolishly believed everything was going to be okay. I WAS DEAD WRONG!!! My smile quickly evaporated, illusion shattered, when one of the first characters I became invested in went missing. My heart skipped a beat when the next person went missing. And I started staring at the shadows in my room, the ones that weren’t there a few minutes ago, as I walked the halls of Quinsey Wolfe’s Glass Vault with Perrie and August. Now, I’m pacing the floor waiting not so patiently for October 23, 2018 for Bride of Glass. Hey, Tim Burton, I’ve found your next movie project!

Funny thing, Tim Burton STILL hasn’t contacted me!!!!

In case you’re still not convinced you should get this book. Here is a little teaser for your reading pleasure.

Prologue

Overwhelmed with boredom, Vale stared down at his fingernails. He could only spend so much time tormenting those he encountered in the afterlife. After making them as miserable as possible, he found himself needing to search for new prey.

The fire beside him flickered and gave off a comforting heat. To Vale it felt like a warm blanket against his cool skin. He hummed a melody to himself as the fire crackled, accompanied by a chorus of screams that continued to grow more intensely.

Vale should have felt something, yet he was incapable of compassion. It made his torture of others necessary, and with no complete spectrum of true emotion, their agony provided him with a sick sort of pleasure. It was the only real feeling he had ever truly known.

He picked at his nails a little longer with a sharp instrument until they were back to their pristine condition. The one thing he couldn’t tolerate was the filth and grime that built up under his fingernails. One might consider this an oddity. After all, his experiments usually ended up being the cause of his distress.

Studying his fingernails one more time, Vale set the tool down next to a row full of other torturous devices—giving him another thrill. When so many of his experiments resulted in such beautiful messes, he could forgive himself the lapse in hygiene.

Rows of cages filled with useless souls lined the walls of his domain. They would help him to crush the mortal lives he needed to flood the earth. After the time he had spent in his dark place, he grew tired of tormenting the ones who “deserved” it—he wanted them all.

The time had finally come to bring down humanity—he wished it could be as simple as a snap of his fingers. Vale didn’t like to do things the easy way, though. No, he liked to do things the way that brought him the most pleasure. This time he was going to be known as Quinsey Wolfe. This time he would make sure the world ended in flames while orchestrating its demise and rebirth. There must be a space between his underworld and the human world, where the new souls could become immortal with true power. It would take time, but he would build this place. Then, he could discover the ones he truly wanted. Hearts would surrender, souls would suffer, and at the end of it all—he would watch it burn. From the ashes of its undoing, Vale would recreate it all in his image.

DOESN’T THAT INTRIGUE YOU??????

She’s a big fantasy geek and one day hopes to read all the books on her bookshelves. Shay loves anime, cartoons, manga, and fosters birds for a local rescue. Although she doesn’t trust him, getting in trouble with Poppa is not on her agenda. She buys Josh’s silence with a binding promise of friendship.

Then, a deadly fae called a Cait Sidhe comes to the forest looking for a silver torc of great power. Airily’s Poppa rallies the local fae against the evil beast but gets kidnapped.

Airily and Josh must race against time to save Poppa and rid the woods of the ferocious killer. Between Airily’s knowledge of local fairfolk and Josh’s ingenuity, they just might have a chance.

Cover Reveal–The Language of Divorce

I am extremely happy to show you the cover of, THE LANGUAGE OF DIVORCE, by the first author I signed at Filles Vertes Publishing, Leanne Treese. It was a great pleasure working on this title with Leanne and I truly can not wait till the book is available to EVERYONE.

So, without further gushing on my part, I give you…

ISN’T THAT AN AWESOME COVER?!?

Fun facts about Leanne!

She lives in New Jersey with her husband of twenty-five years and their three wonderful children. When Leanne is not cheering her children on in their activities, she can be found running, watching Philadelphia 76ers basketball, and spoiling her two beloved dogs. Favorite locations include the Jersey shore, Martha’s Vineyard, and any place that sells books or coffee, preferably both! A passionate student, Leanne’s dream life would include going back to college and majoring in everything.

Leanne is a graduate of Lafayette College and The Dickinson School of Law. A former attorney, Leanne is now lucky enough to write full-time!

AND, OF COURSE I’M GOING TO TELL YOU ABOUT THE BOOK!!!!

Hannah and Will Abbott define the American dream: two kids, a home in the suburbs, and a seemingly perfect marriage. But discontent lurks beneath the surface of their outwardly happy lives. Each Will and Hannah suspect the other of infidelity. When they independently consult divorce attorneys, the conflict escalates and Hannah flees with the children against a court order. Hannah’s snap decision starts a social media firestorm and, suddenly, the Abbott divorce is big news.

With family stress and legal fees rising, Will and Hannah accept an invitation to appear on a reality television show for divorcing couples. During filming on the beautiful island of St. John, the Abbotts must decide once and for all: can their love survive their past?

The story unfolds through viewpoint of four characters: Will, the affable boy-next-door everyone loves; Hannah, the fastidious wife still in love with her husband; David, the tough-talking attorney with a heart of gold; and Rachel, the insecure novice lawyer infatuated with the Abbotts. Written with both humor and heart, The Language of Divorce is a captivating debut which will stay in readers’ hearts long after the final page.

SO, stay tuned for more tidbits about this wonderful book, and until we talk with each other again….ENJOY THAT AWESOME COVER!!!

Lineage–available for Preorder!!!

OMG!! YES!! My book is available for Pre-Order and I am over the moon. This has been a LOOOONNNNNGGGG time coming. So many days of uncertainty and frustration and self -doubt. Now, I get to share my words with the world.

Yes, there is a measure of fear involved with putting my words out there. Cause, I’m going to be honest, my book is not for those with delicate sensibilities. There is plenty of sex, cursing, blood, and um…maybe I should write a PG version… Nah…

So, when you pick up this beautiful gem of mine, be warned!!! LOL!

Now, I’m off to finish book two. So….more blood, sex, cursing…

October 1, 2018

I get to work from home!

EXCELLENT! You’ve decided to stay for tea.

My first ever blog post. Oh, the pressure………

So many expectations. Writing and rewriting. And don’t get me started on the inventive curse words that have just flown out of my mouth!

Before I forget, here is your tea.

I’ve spent the majority of my working career stuck in traffic. Yes, sitting in a line of commuters wondering why I couldn’t get paid for my time. Before I was laid off, I’d spend a total of four hours a day commuting to and from work. It didn’t help my sanity.

Getting laid off should have been a shock. I should have felt something akin to loss or disappointment. Fear, maybe? But no, all I felt was a great sense of relief. And not because of my wasting time sitting in traffic.

You see, I’ve always wanted to stay home and write. I dreamed about the day when I could just wake up in the morning and sit down at my computer and write. But the need for a steady income always got in the way. Things like, a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and food in my belly were important. A starving artist I was not!

Don’t get me wrong, I still wrote. But I could never spend the time I wanted to on it. And usually by the time I got home in the evening, I was mentally drained.

After my husband reassured me we’d be okay financially. I tell you, I rejoiced!

But now, I was faced with a new challenge; working from home and being productive. It sounds easy when you say it. Having come from a structured work environment where my schedule was given to me, I now had to make my own schedule and hold myself accountable for following it. I went out and immediately stocked up on pens, (I didn’t need them), notebooks, (didn’t need those either) and set up my desk. I was all set! Or, so I thought.

NOT!!!

Any excuse I could come up with, I used. I’ll start work after this show goes off. Never happened. I’ll start working after my nap. Yeah, right. My creative juices will start flowing once I finish reading this book. No, still wrong. I can start fresh in the morning. You can guess how the next day went.

After many days, weeks, months of this, I got depressed. I kept trying to figure out why, now that I had the freedom to do so, I didn’t spend my day writing. Why I refused to follow my own schedule. I didn’t have an answer. Don’t get me wrong, the desire was always there. I just couldn’t focus enough to get anything done. So, I started taking classes with Writers Digest. I figured, the more I learned about writing, the more I’d want to write.

Can you say procrastination?

Yeah, that’s exactly what I was doing. Using an excuse to not do what I really needed and wanted to do. I was staying home for a reason. And so far, I was failing. I didn’t like that one bit. Yet, there was a silver lining in all of this.

The thing is, I had finished the first draft of my novel. I just needed to polish it. Along came Writer’s Bootcamp. It was, of course, yet another distraction. Or, maybe not. I knew my novel needed work and now I was going to get the opportunity to get some feedback! Well, I did get that feedback but I also got something that was much more valuable.

MY WRITING TRIBE.

One of the few things I missed about work were the relationships I’d built and the people I came to enjoy spending time with. And once I found my tribe of three (Brandy, Jena, and Nick) I became productive and excited and passionate once again. While my husband paved the way for me and supported me, I still needed to find my kindred spirits. And as corny as it sounds, they completed me.
