Meet Fr. John Grieco
who was just ordained on Saturday.
It's funny. Simcha Fisher was asking for impressions of Opus Dei the other day. I didn't have time to get involved in that discussion but I gotta say that, with the exception of one guy who sort of fit the "oddly secretive" caricature of OD, I've met nothing but good people there. Indeed, some of my closest friends, as well as Catholics whom I highly admire as bright, charitable, witty and orthodox are members. The scorn that's heaped on them by their enemies has always mystified me. This priest, like most OD folk I've met, looks and sounds to me like the real deal. God bless your work in the Vineyard, padre!

It will be interesting to see...
...if these crooks are ever caught and punished. I doubt it, since quite a number of these crooks have cushy positions inside the government.
I do increasingly suspect that, should the economy *really* go south, people like this, both in the private sector and in our Ruling classes, will fleece us for all they can and then leave the ship to sink. I have no confidence--none--that our supposed public servants have the slightest interest in the common good.

Frank Weathers...
makes me sigh with envy as he talks about going to Provence as a Catholic.
Ah me! How I wish I could get me some of that easy-going warm Mediterranean Catholic mojo.

How Can You Not Love a Guy Like This?
Meet Det. Brendan Finn, salt of the earth Irish Catholic cop. When he isn't stopping Al-Quaida lunatics from blowing up the Brooklyn Bridge, he's adopting kids from the Ukraine because Jesus told him to and he obeys Jesus.
God love ya, man!

Today, my minions, I bid you contemplate this classic tune from the score to the Neverhood, by the immortal Terry Scott Taylor of Daniel Amos fame:
If you aren't familiar with the Neverhood, you aren't familiar with the greatest computer game of all time, I command that you become familiar or I will sentence you to my Pits of Despair with only a Wii for company.
That is all!

Our daughter, Katalina, has been missing since May 9, 2011. She was in a program in Richmond, Virginia. She broke their rules, and when it was discovered was dropped off at the Richmond Greyhound Station with $1.58 in her pocket and a voucher for a bus ticket to Charlottesville, VA--the station closest to home. She had no cell phone. It was 7:30 at night. If anybody knows anything, please help. If not, please pray.
The program counselor left a message on our phone at about 7 to call her. We didn't get home from work/meetings until after 8:30 PM. By the time we were able to send someone to the station for us (we live 3+ hours away), Katalina was gone. Surveillance tapes show she did board the bus for Charlottesville, but no one was there to meet her.
The Charlottesville Police Department is doing everything it can to find her.
Any help you can provide through prayer or the sharing of this page would be truly appreciated.
If you see her, please tell her that her family loves her, is worried and just wants to know she is all right. Please tell her to call home.
Thank you very much,
Sam and Lisa Mikitarian

Katalina has short brown hair and brown eyes. She's 5'5" tall and weighs 135 lbs. She wears glasses. She was last seen wearing jeans, a brown blouse and flats.
Father, bring this girl home safe and sound through Christ our Lord. Mother Mary and Guardian Angel, pray for her!

Prayer Request
A reader writes:
I'd like to ask you and your readers for prayers once more. A 19-year-old from my parish was struck by a car and killed last night. He was a Eucharistic minister and a former alter server, and he went to school with my brother. His family is obviously devastated. Prayers for his eternal rest, as well as for the comfort, strength, and faith of his family, are much needed and appreciated. Thank you.Father, hear our prayer for the repose of that young man's soul, for mercy for the driver, and for the consolation of his family through Christ our Lord. Mother Mary, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

Where I'll be tonight
May 12 7:00 PM. Blessed Sacrament parish "Exploring Catholic Belief" Group, Seattle, WA. Topic: Private Revelations and Apparitions
And now, I'm outta here. I'm trying to get a bunch of stuff done because in two short weeks we are off to the annual festivities at our Hidden Island Redoubt, where Sheas and somewhere around 40 friends and relatives give ourselves up to jollification for days on end. That means getting stuff filed ahead of time so I don't have to think about it when I get back.
So: you kids don't put no beans up your noses. I'll be back Monday!
