Opposite evils

The NY Times is having fun profiling various hatchlings in the class of Cultured Despisers who are about to have their budding contempt for Christianity confirmed by the loonies who are about to have their crazy faith in the Rapture seriously impacted by the No Rapture that is scheduled to take place tomorrow. Indeed, if any of these crazies live in New Zealand, Australia or anywhere else on the other side of the Dateline, the pressure is already on.

So what will all the Rapture crazies do when the Rapture doesn't come? Well, some will realize what fools they've been. But, the human capacity for rationalization being what it is, a certain percentage will go right on believing in Harold "Wrong Before, Wrong Again, Wrong Next Time" Camping, re-jigger their decoder rings, and try again.

Meanwhile, the biggest tragedy will be that some of their victims while conclude that Christ is a fraud like Harold Camping. May God forgive the people who led them to that conclusion and may He open their hearts to the true gospel.

The Dance of the Dueling Elephants

"When elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers," says an old Hindu proverb. You might say the same of when they dance.

Currently, big business and big government are in a weird state of sexual tension in which they sometimes fight and sometimes engage in a sort of passionate lovemaking--like two tyrannosaurs who can't decide whether to mate or eat each other.

Exhibit A: Thanks For The Bailout Suckers; GM to invest extra $540 million in Mexico to build motors

Of course, it's not the taxpayers who are suckers. Suckers give of their own free will. We are compelled to give at gunpoint: to gigantic corporations--by the state.

But giant corporations need it. How else would CEO pay have risen 11% in 2010 if not by extracting corporate welfare from your pocket at gunpoint?

The best part is that Left wing talking heads have their base convinced that the Dems and our God King aren't complete in bed with Big Business while right wing talking heads have their base convinced that the people who are fattening themselves on corporate welfare believe in free competition and care about the little guy.

I hear you, man

A reader writes:
Seattle may have more coffee shops and anarchists than Cincinnati, Ohio, but we have more rain! That's right. Eight more inches than you! We are 139 days into 2011 and Cincinnati has had a measly 48 "dry" days. And even though we may have fewer coffee shops, we have Cincinnati Chili – which is like a meatier version of Seattle coffee poured over some luke-warm spaghetti and topped with a mound of finely shredded cheddar cheese. Combine that with fewer anarchists, and we are a much more "Jolly" tolerant city than your precious Seattle. I just wanted to hit you with that, now I must go. All of the neighborhood animals are lining up two-by-two next to my minivan.
I empathize. Today is the first time in six months it's reached 70. I'm ready for summer--or even spring! Global warming can't come fast enough to suit me.

The Wise Elders of San Francisco Contemplate a New Message

Heute San Francisco! Morgen die Welt! Amerika Judenrein!

One of the little paradoxes of living in a society that believes in religious liberty is that Christians (who should fight every suggestion that we are saved by keeping the ceremonial law of Moses) should also fight like hell against the encroachments of aggressive secularists who want to tell Jews they can no longer circumcise their children.

First, they came for Jews, and I said nothing, because I was not a Jew....

Prayer Request

A reader writes:
My wife seems to have 1 of a few options in response to taking epilepsy medication.

She can take medication that causes her to be depressed or she can take medication that makes her nauseous and gives her insomnia.
It's not fun to eat nothing but Jell-O, Ginger Ale and Crackers. But at least she's not having seizures, but is not doing much of anything else as well. Please pray that her medication gets regulated so that she can lead a more normal life and she can do more than feel tired, watch Netflix and play Solitaire all day. Maybe God will decide to take away her epilepsy altogether. There must be some Blesseds who need another miracle to achieve Sainthood.

Also I have a friend who is trying to stay off drugs and lead a more normal life. He needs spiritual healing of mind, body and soul.
Father, hear our prayer for this woman's complete healing from epilepsy through your Son Jesus Christ. Mother Mary and St. Luke, pray for her.
