Paula is a literary & transgressive fiction writer from Germany. She completed her master's degree in Creative and Life Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London. "Heart Like A Hole" is her first book of fiction, inspired by Bret Easton Ellis and Albert Camus.

She currently lives in Canada, working on her second novel–a semi-autobiographical piece inspired by her time in Germany and England.

I chose to write about a ‘blood-stained plaster,’ which ultimately created Dr. Ellen Parker.
The point of that writing exercise was to create a connection between the character and the object. So I wrote about an encounter between a doctor and her patient but focused on the doctor’s obsession with blood analyses. Apparently, according to my teacher, the story was funny and should be developed into something bigger. If he hadn’t given me an A for that piece, I probably wouldn’t have embarked on that novel. That story is now Chapter Ten in the book.(less)
