Murder Was the Case Readers Imbibing Peril Challenge

1995 independent film by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.

I love Snoop Dogg as an actor. He basically plays himself in different situations, but there's an honesty to his delivery that makes it work beautifully.

Cicero James, Miracle Worker Book Blitz #rabtbooktours

Urban Fantasy, Dark Fantasy, New Adult / Adult Fantasy

Date Published: October 28, 2024

My name is Cicero James, and I died last Thursday.

I know how it sounds, and the rest of what I have to tell you is just going to make it worse. But it's true. I died, and I came back. And the rest of it—why it happened, what it means, and most importantly what we’re going to have to do about it—is what I need you to hear.

I’m going to start at the beginning, and I’m going to tell all of this as faithfully as possible. I’m going to try to bring you along for the ride. It’s all coming out in a rush, so if I don’t tell it quite right, or if I muff a word or use bad grammar or something, try not to hold it against me.

And if I don’t manage to convince you… I understand. No harm, no foul, no hard feelings. This is all insane to anyone who hasn't lived it.

But if you're in, then you’re in, and here we go.

About the Author

Hal Emerson is the author of ten books, including the award-winning Exile Trilogy, beginning with The Prince of Ravens. He is a graduate of UCLA, where he studied Shakespeare, Chekhov, and the Greek and Roman Classics. He also has an MBA from UC Berkeley (Cal).

Some of his favorite books and series include East of Eden, The Brothers Karamazov, The Lord of the Rings, and The Wheel of Time. As a young reader he was particularly inspired by The Chronicles of Prydain, and he is an avid Harry Potter fan.

He still believes in the Oxford comma, and he has seen every Robin Williams movie.

But behind the clinic’s shining facade lies a disturbing secret. When another doctor mentions a peculiarity in the facility’s methods, Joyce investigates. What she discovers is worse than she could have imagined. Now, she must decide whether to confront the institute’s renowned director about his unscrupulous deeds or compromise her ethics by turning a blind eye. She knows staying silent could destroy people’s lives, but speaking out could destroy hers.

As the line between healing and harm blurs, Joyce must decide how far she’s willing to go to protect her patients, her integrity, and the future she still hopes to build.

About the Author

M.J. Kuhar worked in private practice as an OB-GYN for over a decade before shifting to a career in higher education, first as an assistant professor, then as a college dean, and finally as a vice president.

Her dedication to helping patients and students left her little time to write, but the idea for a novel stuck with her. Inspired by deeply moving stories of couples undergoing IVF, she developed her first novel, In Vitro.

Now retired, M.J. lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and a spicy cat named Simon. She volunteers at a local elementary school, where she reads with kindergarteners to foster a love of books. Tai chi, crafting, and wine tasting are a few of her favorite hobbies.

Readers Imbibing Peril Challenge 2025: Saving Wendy

https://tubitv.com/movies/100034547/t...

I worked with elderly patients, many of whom had dementia, for approximately 25 years total.

Sadly, I witnessed both of my parents descend into dementia. My father had multiple transient ischemic attacks (small strokes) before having a major hemorrhagic cerebrovascular incident (large stroke).

My brother speculates that my father may have had frontotemporal dementia, given his behavior patterns.

My mother died three days after having a massive CVA in the left occipital lobe. I suspect she had Lewy body dementia.

There are certain behaviors one sees in patients with dementia. If Wendy had dementia, she would be repeating herself, asking questions she'd already asked, perhaps even forgetting who she was talking to. She clearly doesn't have aphasia. I would surmise that any seeming aphasia or appearance of dementia was due to alcohol addiction, from which she seems to have recovered successfully.

Some of the things Wendy said on her show were shocking and offensive. However, this does not mean she deserves to be locked up and unable to function autonomously.

Even if Wendy did have dementia, people with dementia do better when they are given activities to participate in, not being forced to remain locked in a room.

Wendy is seven months older than I am. She is correct that people our age benefit from exercise to help us maintain our endurance and remain as strong and flexible as possible.

Wendy simply does not present like a person suffering from dementia. Her conversation is too coherent. This situation smells smelly.

Insecure Writers Support Group 1 October 2025

The image was generated by Pixlr. I'm not proud, but I am tired.

October 1 question - What is the most favorite thing you have written, published or not? And why?

I love my Dreamlands stories more than anything else I write. Nobody else gives a flying rat's ass about them and probably never will. I love them for the Found Family aspect. A quartet of complete oddballs confronts cosmic (and other) horrors as well as their own troubled pasts with the intent of saving the Universe from being drawn into a Horrible Black Void.

I hardly ever have time to work on these stories, or anything else, really.

This has been a year of death and medical appointments.

For an idea of how I feel about all the stories inside me that will either never be told or will be buried by time and dust, watch the scene in this video where David Bowie slumps over, exhausted by attempting to write out his ideas before it's too late (approximately 3:45).

Book Blurb:

Relationships bite!

Jane Dela Cruz's life is anything but normal. By day, she's your average honor student, the girl next door who's dating the guy on the football team. By night, she hunts vampires with her family. She hates what she's been called to do, the gifts she inherited from her family bloodline. At the same time, she craves revenge and closure for past emotional scars.
Andy Santiago is the new kid in the swanky suburb of Sugar Land, Texas. Haunted by nightmares of red eyes and fangs, he hunts down vampires and attracts his share of trouble along the way. He keeps his life of vampire hunting a secret from his mother and finds himself in hot water when he finds out his new girlfriend is a fangirl for romantic vampires, which only exist in fiction.

When Jane's boyfriend and Andy's girlfriend get taken by the local vampire court and turned into vampires, they have to team up and figure out how to take down their exes. What they don't realize is that they will unravel a darker conspiracy that will change their lives forever.

Rating: Four out of Five Stars

“Strength in numbers. Watchmy back!”

The hunt is dangerous, but they’ll do ittogether.

This story should be on your shelf if you enjoyYA urban fantasy with a strong, capable female lead,
asupportive found-family vibe, and a touch of romance and horror. Itis a page-turner with a fun premise: a vampire watch party thatbecomes a real hunt ina college town with a secret vampire scene.

Janeis by no means a Mary Sue. She is a practical, competent, butflawed heroine with quirky allies (Susi, Mrs. Dela Cruz). She screwsup, learns from her mistakes, and her actions have realconsequences.

Fans of action sequences must not miss thefight scenes in chapters 2 and 4 and during the reveal inthe
bookstore (Ch. 5).The story has plenty of amusingmoments. I laughed at lines like “You should be more worried aboutyour game. That guy you just hit on is gone.”

Therelationships are balanced. Jane and her mom are a solid team. Andyand Susi’s relationship is based on collaborative dynamics ratherthan toxic romance. Andy and Susi are good foils: Andy isearnest, awkwardly brave, and Susi is sharp and competent. Mrs.Dela Cruz is a delight as the competent parent/mentor. Gabby is sweetand energetic and Lenore adds her own special charm. TheVocati/fairy elements and the mom-as-sidekick subplot worknicely too.

The character voices are mostlydistinct, though Andy and Jane’s banter can blur at times. Overallthe
stakes feel personal and immediate.

The centralconflict is clear: a hunt to find and neutralize the Lieutenant. Theplot progression is logical
and gives a sense of escalation. Thefamily/dojo/fairy twist layers keep thingsinteresting.

Worldbuilding is a strong point: Vocatiheritage, fairies with real power, and family-run vampirehunting. Settings are vivid: the watch party, the dojo, andthe bookstore cafe allfeel realistic.

The story smoothly blends snarky YA humorwith tense action and a dash of horror. Some scenes
incorporateboth sit-com coziness and brutal monster fights. The overarching tonefor YA urban fantasy is on target. Some transitions (end ofwatch party to outside fight) jump fast. Slowing them down alittle could provide clarity asto who moves where anddoes what.

Favorite moments:

Jane's mom showingup with escrima sticks.

The dojo introduction and thekamiza shrine moment provides great atmosphere.

The revealthat there are other hunters (Susi & family) broadened the worldin a satisfying way.

Connor’s jealousy occasionally readas possessive rather than protective or simply insecure. Thisrisks

sliding into toxic relationshipdynamics.

Thestory’s conclusion is satisfying, although I did have a few lingering questions.

Whatare the limits of daylight/indoor vampire activity?

Whatis the Lieutenant’s background?

Why target indaylight areas (theater, mall)?

In the end, I had areally good time and want to see where the Lieutenant subplotleads.

Teenage me would have been absolutely obsessed withthis story.
