Roost Recommendations Change-Ups + Naughty Netherworld News
Image by Pexels from PixabayHello Roosties! Yes, I've changed the start date on the weekly Roost Recommendations once again. I tend to do my Weekend Writing Warriors visits on Monday, or, you know, sometimes on Tuesday. So, Weekend Writing Warriors was always getting the shaft.
I decided that it makes more sense to start the week with Weekend Writing Warriors on Monday. MFRW Steam happens on the second Tuesday of each month, which happens to be this Tuesday, so I will probably post their links on Wednesday.
MFRW Book Hooks happens every Wednesday. This week, I will probably post participant links on Thursday.
I will post participant links from Rainbow Snippets on Saturday night or Sunday morning and participant links from Snippet Sunday on Sunday night or Monday morning. There is a lot of crossover between Weekend Writing Warriors participants and Snippet Sunday participants, so I think that this will end up being a fairer way of doing things.
I have to go to a podiatry appointment before I can continue doing my thing here. Waah! I don't want to! I live in the middle of nowhere, so I have to drive for two hours to get to the office, and my car doesn't have working AC.
At least it's a bit overcast today, so not completely hot and shitty, although at this time of year, there's always a good chance of a pissy front moving in.

“Are you mad, you fool?” Peregrine demanded. “Never would I wish to be free of Finn’s spell. If ever you tasted the briny sweetness of his delicious mouth, you would gladly become his slaves.”
“Oh, for fuck’s sake, Perry, you sound like a freshclone infatuated with his controller or a rich-bitch exec swooning over his favorite pleasure slave,” Iker scolded. “Before you go handing control of your life over to that alkaline abomination, why don’t you let these first-class friars massage your body and mind and see if they can’t alleviate his allure? Come on, Buddy, if not for yourself, then do it for me. You can’t give in without a fight.”
“Ike, you’re naked,” Peregrine observed.
“You bet your sweet ass I am. I was about to get some good sexual healing at the hands of Brother Imre here when I was rudely interrupted by your fawning over Finn. C’mon, Perry, put yourself in the capable hands of the monks. Say that you’ll at least give it a try.”
“All right, Ike, I’ll do it for you,” Peregrine agreed, smiling sedately.
Peregrine wanted to comply with his friend’s request, but the moment that the monks freed him from his restraints he attempted to bolt. It took the combined efforts of six strong brothers to restrain him and lead him to a grotto beneath the monastery.
“He will require our most powerful efforts to free him from this curse,” the high priest declared. “Fortunately, or unfortunately, we have no previous experience combating the compelling powers of a sea satyr. We believed their kind to be extinct, so we only studied them briefly as a curiosity.”
“They may have been extinct, but General Bissette went and lifted the lid on the Pandora’s box of history,” Iker observed. “Since I’m unlikely to be getting laid, I may as well get dressed.”

Insecure Writers Support Group 2 June 2021: How Long Do I Ferment My Stories?

The answer is, it depends. The Cloned Heat series of m/m erotic sci-fi shorts get written, edited, and published in the space of a month unless Amazon decides to dick me around, which is always a distinct and unsavory possibility.
You can check out the Cloned Heat series here if you like short stories that are dude-intensive, heavy on the heat, and a little bit tongue in cheek. These stories are always free to read with Kindle Unlimited or $0.99 apiece to purchase.

A timeless classic. That one never gets old!I self-publish most of my own work, but I occasionally submit pieces for rejection in other places. One such piece was the recently published (as in just published yesterday) Dark Matters, which is the first book in the Satellite Blues series.
Dark Matters was rejected for inclusion in the IWSG Dark Matters anthology, which I expected it to be because I have a track record of being an acquired taste that the IWSG team has not acquired. It was fermenting in its folder since September of 2020. I broke it out yesterday, made a few minor alterations, and published the sucker.

On the other hand, I am still working on formatting my third poetry volume, December Mood, because FML. I have not even started editing The Wizard's Key, which is the second book in the Tales from the Dreamlands series. The first draft was finished on April 15 of this year.
So, as you can see, other than the monthly erotica serial, I don't have a set amount of time that I leave between completing and editing my work. I feel like I'm really behind schedule with most of my editing projects.

Charity Sunday: Help with Tara's Medical Costs

Tara is my 12-year-old cat. She has a condition called mast cell disease that causes tumors to form. The disease is usually confined to the skin and underlying tissue but can spread to the internal organs. Tara's internal organs are clear at this time.
She currently looks like a juvenile Skeksis because the surgical team at CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital had to shave her head to remove two tumors plus both mandibular lymph nodes. The tumors and right mandibular lymph node were relatively clear of metastatic material. Unfortunately, the left mandibular lymph node contained a large amount of metastatic material and so the veterinary team is recommending a round of chemotherapy. They feel that her prognosis for a normal lifespan is good if she has chemotherapy.
As you can imagine, this procedure will be costly. My son's and my savings have been wiped out by the cost of testing and surgery for Tara (around $2000 total) plus major repairs made to the household's only vehicle in April to the tune of $3500.
Currently, our household's only income is my disability payment of $1340 per month. This covers monthly bills and not much else. My son is high-functioning autistic and not able to work a conventional job. He receives no income.
