The real, untold, and unvarnished story of life inside the legendary Playboy Mansion—and the man who holds the key—from the woman who was Hef’s #1 girlfriend and star of The Girls Next Door.
A spontaneous decision at age twenty-one transformed small-town Oregon girl Holly Sue Cullen into Holly Madison, Hugh Hefner’s #1 girlfriend. But like Alice in Wonderland after she plunged down the rabbit hole, what seemed like a fairytale life inside the Playboy Mansion—including A-list celebrity parties and her own #1-rated television show—quickly devolved into an oppressive routine of strict rules, manipulation, and battles with ambitious, backstabbing bunnies. Losing her identity, her sense of self-worth, and her hope for the future, Holly found herself sitting alone in a bathtub contemplating suicide.
But instead of ending her life, Holly chose to take charge of it.
In this shockingly candid and surprisingly moving memoir, this thoughtful and introspective woman opens up about life inside the Mansion, the drugs, the sex and the infamous parties, as well as what her relationships with her Girls Next Door co-stars, Bridget and Kendra were really like. Holly talks candidly about a subsequent abusive relationship, her own successful television series, and the hard work of healing, including her turn on Dancing with the Stars. A cautionary tale and a celebration of personal empowerment, Down the Rabbit Hole reminds us of the importance of fighting for our dreams—and finding the life we deserve.

The odds are against them, but they refuse to allow anything to get in their way.
Blurb
Victor Antonov-Daray is a lucky man. Thanks to his impetuous decision to apply for a job he didn’t qualify for, his life changed forever. In the decades since, Victor has gained experience, poise, and a found family. The Darays anchor his world.
Every twelve months, new fallen knights are resurrected. Keegan Hayes considers himself fortunate to be among them. As a recruit, he is eager to train and study. Shortly after classes begin, Keegan discovers there is a shifter sentinel struggling to adjust to his resurrection. Keegan insists on meeting him.
No sentinel likes to stick out, but Phillip Osdraconis has no choice. His dragon will not allow him to rest. It takes sorcery to force the beast into submission. His precarious start means he is not ready for the courses necessary to prepare him for his future duties.
Phillip refuses to accept his fate idly. He is determined to forge a bond with his dragon, read his textbooks, and spar with his brethren. To his surprise, visitors arrive at his dorm door to greet him. One of them is his mate, Keegan.
Although they are pleased to be paired, their relationship is awkward. That is, until Phillip and Keegan are invited to dine with the Darays and they meet the missing part of their soul, Victor.
Now the three men must navigate the perilous road of a triple matebond. They do it willingly and with complete determination. Victor, Keegan, and Phillip soon learn everything is easier with love.
The following excerpt contains material suitable only for readers 18+.Excerpt
“Kisses?” Keegan asked.
“Phillip, come and sit between Keegan and me,” Victor ordered. “You’ll kiss him first.”
“Somebody better kiss me soon,” Keegan muttered as he rubbed his hands on his uniform pants.
“Tell Spicy to get a move on,” Victor said. “You guys met first. It makes sense you’d be the ones to kiss first. And we already know I’m more stubborn than an entire household of sentinels, so there’s no use arguing with me.”
“May I kiss you after Keegan?” Phillip asked.
Victor smiled, and there was no hesitation in his eyes. “I’d like that.”
Although Phillip was nervous, his dragon didn’t suffer from any anxiety. He wanted their mates, and nothing was going to stop him. Thankfully, the sentinel side of him was also eager to experiment. Doing what he’d wanted since he’d first met Keegan, Phillip stood and stepped closer to the sofa. Instead of sitting, Phillip carefully reached out and cupped Keegan’s handsome face in his palms.
Keegan’s expression was solemn, but Phillip detected no hesitation in the fallen knight. Slow enough to allow Keegan to pull away if he suddenly changed his mind, Phillip leaned toward him and settled his mouth atop Keegan’s. His mate’s lips trembled apart, and Phillip’s dragon roared loudly. A surge of desire and protectiveness swept through Phillip as he dipped his tongue in to taste Keegan.
Phillip had taken a great deal of time to think about what it would be like to kiss either of the men Fate had granted him, but his imagination was sadly lacking. Although he’d known Keegan was his and Victor’s sunshine, kissing him was as if the heat of the sun burned through him, setting him ablaze.
His cock grew hard, but Phillip ignored it. Someday, he’d have the opportunity to make love to both Keegan and Victor, but it wouldn’t be tonight. Thankfully, it was impossible to feel any disappointment thanks to the lovely mixture of desire, comfort, and affection growing inside him and his dragon for their mates.
Keegan squeezed Phillip’s forearms, and it was a testament to how rattled the fallen knight had made him that he couldn’t recall the moment his other half had touched him. It was tempting to haul Keegan upward and pull their bodies flush together. His dragon growled with approval at the thought. Which was why Phillip pulled away and ended the delightful caress.
“Thank you,” Keegan whispered, his brown eyes full of wonder and yearning. “Go kiss Victor like that and change his life the way you just rocked mine.”
Phillip gave in to the temptation to ruffle his fingers through Keegan’s thick red waves as he enjoyed the scent of sunflowers flooding his system. “Is it I who should thank you. Would you prefer to kiss Victor first?”
“No, I want to watch,” Keegan insisted.
Phillip straightened and glanced at Victor. The cat shifter was watching them with fervent interest written all over his stunning face. To his shock, Keegan slapped Phillip’s ass as he took a step closer to where Victor was perched on the couch.
“Sorry, I’ve wanted to do that forever,” Keegan said.
“Good, me too,” Victor replied. “But don’t apologize for it.”
“He has a habit of apologizing too often,” Phillip remarked.
“We’ll work on it with him,” Victor promised, then he surged upward and grabbed Phillip’s jaw in his hands. He sealed their mouths together, and his tongue met Phillip’s. Unlike Keegan’s sweet sunshine, Victor was like the sparkles he loved—bright and glimmering. But he smoldered too. Their kiss was deep and rich, like the heady smell of a perfectly roasted cup of coffee. Phillip’s dragon adored the aggressive way Victor took charge, but the sentinel side of him was far too competitive to give in easily.
It was a battle. A delicious one Phillip knew he’d crave for eternity.
His erection throbbed, and Phillip nearly touched himself when finally Victor released him.
“Are you guys sure I can’t strip?” Keegan asked.
He whimpered a second later as Victor fused their lips. Phillip watched with slack-jawed interest as his mates kissed. Once again, a roar resonated through the recesses of his mind and soul. This one was the loudest of the night. Astonishingly, Phillip didn’t need to be touching his mates to grow more aroused.
Keegan slumped against the sofa as Victor pulled away.
“I can’t wait to dream about that later,” Keegan murmured.
“Phillip, take your daggers off and sit between Keegan and I so we can cuddle for a bit,” Victor requested.
Happy to oblige, Phillip tore his daggers from his sides and slapped them onto the coffee table. His ass barely hit the cushions, and two men snuggled close. Phillip smiled as his dragon’s sounds of contentment rumbled through him. He wrapped an arm around Keegan and his other around Victor as he drank in the lovely feeling of being near them.

Image by რაზმიკ ბადალიანი from PixabayFebruary 5 question - Is there a story or book you've written you want to/wish you could go back and change?
With most of my work, the problems are minor things I missed during the self-editing process.
The contentious first book I published in 2007 has several heavy-duty issues that make me cringe big time. I won't reveal the title or the pen name I used. It's no longer in print, and overhauling and re-releasing it would take too much effort, so it will remain buried by time and dust.
I took one character from this book, renamed him, and made him the lynchpin of my Tales From the Dreamlands series. You can meet Ketil in his debut novella, Ketil and Yitzy's Adventure in the Xura Dream House.

Prologue
With a groan, Amelia Lawrence pushes away from her desk. The sun is setting outside, and since it’s late August, that means it’s about eight. The semester hasn’t even started yet.
It serves her right for taking this long to finish the syllabus; she should have gotten the jump on planning last weekend or maybe sometime in July. It just didn’t work out. For some reason, trying to make herself work on classes in the summers feels like stuffing a square peg in a round hole, with her brain being the square peg.
That’s the burnout talking, Amy, the analytical goblin living in the back of her mind tells her.
She ignores it.
She’s getting really good at that.
Amelia vaguely recalls a phase when she was better at this. She got more things done in the same amount of time. She planned her lessons, wrote her syllabi, and there was somehow still time left over to do her own research.
The sun sets over the trees at Wordstone Mansion, down by the river. Amelia can barely see it from the science building, but she can feel in an unsettled way how beautiful it would be to be there. There and not in her office, slaving away at things she should have been done with ages ago.
Her husband sent a text. It’s a video of their daughter, Francie, waving goodnight.
Guilt swamps Amelia. Her husband didn’t mean to make her feel this way, she’s sure. He gets it. He got a doctorate, too, before leaving academia for the calmer and more lucrative waters of IT consultancy. She still feels guilty.
They talk about it in oblique references sometimes, she and her husband. The burnout. The thing looming on the edges of her psyche she can barely put a name to because it means failure. The reason she’s already exhausted at the thought of teaching on Monday.
It’s not fair.
Amelia has always loved teaching.
She was one of the few PhD students in her cohort who did.
But here she is, thirty-five years old and not even a tenure-track position to show for it. Instead, she has to hope every year she’ll be somehow, magically, gifted something more permanent than a “good work this year, let’s talk about contract renewal.” Amelia barely dares to ask for a raise in those talks, only an inflation adjustment, because what does she have to offer? Her own research is stagnating, like so many zebrafish she has her students perform experiments on.
Psychology is so glamorous.
Amelia needs to learn to draw proper boundaries. Say no and mean no. Go to class with last year’s slides and no other preparation. Not be available to everyone and anyone. Take time for her own stupid zebrafish experiments. Do some writing, catch up on journals, stop living day to day.
Take her daughter to the Catskills when autumn hits the hillsides in the Hudson Valley and turns it into a glorious riot of color.
Amelia takes a deep breath.
“Just finish up tonight, Amy,” she tells herself. “Get it done and then be happier.”
She sits down at her computer again, willing herself to work through the end of the syllabus.
Immediately, an email notification distracts her. An unread message from Lily Peterson. A vague memory surfaces in Amelia’s brain, something to do with the mess last year after Professor Lombardi died so tragically. Lily was involved. Amy has a dim memory of an all-faculty email about it. She’d been seeing him, and when he died, she vanished from class suddenly and completely. Lily was on the roster of one of Amelia’s classes, a two hundred–level lecture course about…something. Neuroscience, probably. That’s the one everyone drops out of.
Amelia clicks on the email.
Apparently, Lily returned to Lobell, and she wants to know if she can still get credit for the class by retaking the final.
For a heartbeat, Amelia thinks about it. She’d have to dig into the mess of the file structure on her computer and figure out where she left the final exam. Then she’d have to schedule a time, remember how she graded the neuroscience final last fall, oversee one student taking the exam, figure out how to get the extremely late grade through the Registrar’s office, and—
No, her burnout gremlin tells her very firmly. Boundaries. Amelia’s setting boundaries this year. She won’t let it stay this bad.
Dear Lily, she writes. I’m sorry.

Pinedale High—where every shade of love stands a ghost of a chance.
Blurb
Holden and Peyton don't expect much from senior year. He probably won't manage to date any guys. She'll still pine over Juliette, the beautiful and unattainable cheerleader. But when they step between class bullies and Oliver, a super-hot transfer student, their year starts to go off the rails.
As a star football player, Oliver hadn't anticipated trouble. Turns out Pinedale High not only comes with bullies, but with new friends, plus the ghost of a Civil War soldier, and a shy naked guy in the library. Between the living and the dead, senior year is about to get interesting.

Ornery Owl's Review
Rating: Four out of Five Stars
This relatively short book has a lot going on. There are multiple characters with angsty romantic subplots. Two of these characters are ghosts. Only a couple of the other characters can see them. Holden and Juliette try to help their ghost friends, one a nerdy guy who died as a senior in 1989, the other a young Civil War soldier who died in 1865, all while dealing with homophobic and racist bullies and no small amount of personal issues. The story also features Holden's best friend, Peyton, and his epic crush, the seemingly perfect new football star, Oliver.
Each character gets his or her own chapter, narrated in the first-person POV. This technique helps the reader understand the mystery and adds a personal touch to the story. The principal characters are all likable, and the reader (or listener, in my case) hopes they will find a satisfactory solution to their dilemmas.
An incident reporting/checklist narration style bogged down the first couple of chapters. The story tried a bit too hard to establish that these characters were QUEER and PART OF THE RAINBOW COMMUNITY! At that point, I wasn't sure how much I'd enjoy the story. When a character's gender identity and/or sexual orientation forms their entire personality, that makes for a boring narrative. I come to care about characters for who they are, not for how they identify or who they are attracted to.
I will never like the term queer, which for most of my life was a homophobic slur used by bullies such as those who hung around outside gay nightclubs, hoping to beat up a few of the guys and harass their female friends. While reading or listening to modern LGBT fiction, I often groan inwardly (or sometimes outwardly, depending on where I am), "Please, for the love of Dionysus, just say GAY! Or lesbian. Or bisexual."
As a minor quibble, I wasn't sure someone from the Civil War era would use the term dick to refer to a man's privates. I'm not invested enough to research this mystery, and I wouldn't dock a star from a story for using a common but possibly more modern term for said dangly bits. The soldier is probably familiar with the common vernacular if he's hanging around potty-mouthed teenagers.
Once it moved beyond reporting and checklist mode, I liked the story. I cared about the characters and their struggles and enjoyed the surprise twist. I won't even hint at what this is because I want other readers and listeners to enjoy it too.
You will probably like this book if you enjoy paranormal mysteries, angsty crushes, and young, snarky characters.
