My first poll! Help name Vince’s bike.

So, it came to my attention that my MC’s motorcycle (a Harley Fatboy) was a character in itself. I should name it.  Please take some time to help me pick a name. If you have a suggestion please select other and post a comment. This should be fun!

Spring is in the air!

April is in full swing and so is every blooming flower around here.

This year I’m not doing Camp Nano. I did it on a whim last year, and won, but this year I’ve got too much going on.  While I’m having No Soul, No Service being edited I’m hip deep in revisions for Angels Kiss. It’s been fairly clean as this is a later pass, except I found a character mentioned later in the book as if he had been introduced earlier. Needless to say I’m going back and adding this guy in a few places. The joys of revisions.

This pass of revisions is also allowing me to continue to add to my world bible. It’s growing and filled with characters and some descriptions. I need to go and find some images for reference.

Once I’m done with this pass of revisions I’m going to get back to work on book 3 – Barghests Bite!

I’m still on track for release of No Soul in June. I’ve gotten my newsletter up and running and I even have a few subscribers. I put my first short story up as a gift to those who sign up, The Demon Phone. It’s Vince West’s first job after selling his soul. The response has been great from those who read it. Please click on the cover, sign up, and let me know what you think!

If y’all are doing Camp Nano let me know how you are doing!

Moving the Ball Forward

Yeah, I’ve been slacking on updates. I’ve been busy. Work, home life, and writing. Some changes coming to the home, big ones, scary, but exciting.

The real news I want to talk about is that coming soon I’ll have a mailing list, newsletter, and in thanks for signing up you can get a digital copy of my short story The Demon Phone. It’s really the first misadventure of Vince West and his being thrust into the world of the Unseen.  I’ve gotten positive feedback from the few people who have read it and I’m excited to get it out there.

Next up – I’m having No Soul, No Service looked over. Once I get that back and make updates I’ll be pushing forward to get it up on Amazon. My scheduled launch date is no later than June 6th. Time is always slipping away but I figure with a firm deadline I have something to work towards. I’ve actually been good and working instead of playing WoW, SWTOR, or just putzing around on social media.

When the mailing list is live I’ll post a link and send it out.

Well, that’s it for now. Y’all have a great day!

Happy Birthday to me, a Short Story, plus upcoming Newsletter!

I’ve been pretty busy since the last post with work, house life, and writing. Oh yeah, I had a birthday too which was pretty kick ass. I survived another year around the sun. Huzzah!

A suggestion given to me is I need a newsletter. To go with the newsletter I need a short story or something to help entice folks to subscribe and to generate buzz for future works. So that’s what I’ve been working on.

The story doesn’t have a title (yet) but it’s going to be about Vince West’s first job for Lilith. It’s not going to be anything like he was expecting.

The first draft is done and like most first drafts it makes me cringe as I read through it and is suitable to fertilize a vegetable garden. I keep having to remind myself that  all first drafts are like this and it’ll be okay.

I’m liking the story and how it came together pretty quickly. Once I have the first major revision done I’ll be looking for some victims – I mean volunteers – to read through it and get some feedback. Once I’m satisfied with it I’ll get a newsletter up and running.

So many things, so much to do, and so hard keeping focus.

Drop me a line if you have any interest in reading this once it’s done!

Welcome to 2018 – a month late!

Image result for good news everyone

Happy 2018! I’ve been slacking on the blog updates but been busy.  I helped my wife get her first novel published! Learned a lot about the process and hopefully learned from the mistakes for that. We’re happy and proud and excited. It is a real thing.

For those of you paying attention this blog is no longer at its old home. Using some money I made from Ebay I was able to purchase some web hosting and domains. These sites are very much a work in progress, subject to change. But yeah, seanerik.com is a thing. I am also maintaining my wife’s site as well – psunenge.com. Check it out and get her book!

On the writing front I’m blazing forward with a new round of revisions. The good news is the last several revisions I’ve gone through have been minor and I’m pleased with it. I’m going to setup a mailing list soon(ish) and start up another round of beta’s. I still need a cover but I have some ideas on how I want to do that.

My ultimate goal is to get No Soul, No Service released no later than June 1, 2018. If I can get it finalized sooner I will.

That’s about all I have right now. No rest for the weary. Or for me for that matter.

2018 is coming!

So last month was a hectic one. I changed positions at work. Nano happened. For those who are wondering I “won” but I’m not done with the first draft of Werewolves of Wall Street. I hit my 50K words more or less on target but I’m not done. I’m currently working through the last quarter of the project.

I’ve slacked off a bit since Nano is over but I did last year as well. I have one of the journals that Sun gave me that I’m filling up. I have ideas, plots, and general musings in it. I try to put a date around the time I start writing something new so I think it’ll be interesting to open up Vader in the future and see what was going on.

With 2018 so close I have some plans. Once I finish the WWoWS I plan to take the beta feedback from No Souls and go through another rewrite. Then another round of Beta, hopefully more people providing more than one chapter of feedback. Thanks to the one guy who made it through and said he liked it!

Once that round of beta reading is done I’ll be getting it edited, looking for a cover, all that fun stuff. Then the scary part -publishing. I’m still thinking going Kindle publishing, straight E-book with an option to print on demand. That way if anyone actually wants a signed copy I can help them.

I still have several other projects I need to get back to as well. I don’t want to start anything new until I get at least one of these projects closed!

In other news I finally saw The Last Jedi. I really dug the movie, it certainly ranks up as one of my favorites, behind Empire and Rogue One. I totally see why so many people don’t like it or the portrayals for some of the characters but it broke the mold. It went in a fresh bold directions.  Sure, it had some missteps, but I thought it was a solid entry into the franchise. Plus we got to see Carrie Fisher as General Organa for the last time, though she’ll always be Princess Leia to me.

So what are your plans for 2018? What bold goals do you have? Did you love or hate TLJ? Comment below!

NanoWriMo 2017

That’s right folks, it’s that time of the year again. NanoWriMo. For those of you not in the know Nano is National Writing Month. It’s a “competition” where the goal is to write a novel in 30 days. Maybe not a full novel, but at a minimum 50,000 words. That’s right, 50K. That means you have to write 1667 words every day for 30 days to “win.”  What do you win? Well, first off bragging rights. You succeeded in writing a 50,000 word first draft that you’ll then need to revise. There are also some goodies, discounts on software like Scrivener and other services. You don’t technically compete with anyone but yourself, however. Just crank out 50K+ words and you are a winner.

This will be my third year. I failed two years ago but  I did win last year, I also won the summer Nano event. It can be difficult as there are pesky things like real life standing in your way. School, work, family, other obligations. And if you are in the states you have that holiday we’re all thankful for near the end of the month.  It is totally doable and here are some of the tips I use to help get my word count in. Now as I said this is MY style, your mileage may vary,  other restrictions may apply.

1) Write every day. This is a key to not getting, as one participant stated, word debt.  Some days you might get more in than others.

2) Get out in front if it early. By this I mean you don’t have to stop at 1667 words each day. If you can get 2K, or even 3K get on it. That will help alleviate some of the crunch if you find yourself falling behind with family, work, whatever. Build that buffer but don’t slack off once you have it. This will also help you avoid word debt.

3) Schedule time to write. This should be done regardless of Nano or not if you plan to write. Everything else in your life is somewhat scheduled, this should be no different. Find what time is best for you, in the morning before work/class, at night after work/class. Sit down and write. I’d also recommend telling friends and family members. This way that you aren’t necessarily avoiding them, more that you are actually working.

4) Don’t worry about editing (yet). I failed the first time I tried Nano because I got bogged down editing instead of writing. Yes, Nano is probably going to be a hot mess when you are done. Knowing this and accepting it are important. Make yourself notes about what you need to fix or go back and change. The one thing you don’t want to do is lower your word count. Because of this I’ve adopted the phrase “Fix it in post”.

5) Pre-production is a life saver. Film makers don’t just grab random people and start filming. They have to have a script, a story, scout locations, get funding. While not as complex as a film writing can be helped by many of those things. Depending on your style of writing outline your story. If you have a frame work, an idea of where you want the story to go this will help you. Have some basic character bio’s so you know who you will be writing about, basic description, motivations. Do a little world building so you will know what happens in the Shire or Rivendell. Have some set pieces so you know where the action is going to take place.

6) Do what works for you. These are my tips and tricks but they may not be for everyone. Every writer has their own style. They’ll tell you what works for them. It might not work for you, however. I would say to try different things to expand your writing tools but Nano might not be the time for that.

That’s all I’ve got. I find this has helped me in writing, not only for Nano but also for writing in general.  What tips do you have? Comment below or reply via Facebook or Twitter. I’m curious to see what y’all do to win!
