Jason Calder is the thriller writing pseudonym of prominent New Zealand academic, historian, author, playwright, and publisher John Dunmore.

Dunmore was born in France in 1923, lived in Jersey under German occupation during World War Two, and immigrated to New Zealand in 1950. After immigrating to New Zealand he studied for a Doctorate in History, before taking up various academic positions at New Zealand universities.
