Glazed Spiced Apple Smash Roll Ups

I love making apple pies, but I also love to try new recipes. So when I saw the recipe for Shortcut Easy Apple Fritters on the Half-Baked Harvest site, I had to give them a try.
They were good... really good, but because I didn't have some of the ingredients (apple butter, puff pastry, etc.), I had to make substitutions, and my recipe ended up coming out very different from the original. So I'm not actually ...

Girl Dinner: Sardines for Chickens

If you're on Tiktok, you likely have seen one of the latest trends - namely, "girl dinners". The term was coined by Olivia Maher back in May in a video she posted that took off like fire.
And you also may have been watching sardines going viral as the ultimate new girl dinner.

So I decided to do my own take on girl dinners, and share some sardines with my chickens! After all, they're girls too! And sardines are...

Pecan Pumpkin Spice Pancakes

Too soon? Sorry!
But the temperatures are really starting to drop at night and pretty soon the leaves will be turning, so I wanted to share this fun alternative to plain pancakes that uses all the warm fall spices.
I never thought of pancakes as seasonal until I had some pumpkin puree leftover after Thanksgiving one year and was looking for ways to use it.
Instead of giving the pumpkin to the chickens as I normally do, I experim...
Espresso Walnut Biscotti with Chocolate Drizzle

Fuel your mornings with these espresso-laced biscotti packed with crunchy walnuts, mini chips and topped with a semi-sweet and white chocolate drizzle.
Biscotti are uniquely-shaped oblong cookies that originated in Italy and were traditionally flavored with almonds.
Their name is derived from the Latin "biscoctus" which literally means twice-cooked (or baked) and refers to the method of baking...

What Should I Feed my Chickens?

Like all animals, and people too, chickens need a balanced diet to stay healthy and live long lives.
But what exactly does that mean?
I get lots of questions asking "what should I feed my chickens?" There's starter feed, grower feed, and layer feed. There are organic and non-GMO options.
And there is pelleted feed, crumbled feed and whole grain feed. Then there's cracked corn and scratch grains.
It can all get a bit confusing...

All About Cayuga Ducks

Cayuga ducks are very striking with their black feathers that have an iridescent teal, emerald green or purple sheen in the sun. Solid black bills and feet complete their "goth" look.
But the really unique thing about Cayuga ducks is that they lay black or charcoal gray eggs. They are the only domestic duck breed to lay eggs that color. All the other duck breeds lay either white or cream-colored eggs or greenish-b...

Paloma Cocktail Recipe

My husband retired from the Navy in 2015 and we packed up our household belongings, chickens, ducks, our corgi Winston, our German Shepherd Bella, and our cat Linus, and moved to a farm in Maine.
Every summer since, we've chosen a "signature" cocktail and recipe tested as many recipes as we can find, tweaking them until we stumble upon the pe...

10 Steps to Convert a Horse Stall into a Chicken Coop

Getting started with chickens can be expensive, especially these days with prices of everything going up across the board. And when you total the cost of the chicks and their feed, plus coop accessories like feeders and waterers, heat lamps, and a brooder, it can add up fast.
And that's not even talking about the coop and run - which will be by far your largest expense.
But the good news is that if you have a barn wit...
