Born in the mid-fifties in East London, on part of the largest council estate ever built. I was the first pupil from my local secondary modern school to attend university.

I have travelled extensively during my life from America to Tibet. I enjoy going to the theatre, reading and going to the pub. It is, perhaps, no surprise that I am an avid ‘people watcher’ and love to find out about people, their lives, culture and history.

Many of the occurrences recounted and the characters found in my novels are based on real incidents and people I have come across. Although I have allowed myself a wide degree of poetic licence in writing about the main characters, their motivations and the killings that are depicted.

So far this isn’t something that has happened to me.

I tend to stick to a schedule with plenty of breaks and time away from the book - a week or two of doing something else brings fresh eyes to a story. I don’t worry about writing the perfect sentence or a great novel - the first draft is just that and I edit the book at least a dozen times to polish it. I look to improve so hopefully each novel will be better than the last. I do try to put myself in the readers shoes but don’t expect everyone to like what I write.

I imagine that writer’s block comes from fear of failure and I have failed too often in my life not to see it as anything other than a positive. So jump in and fail - the world really won’t end if you do.(less)
John Mead It occupies my mind 24/7, it gives me a reason to explore things beyound my everday life, to paint with words: it’s fun.

Looking for Inspiration: Themes, Plots and Characters.

I have no doubt there are as many ways to obtain inspiration, the spark that will give life to a new book, as there are authors. There are those who will undertake meticulous research: into demographics and trends in book sales, then, having gleaned a topic from this, further research to develop a plot and characters that will, hopefully, bring about a best seller. And then there are those who jus Read more of this blog post »

A brilliant story

Excellent writing, interesting characters and an unusual plot. Maigret at his best, unraveling the psychologically of a crime. Would highly recommend.

Another great read from Taylor

A real page turner from start to finish. Even if you guess the ending before our hero there is so much of interest in the historical detail that it retains your interest. Would highly recommend
