Project Update #3: Sagittarius 🌈

I’m just counting down the days until August 18th when my M/M romance, Sagittarius, finally goes live!

It has some of my favorite tropes…

It tells the story of how Nico and Eric got together (who you might remember from Mr. Hollywood’s Secret). In this story, Nico is a depressed, washed-up author who wants nothing more than to throw in the towel.

Until he meets Eric, the enigmatic actor who, despite being a stranger, is the only one in Nico’s life who sees straight through him.

SAGITTARIUS (M/M ROMANCE)

–A shadow falls over me.

I open my eyes and glance at the man standing at the edge of the pool.

He looks like a Mormon. He’s wearing a nice suit over a white button-up, a shirt so white it’s blinding. His posture is perfect. There’s not a dark hair out of place on top of his head, and his trimmed beard perfectly outlines his strong jaw and traces his tight mouth.

He looks every bit as put together as I feel fallen apart.

“Your doorman is nice,” he says.

I huff. “Do I look like the type of person to have a doorman?”

His eyes flicker over me once. I’m suddenly acutely aware that I’m shirtless. And sunburned.

“Yes,” he states.

“That’s the meanest thing anyone’s ever said to me.”

“I doubt that.”

He crouches. His fingertips break the surface of the pool water. He has big hands. Strong hands. It feels invasive, the way he does it.

I think I’d enjoy being invaded by him.

I squint at him. “Who are you?”

“Eric. Eric North. I’m—”

My brain clicks on. “The actor.”

He nods. “Yes.”

“The actor who is acting in the movie about my book.”

My brain is a fog, and I have to sound reality out, like a child learning to read.

My teacher is patient. He nods. “Yes. Second Hand Kill. I play Ivan.”

I let out a long-suffering sigh. “Well then, you may as well drown me now.”

He blinks. “Come again?”

“I want nothing to do with it. I sold the rights for a reason. I want out. Take the book. It’s yours. A closed adoption, if you will. Just leave me out of it.”

“I had a couple questions. About Ivan. I was hoping you could help me.”

“Why don’t you ask your director?”

“I’m asking you.”

I stare at him. He can’t be serious. Can he?

I press my lips together. “Give me ten to freshen up.”

“Five,” he says. Ordering me around. In my own house, no less. “I saw your bar on the way in. I’ll fix us a drink.”

Project Update #1: Sagittarius 🌈

Great news…I finished the first draft of Sagittarius!!!

Now, it’s on the way to the editor…and I can’t wait for y’all to read it!

Sagittarius is my contribution to a 12-book collaboration of romance authors, each book a contemporary romance based off of a different astrology sign.

Sagittarius features Nico and Eric, who you might remember from Mr. Hollywood’s Secret. This M/M romance goes into the story of how they first fell in love.

Where do you get inspiration?

The thing about being a creative person is…you have to constantly be on the hunt for inspiration! 

In between writing breaks, I try to consume as much art as I can get my hands on…whatever form that takes. Books, TV, movies, music…anything to inspire me. 

This week, I wanted to give you a peek behind the curtain and into all my current inspirations

I absolutely fell in love with Eden Finley’s latest book! It’s an M/M Romantic Suspense, featuring two Black-ops soldiers who fall in love. 

It has…

 Loads of comical banter

 A dash of pulse-pounding suspense

 Surprisingly heart-warming, tender moments

What I liked most about this story, though, was even though it’s a romantic suspense, it has a lot of “feel good” moments in it. 

Eden Finley builds a found family of queer soldiers that you believe are friends, and you want to spend all day with. 

If you’re a fan of gay romances, add this one to your list!

Here are some that I finished watching that I highly recommend!

Our Flag Means Death (HBO): Gay pirates. That’s all. It’s funny, quirky, and feel-good. Crashing (Netflix): So I went on a Jonathan Bailey kick after “Bridgerton” and I stumbled on this British comedy. I haven’t laughed this hard at a show in a LONG time! Happiest Season (Hulu): Alright, I know it’s a little early for Christmas movies…but it’s a lesbian romantic comedy and I had to give it a rewatch. Warm fuzzies all around.

Golden Retriever Boyfriend VS. Psycho Boyfriend?

When it comes to book boyfriends, I find that I always tend to write two types of boyfriends…

The you look stressed, babe, do you need me rub your feet? book boyfriend

Or the touch her and you die book boyfriend

And sometimes, they both love the same girl (and each other)!

So it got me thinking…which do you prefer?

To clarify, here are the definitions:

Golden Retriever Boyfriend: Not an actual dog! Just a boyfriend who *acts* like a golden retriever, he’s loyal, devoted, a big sweetheart, and will fetch you whatever you need, the second you need it. A very good listener and can be very, er, direct-able.

Psycho Boyfriend: Not an official diagnosis. He might not always be great with Valentines’ gifts and often has a bad temper, but you’ll never find a more ride-or-die guy than this one. Plays with knives for fun (and sometimes even brings them in the bedroom).

To help with this (Very Scientific) thought experiment, I made a graph of my book boyfriends, listed from most-stabby to least-stabby.
