Socktober 20

Socks to be…not in progress yet, but look at that color!

These are “Unbeleafable” from knitcircus yarns. If I didn’t already have 1/2 a sock still to finish I would cast these on immediately. I’m also toying with the idea of knitting them up as a shawl/scarf. Start at one end of the first ball (maybe the outside green) when that ball if finished pick up the other end (inside red) of the other and just knit until it runs out. The colors are fantastic and I have a hard time not deciding I need more yarn when I look at the Knit Circus website. Take a moment and you may find yourself knitting socks in September.

I’ve ordered from them before, but I still find yarns/colors I want to knit. I’ve got to finish those socks currently on the needles and get on with this color!

Socktober 18/19

Yes, I missed a day. But I did work on a current sock and a cowl, so knitting was done in Socktober.

Another pair I knit for my husband. Don’t remember the yarn, but it looks like I held two strands together. As I’ve knit a lot of socks over time, I guess I’m entitled to forget details on some.

Yarn color is “Age of Brass and Steam”. I’ve knit a shawl in this same colorway. As to the shape…I have fat ankles so although the socks look oddly shaped they fit very well. I like the rows of eyelets around the leg portion and the second sock is knit with the colors reversed. Why? Because I wanted to do that. There is a ‘rolled’ edge made by knitting and letting it curl. I still like the way these turned out.

Today’s sock is a stranded, colorwork sock. The yarns are Socks that Rock from Blue Moon, but so long ago that I don’t see the colors listed any longer. Even so there are enough colors so fall or jump down this rabbit hole.

I loved (still love) the color combination, but I didn’t allow enough give in the stranding to make these very stretchable. Still they’ve gotten their wear.

Socktober 15

Halfway through the month and I’m still busy knitting…a pair of socks and a cowl.

And what the heck I ordered more yarn. I am a sucker for yarn. Companies that have my email drop their ‘hints’ in my inbox…well, I have to go check it out. After all I might miss something.

Some of the emails are from companies that are normally at the Rhinebeck Sheep Show (in New York State) this time of year. Well, no sheep show this year, so no sales for vendors unless they get creative…and they have gotten creative. I don’t begrudge them. It is their livelihood after all.

One thing about yarn is it doesn’t go bad, unless you’re unlucky enough to get an invasion of m***s. I think saying the “m” word is bad luck for yarn hoarders like using the play name “MacBeth” is during a production of said play is supposed to be unlucky.

These socks actually are finished and have been worn once. I’m just using the picture I took of them in progress last week. The color kind of fits MacBeth?

Socktober 14

Another day, another pair of self-striping yarn socks. Hubby’s…long foot…long shank.

Self-striping yarn is so much fun. In places that white/black section makes stripes, in others checkerboard designs and sometimes swishes. Again these started out matching but something happened at the heel and they got off ‘pattern’ for the foot. It doesn’t bother me and it doesn’t seem to bother my husband. Of course that part of the sock is usually not seen.

Socktober 13

These socks used a yarn meant to look like a calico cat. I did some eyelets near the top, but they are lost in the patterning of the yarn. A suitable color for this time of year.

Socktober 12

A good pair for the fall, in oranges with black, white and gray. These were knit for my husband an OSU (Oklahoma State University) fan. Pretty sure this was OPAL yarn again as they have this style of ‘patterned’ yarn. If you luck out with a pattern (or knitting tightness) with right number of stitches the black and white areas will make vertical stripes or diagonal stripes. Mine varied. But fun all the same.

Socktober 11

When I started knitting these socks I thought I had started in the same place in the yarn color repeat. Look at the cuffs and you will see they color progression is Pink, White, Navy… but somehow the yarn fooled me so these would be what would be called ‘fraternal’ socks. Same colors but not the same order. It’s okay.

Otherwise they are what is called ‘plain vanilla socks’. No fancy patterning just straight knitting, a few eyelets and ridges for interest but nothing complex.

Like life lately. Keep it simple.
