Magic Portals and Entrances to Faerie #folklore

Most of the time, portals that lead to the eerie, seldom visited and sought after hidden places are called “magic portals”. Only an elite few even know of their location, which they jealously guard, while some may stumble upon them when the stars align.

The forest is full of romance, mysterious voices echo in the shadowy glades, filmy forms glide along them, and consequently forests throughout the worl...

Tips on Raising Puppies #Rottweiler

There are various ways to raise puppies, but I think mine is superior to the “leave them with the other dogs and they’ll be alright” approach.

Stuff I Do When I Get a New Puppy

I always have a pen outside for them to play in during the day. It will have shade and sun throughout the day, they will have their food and water in small bowls (so they don’t accidentally drown), the other dogs can get up close to them through the wire mesh fence, they cannot escape (so I know where they are at all t...

Pool of Memories

This post was written for the Cherished Blog Fest 2017.

I immediately knew what I wanted to share this year.

The swimming pool has always been a place for our family to gather and have fun together. And though I’m not a great swimmer – my dogs have all believed through the years that I’m about to drown and have taken measures to save me – I have treasured memories of time spent in a swimming pool.

Though the swimming pool has changed – once because I moved and then because of renovations –  ...

Cherished Lamps and Rotties

This was written for the Cherished Blogfest 2016. Sometimes objects lead us to memories. For the Cherished Blogfest we’re invited to talk about a cherished object. In 500 words or so emotions, information and memories are shared.

cherished blogfest 2016

As a writer, I’m usually fully immersed in my writing yet standing apart from it. The point of this blogfest is sharing something cherished; something personal. It took me a while to find just the right object to write about.

I love my pens. But besides endless hour...

Things Every #Authorpreneur Should Know for 2019 #AuthorToolboxBlogHop

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

It’s a new year and time for the first Author Toolbox post.

I’m going to look at all the important things we should take note of right now as author(entre)preneurs. I’ve read so many blog posts, listened to various podcasts and attended a multitude of webinars, that it feels like my mind might explode if I keep it all to myself.

Google+ is shutting down.

Because of some technical stuff that I really don’t have the time or energy to read through, Google first ann...

Pixies All Over the Place #Folklore

Pixies are a fascinating breed of fae. There are so many folklore tales involving them and they find themselves in so many stories from around the world. I had so much fun reading through all the folklore manuscripts containing tales of pixies – but I had to whittle it down to stories particular to the way I use them in my own writing. Enjoy!

2019 Goals, Resolutions and Questions #IWSG

How did this happen? It’s 2019 already… It feels like only a few short weeks ago that I wrote about my SMART goals for 2018.

Yeah, a lot has changed and I accomplished most of what I set out to do – and so much more.

Okay, a quick recap of December: I had a pool-side vacation for all of two days before being bored out of my mind. The goblins in my head decided that we should move up the creation of the author website and here we are.

I know that I could’ve migrated everything from the old...

Understanding Vanity Publishing and Author Services

My obsession with learning everything there is to know about publishing continues! Last month I looked at Freelancers — which raised a lot of questions about vanity publishers. So, I found someone who knows a lot about the subject to clear it all up for us.

This post is part of the February #AuthorToolBoxBlogHop, hosted by Raimey Gallant. My name is Iola Goulton, and I’m a regular participant in the Blog Hop from my own website, Christian Editing Services (www.christianediting.co.nz). Ronel...
