Fridays and Films
I love Fridays because that's the day most new movies hit theaters. And I'm a film nut. I like going to midnight showings, seeing a film I like multiple times in the theater, and spending a whole day at the movies seeing as many movies as I possibly can. I find movies very inspiring. Many of you know that I often listen to music while I write. Less of you probably know my cure for writer's block: The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring Extended Version Disc 1. Yup. Not Disc 2. Just disc 1. I put that on and I can feel myself relax and my mind clears and I can write like the wind. And then in 1 hour 45 minutes and 36 seconds when I'm rudely interrupted by the ending, I play it all over again. My husband has put in a request that we actually watch disc 2 and see the second half of the movie sometime this year. We haven't seen the second half of the movie for about two years. Love it, can't write to it.
So, it should come as no surprise that this film makes my top 5 list of fantasy films, my top 5 list of films based on books, and my top 10 list of rewatchable films. It also has an entry on my top 5 list of things that have scared me in a film. Since I've talked about how often I watch it throughout this post, I'll go ahead and share the rest of my list of films with high rewatchability for me. This list is comprised solely of films that I've seen at least thirty times. (Before you freak out at that number, consider this: my most read book I've read well over three hundred times!) Not all of these are my favorite movies of all time but they are movies I can watch any time regardless of the mood I'm in. In no particular order:
My Top 10 Rewatchable Movies
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
True Lies
Undercover Blues
Legally Blonde
Clue
The Addam's Family
Addam's Family Values
Murder by Death
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (yes, the film)

Michael Deveraux
One of the more interesting characters to write for Wicked was the villain (or rather, one of them) Michael Deveraux. He's deliciously scary and evil, but handsome and charismatic. One of the games at my house is Who Would You Cast in the Movie of the Book? And fans and interviewers seem to enjoy this game as well. Well, a lot of names have been thrown out there by people, suggestions for who should play Michael Deveraux. Some of them are fascinating ideas. I went to Megacon this weekend (as an attendee, not a guest) and I have a new answer as to who I would cast as Michael Deveraux.
John Schneider.
Yes, that's right, Bo Duke, Jonathan Kent, John Schneider.
The man is getting better looking the older he gets and he is very charismatic. Also, he's a magician. He's taken on the role of villain in a few recent outings as well. And the more I thought about it, the more I thought he could bring that twisted father-son relationship that Michael has with both Jer and Eli. I think it would be fascinating.
And speaking of villains. Here's my picks for Top 5 Movie Villains:
Darth Vader (original trilogy David Prowse – body, James Earl Jones – voice, Bob Anderson – fencing)
The Joker (Heath Ledger)
Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman)
The Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman)
Megamind (Will Ferrell)
