A friend sent this to me today. It's a beautiful reminder that "the imperfections are what make people perfect for us."

THE DEMISE OF CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS
One lesson I've taken from my historical research is this: we must judge people within the context of their own time. Can a sportscaster compare Bobby Jones to Tiger Woods without taking into consideration the effects technology and modern training have had on the entire sport of golf since Bobby's day? How could they? They same is true of the innovators throughout history. If we hold these historical figures to today's morays, and judge their actions against today's wisdom and understanding, ...

THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER
I don't know who wrote this modern version of the timeless story, but kudos to them. It's a sad shift on the old fable and the lessons it was intended to teach, and it illustrates the big question: "What values are we trying to teach now?"
Keep in mind that this timeless fable really is just that . . . timeless. Variations on the story and its moral of thrift, hard work and prudence can be found as far back at 347 A.D. Proverbs 6:6-9 may be the original source, ma...

GET ON BOARD THE BLOG TOUR!!!
Books are like pumpkins--you wait a long, long time for them to finally be ready, and then their season comes, and you've got about six weeks to do something great with them or they go soft.Pumpkins rot. Books get pulled from the "New Release" shelves to spend eternity growing dusty on some obscure shelf that serves as the literary equivalent of the Island for Misfit Toys. And we don't want that!
So we market, and market, and market. And because I really do think Dawn's Early Light is a book t...

My husband is still recovering from the total replacement...
My husband is still recovering from the total replacement of his left knee, and already, less than four weeks out, we can see years of pain and limitations begin to peel away. This surgery is a blessing.
But it is also a challenging recovery. The meds today can address the pain, but the patient needs to do the rehab, or the surgery will gain them little. The therapy, the work required to return your range of motion, and to unlearn old habits created by babying the bad knee--limping, walking cr...

SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION AND SOME WRITING ADVICE
Kersten Campbell, author of the candid and hilarious book, Confessions of an Insane Mother, was the first in the biz to review Dawn's Early Light for me. It's no easy task for the early birds who are sent a cyber-copy by email and therefore read and review over a dimly-lit computer screen. Thanks, Kersten! She also conducted an interview with me about writing in general, as well as my experiences with this particular book. She's posting that interview, along with her review of Dawn's Early...

Forgive me. I've been terrible about staying in touch. How are you doing? I hope life is sweet and peaceful, and that things are normalizing wherever you are.
As for me, well . . . I've upset the fruit basket, as they say. I moved from Maryland to Utah, someone hijacked my blog, I ruptured my Achilles, had surgery, and all while we shared this little seventeen-month adventure called a Pandemic.
I'd love to catch you up on all my book news. Here's a link to my latest blog post: https://www.laurielclewis.com/post/bl...
