The Dying Democracy

Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu of Israel controlled the executive branch to the point that the most important ministerial roles he took for himself. He is accused of bribing the media to support him politically and is trying to control the judiciary system starting with the Supreme Court.   In Serbia, President Vučić, I am told, totally controls not only the executive branch but the media, the legislative and the judicial system by appointing judges he wants and dismissing…

On Gun Violence

The right to bear arms, which is a constitutional right, was designed to grant people the right to oppose an oppressive government. I suggest that while this reasoning might have been legitimate when it was written into the Constitution, it doesn't look at all realistic today when governments have an incredible stock of armaments that can overcome any gun-carrying population. The operational reasoning is not there. It…

Extrinsic Versus Intrinsic Rewards In A World That Is Changing

Extrinsic rewards are those that reward even if you do not necessarily do a task.  Getting a subsidy , for instance. You still can buy something with the money although you did nothing to earn it.      It is extrinsic because  their perceived value depends on how it is valued externally and this perceived value has a very short term of rewarding. Maybe two weeks. And its perceived value is not the absolute reward but…

How to Find Love

I know quite a few ladies who complain to me that they cannot find the love of their life.   The common denominator? They all live in big cities with a lot of hustle and a lot of stress. And note, in big cities with a lot of action, people have dogs or cats, someone to greet them with unconditional love when they get home.   Why…

Why People Do Not Take Responsibility

Many leaders have experienced the frustration when someone consistently refuses to take responsibility.   There are many ways to avoid accepting responsibility. The most obvious way is by giving endless excuses or, later, to blame someone else for the wrongdoing.   While consulting in formerly communist countries, I had an insight into why this might be happening. In those countries, dictatorships were the mode of government. The same might be happening in companies managed very autocratically.   In dictatorships, decisions are made from the top down, often without feedback from those responsible for carrying out the assignments. Goals are set based more on what…

Loving Haters

I remember reading a diary written by one of Yugoslav partisan generals, Dedier, whose unit was fighting the axis forces during the   Second World War. Dedier was describing how his partisan unit surrounded an Italian garrison at night as the Italian soldiers were sitting around a bonfire singing “’O sole mio” (Oh My Sun). Then he wrote, "They sang about the sun, but none of them saw the sun again. They were all dead before dawn."    Just…

Your Calendar – The Mirror of Your Values

In my work as a consultant to top management, I come across the same question over and over again: “Doctor Adizes, how do I balance my professional career with my personal life? I am not just a corporate leader, but also a spouse, a parent, and a community member. What do I do when my…

Screaming Equals Hitting

This is a dangerous blog to write because I have learned that I get into trouble anytime I write something that impacts women in any way. I hope not to this time.    Women complain about violence. Physical violence is a crime and should be punished. No one should suffer from violence. Period. I shudder…

It Is Time for Feminine Energy

Let us first clarify what we mean by feminine energy and masculine energy. In this insight, I am not referring to a sexual differentiation. I am focusing on the difference in energy and style. Masculine energy is linear, focused, and task-oriented. With masculine energy, more is better, i.e. quantity reflects quality. In Adizes Methodology lingo,…
