Exclusive Expanded Preview of Snowfall #1

The Onion’s A.V. Club is running a special 10-page expanded preview of SNOWFALL #1!

With their last Image Comics series, Great Pacific, writer Joe Harris and artist Martín Morazzo revealed their fascination with climate change and political intrigue by telling the story of a fugitive oil heir that settles the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Those two plot elements are also at the core of their new ongoing Image endeavor launching in February: the politically charged sci-fi thriller Snowfall. Set 30 years in the future, Snowfall imagines a world where corporations rule the “Cooperative States of America” and climate change has gotten so bad that snow has become a phenomenon of the past. This extended preview of Snowfall #1 details the status quo of the series and introduces the one man fighting against a broken system, The White Wizard, combining world-building and action to thrust the reader into the setting. Joined by colorist Kelly Fitzpatrick, letterer Michael David Thomas, and designer Tom Muller, Harris and Morazzo kick off the book with an intriguing start, but readers will have to wait until February to learn more about this bleak near future.

Coming this February from Image Comics: SNOWFALL

Looks like the February solicits just went live, so I’m finally able to unveil the new ongoing series from Martín Morazzo and myself: SNOWFALL! This is the first of a few new series I’m going to be rolling out at Image over 2016. Stay tuned for more details, press and all that good stuff!

SNOWFALL #1
STORY: JOE HARRIS

ART / COVER: MARTÍN MORAZZO

FEBRUARY 17 / 32 PAGES / FC / M / $3.99

Writer JOE HARRIS (The X-Files) and artist MARTÍN MORAZZO (Vertigo Quarterly), creators of GREAT PACIFIC, reunite for a brand new ongoing science-fiction series and an OVERSIZED DEBUT ISSUE featuring thirty-two pages of story!

In the year 2045 it no longer snows. A catastrophic crash has left the climate ravaged, society splintered, and the newly-christened “Cooperative States of America” propped up and administered by the powerful Hazeltyne Corporation. Only one man wages an all-out weather war against the system, wielding the forces of nature themselves as weapons. He is the White Wizard. The ghost in the night. Genius. Terrorist. Outlaw. Hero?

You can read the press release from Image Comics here, with preview pages to follow:

An all-new series set in a post-snow world where weather is a weapon

Bestselling writer Joe Harris (The X-Files) and artist Martín Morazzo (Vertigo Quarterly), creators of GREAT PACIFIC, reunite for an all-new ongoing science-fiction series set in the year 2045—where it no longer snows.

“With Snowfall, we’re presenting a 21st century America in which the climate has gone completely to shit and where fully recognized corporate personhood and control isn’t just accepted, but necessary. The time for industry forces lying about the effects of climate change have long passed,” said Harris. “They’ve moved on to profiting mightily from managing the fallout now. The haves enjoy the resources to mitigate the damage while the have-nots suffer the effects more acutely, living in these resettlement zones that are jointly administered by those same corporate forces with their fingerprints all over the crash. And it’s against this backdrop that resistance takes place. It isn’t clean, pretty or neat. Sometimes, we’re going to see, it’s not even that noble a fight. But desperation makes men do desperate things. This is a series with plenty of sci-fi action, ‘mad scientist’ manipulations and schemes, and a protagonist who may—or may not—be the greatest super-villain in history, depending on who writes it. It’s a story about humanity seeking dominion over forces beyond its control, the inevitable backlash, and the desperate attempt to reclaim, rebuild and redeem.”

In SNOWFALL #1, readers are introduced to a world where a catastrophic crash has left the climate ravaged, society splintered, and the newly-christened “Cooperative States of America” propped up and administered by the powerful Hazeltyne Corporation.

In the bleak world of SNOWFALL, only one man can wage an all-out weather war against the system, wielding the forces of nature themselves as weapons. He is the White Wizard. The ghost in the night. Genius. Terrorist. Outlaw. Hero?

Morazzo added: “As we strove to do with Great Pacific, this new series presents a visually unique world where environmental catastrophe meets science fiction adventure. The look and feel for 2045 is both bleak and beautiful and filled with both dread and promise all at once. I am incredibly proud of this work!”

SNOWFALL #1 (Diamond Code DEC150539) will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, February 17th. The final order cutoff deadline for comic book retailers is Monday, January 25th.

My 2015 New York Comic Con Details & Schedule

The hometown show looms this week and I’m bringing a lot of stuff down to the Javits Center including all the X-FILES books you could possibly want… the SEASON 10 hardcovers, the SEASON 11 comics (including issue #3, out this week), scripts, a highly limited print illustrated by my wonderful collaborator, Matthew Dow Smith and signed and slipcased by me and the brand new MILLENNIUM collected edition trade that just came out… in addition to the usual compliment of GREAT PACIFIC trades, my Oni Press graphic novels, GHOST PROJEKT, SPONTANEOUS and WARS IN TOYLAND, and those spiffy new ALICE COOPER hardcovers Dynamite just released.

First off, I’ll be spending the great majority of the convention in ARTIST ALLEY — the best room in comics, for my money — TABLE #AA-2.

THURSDAY 10/8 – 3:00 – 400: X-Files Signing (IDW Booth #1844)

SUNDAY 10/11 – 3:00 – 3:45: Great Pacific Signing w/ Martin Morazzo (Image Comics Booth #1544)

**I might have a sneak peek at our upcoming Image series on hand at the show too (just don’t tell anybody!)
