Princess Book #4
The agent conversation went quite well :-)
With offer in hand, I can tell you that some time in 2011 we should see book four in the princess series, tentatively titled Secret of the Snow Queen.
I don't know whether book four will be the last. Number four will give me the opportunity to wrap up some of the plot threads from the series, but there are still several loose ends that could work for a fifth book. I didn't pitch a fifth because I don't currently have a solid idea for what to do with one

Perfect Storm (Lack of Sleep Edition)
1. Boy wakes up from bad dream, and is returned to bed. Not a big deal yet.
2. Daughter wakes up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. For some reason, she always uses the one in our bedroom, as opposed to the one down the hall.
3. Daughter is quiet, but the son stirs again, thanks to his superwakeup powers. Sleepy and confused, the son wanders into the living room. Finding nobody there, he then wanders into daughter's room.
4. Daughter is already up in her loft bed, and calls to

Writing. Diabetes. The Same ... Only Different
This is something I've been thinking about off and on for a while now, and it mostly comes down to accountability.
As we're growing up, we learned that sometimes we could dodge the consequences of our actions. A well-told excuse or lie might keep us from getting into trouble. (No, really! I swerved to avoid a cat and hit a patch of ice, and that's how I ended up in the ditch. Nothing to do with doing donuts on the backroads...) It continues well into college, as any teacher of freshman compo

Guess what just showed up on Amazon! The Mermaid's Madness is now available for pre-order, or for adding to wish lists. Woo hoo!
Today was my day to post at SF Novelists. Hop on over if you're curious about my thoughts on the ethics of promoting your friends. (I also promote three of my friends in this post -- you've been warned :-)
Penguicon Writing Workshop, because we've only gotten two submissions so far.
Wrote a scene yesterday. Original plan -- lots of chaos, and people getting ki

Scribd
Some of you might remember the big SFWA vs. Scribd mess from a while back. In brief, Scribd.com is a file sharing site, and was violating copyright on a number of hosted works. SFWA sent an overly broad takedown notice, demanding the removal of a long list of works, some of which were there legitimately. Lots of online messiness ensued.
Fast forward to the present. I mentioned on 2/5 that a copy of The Stepsister Scheme [Amazon | Mysterious Galaxy] had ended up on Scribd.com. My publisher se

Deader Still, by Anton Strout

Note: Anton works at Penguin. I think this is coincidence. Anton doesn't like anyone. Except maybe Amber Benson, who also said nice things about Deader Still. Gr ... Anton has Amber Benson, Pat Rothfuss has Felicia Day ... when do I get a famous Holly
