Day 3,761: Valentine’s

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

It’s super late, so I’ll keep this one brief…but it was a wonderful day. We made ourselves dinner! Steak, potates, salad, and shishito peppers with a super fancy bottle of Napa cab. It was insanely good. Legitimately, insanely good. And then we made a fresh fruit tart that was delicious.

Now…sleeps. Love you Bear, you’re my everything.

Day 3,760: Baking Baby

So…I want to make a fruit tart for valentine’s day. Liz and I are making it together, but it’s my idea, my initiative. Two elements can be made in advance, the pastry cream and the tart pastry dough. So, we decided to make those tonight.

I’m positive we botched both of them, lol. I just have no idea what I’m doing, so even following directions to a tee, I still fuck stuff up all over the place because I have no foundation of skills. Like…our pastry cream isn’t going to set. It’s just not, I k...

Day 3,759: Read

God, there’s so much I haven’t read. Sigh. I want to read so much more. And watch everything. And write everything. And get all of the housework done. And make all the money.

Not as easy as it sounds. Impossible, even. But, here we are, trying anyway.

I’m wiped. It’s bed time. Night night.

Day 3,758: Defeat

Well…the Niners yet again have played in a super bowl and lost. We played well. REALLY well. Both defenses were elite. Both teams struggled mightily to score all game. It went all the way DEEP into overtime, but by the end, Patrick Mahomes had one more touchdown drive in him than we did. We kicked a field goal. He threw a wide open, game-winning touchdown.

The loss wasn’t on our defense. It wasn’t on our offense. Both had opportunities to win the game and couldn’t quite do it, but that was fa...

Day 3,757: Annie K

Tilde turned 12 today. She invited her entire 6th (7th?…pretty sure it’s 6th) grade class to the park near school, and they played capture the flag, the whipped cream game where you can’t use your hands and you have to eat a plate of whipped cream, ate pizza and listened to music. Her turnout was pretty good. I think she’s making friends at her new school, which surprises none of us; Tilde is good at meeting people.

It’s wild; all those kids are growing up. Mir is a freshman. Tilde’s in middl...

Day 3,756: Poof

Podcasted! It was actually a good one tonight; I enjoyed it. There was a baseline level of competence that felt like a step forward as far as I’m concerned. Certainly better than the last two we’ve watched. And it was actually charming, which is refreshing given that Hitch has missed the mark so often when it comes to relationships and people.

Work was quiet today. Thank lord. I was able to sleep in and still get some solid writing done without being worried I’d be late on something. I even g...

Day 3,755: Miss You

Miss you Coco. You died today one year ago. It’s been a blur since then, to be honest. I don’t have a concept of time when it comes to being without you. When I think of you, only the time we had together is something I can grasp.

What a hard day that was a year ago. It was even worse the next day, I remember, waking up in tears and alone. Well…not alone because I was never alone…but…missing you.

Still miss you. Terribly. I wish I could snuggle up next you now and fall asleep together.

Day 3,754: Early To Rise

I had a great writing session this morning. I identified my holdup. The section that was giving me the troubles, and so I set aside what I was doing to figure it out. And I did! A major chunk of it, at least. And there are a few other chunks to figure out, both plot and character-arc-wise, but it felt like breaking open the logjam.

And then work got crazy. Sigh 😛 But, I still got in my couple hours in the morning. Phew!

It’s off to bed early now. Gotta make it two days in a row. Woohoo!

Day 3,753: Awesome Dog

The rain has finally petered out. It was just dry enough this morning to take the pups out on a proper walk—incidentally the last time Joy has gone number 2 as far as we can tell…which means she’ll probably wake me up in the middle of the night to go outside and do it—and then it rained the rest of the day until now. Light rain, but steady nonetheless. Quite the storm, for sure. Rarely do we get such steady rain for several days. It’s going to make everything so green…and I’ve got this one weed ...

Day 3,752: Hungry Dog

Watched a couple movies today, actually. It was just the right kind of day for it; dark, cold, wet…and oh so sleepy and cozy inside. But what we just finished was Kelce, about Jason Kelce of the Eagles. Very sweet doc. Highly recommend. It was about many things. One that stuck with me was his considering retiring, his body breaking down, and wondering where else in his life is he going to the best at what he does?

Klay Thompson is going through that right now. He got benched in the fourth qua...
