Back in the Sunshine State
I’M BACK IN FLORIDA AND IT FEELS SO GOOD!!! Okay, I know I’m sounding too excited about such a thing, but you must understand the circumstances around this marvelous trip.
See, I use to live in Florida with my mother and little brother before moving to Philadelphia to live with my grandmother. So, to be back in The Sunshine State, especially for a convention (Holiday Matsuri) so marvelous, is a dream come true for me. Granted, I am here for work but I’m treating more like a vacation. The weather was exactly like I remember, and it was a welcoming change to the bitter cold that’s waiting for me back in Ohio.
However, I’m not too happy with the upcoming drama that might loom over my vacation. I’m going to get into because I don’t want to jinx it. Let’s just say that a former employee doesn’t know how to let go and keep it at that. It’s remarkably astonishing about much easier it is for people to hold on to a grudge; maybe it’s because without it, we would be forced to deal with our real issues.
Anyway, I officially got a chance to actually enjoy my vacation after completing the rough draft of “A Night Among Angels”. That way I can focus on work/fun at Holiday Matsuri without being behind schedule on my book. FYI, it’s going to bit slow and it’s worrying me a bit because of my first time – in a long time – experiencing a writer’s block that strong.
Finally, much like Anime Nebrakon and Grand Rapid Comic Con, I will be working the Pennings brother on promoting their spectacular game: MageQuit. As I stated a few weeks ago, the information about their game – as well as the link – below:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/572220/MageQuit/
“MageQuit is a wizard-brawling arena game where up to 10 players use spells and physics to do battle. As a wizard, you are granted a staff with a glowing D20, giving you unique elemental abilities. With every kill, your neckbeard and fame grow. Will you end up as Merlin, or be forever cursed with peach fuzz?”
The game is only available for Steam, right now, but it will be released for console later on in its development period. They told me that the game is still, technically, not done.
Now, I’m going to continue my fun in the sun before the day is done.

Changing Lanes
This week has been quite an eventful week for me both nice and…not nice. Equal amount of light and darkness has been plaguing me all week.
This week, I finally got my permit and learning how to drive; it’s quite an interesting ordeal. Now, I can see the looks on your guys’ faces so let me explain. I was raised in Philadelphia, PA, for most of my life, and since Philadelphia is a metropolitan city with a brilliantly responsive transit system, I never really had the desire to learn how to drive. And, when I say, “brilliantly responsive”, I’m not exaggerating. Buses, trains, trolley, high-speed lines and subway systems are almost always on time with the friendliest drivers. Well…friendly to me, mostly, since I have a knack of putting smiles on people’s faces.
But, back to the driving, since I moved to Ohio, I was having the hardest time doing my merchandising job with Premium Retail Service because Columbus, OH doesn’t have as reliable to what I’m accustomed to. See, when I’m given five SOs (Service Orders) to complete, I can usually get it done by 4-5p if I leave my place at 10-11a or so. Not the case in Ohio; thanks to their sub-par transit system, I’m usually done by 8-9p so I was enlightened to get my license and car.
Driving isn’t that bad; it’s actually quite delightful. The only problem that I’m having with this new learning experience is that my overthinking (something my buddy at NGA hired me for as I can analysis every possible scenario) can be my worst enemy on the road. Plus, I tend to panic way too easily but that’s starting to die down a bit after being put on the highway. My buddy has a knack for training people with the best results.
Learning how to drive, and playing Tales of Berseria (lovely game by the way), couldn’t have come at a better time because I’m having the most wicked case of writer’s block. And I do mean wicked because I RARELY get writer’s block. Especially when I have THREE series to work on…it’s a little disconcerting. Honestly, as I’m getting ready for Holiday Matsuri, I’ll be cured of it and will continue to belt out more stories in a timely fashion.
Finally, I’m ending my night by watching The Game Awards 2017 – again. I’m so happy for all the winners for this year:

I’m also excited for the trailer for Soul Calibur 6, my second favorite fighting game series. Hopefully, they’ll do better than their previous installment. Bayonetta 3 looks fantastic and, dare I say it, it’s about damn time. And, also, more importantly, I want to say congratulations to Carol Shaw for being awarded the Industry Icon Award. A well-deserved award for such a brilliant and influential woman.

A Field of Dreams to Play On
The Wall Scroll program is officially underway, and I couldn’t be prouder. I initially designed the program to allow my best mate’s company (Nexus Gaming Alliance) to connect with numerous artist around the country – and maybe the world – and assist with their journey for social and professional exposure.
See, we just partnered up with a predominant wall scroll company that will turn artist’s artwork, specifically artists who don’t have the means to travel to various conventions, into wall scrolls that we will sale for them. We currently have thirty artists on my wishlist but can only afford about 3-5 artist for the winter cycle. The only thing that’s left is to create a contract and form for the website that’s currently getting a remodel. Hopefully, this program will expand the network for myself and my buddy’s company.
That being said, if you are an artist who wants to increase, or start, their exposure and have a solid collection of artwork, please do not hesitate to email me at jpyfrom@ngainc.org to be added to our wishlist.
Later on, in the week, I found myself rewriting a few of my short stories for future installments of my beloved Dimensions series. See, the stories for the second installment are stamped and not going to change because, well…there’s prefect for showcasing the yin-yang theory towards humanity. However, the third and fourth installment of this series (yes! I’ve planned that far ahead; it’s a beautiful habit of mine), though I have the title for it already set (Mortal Duality and Forced Symphony, respectively), I’m finding myself shuffle through stories. Not because they’re bad, quite the opposite. The problem is that I have to selective about what stories because they have to fix the theme of the installment or it’ll throw off the series.
To add insult to my sanity, I was talking to a mate of mine back home in Philadelphia and he told me something very interesting about our future in our respective field of passion (he’s an indie film director and Tae Kwon Do master). See, he just made it his personal mission to create more content for his portfolio and, having worked with him on a few small projects, can understand his frustration regarding furthering his passion and skills. Interesting enough, this conversation started after learning that Celtx began pushing their subscription fee by crippling free members’ content.
One of the projects we regrettably had to shelf was still on my account was a martial art series that I ended up adding to my space opera’s roster thus “sharing the rights” to the character. I did this because, (1) we both believe that this series can be brilliant and only reason that he had to shelf it was because the building(s) he wanted for the series became unavailable to him and (2) it will allow my space opera to expand to other media when we are able to pick it back up. That being said, I told him to focus on things other martial arts in order to broaden the horizon and add versatility to the portfolio. He, in turn, told me the same thing reminding me that my stories aren’t just meant for books.
I had to smile at that because, if you remember, a while back, I had told myself that I would focus on my own thing i.e. books and nothing else. But, it would seem that God has an entirely different plan for me and I’m just going to have to accept that. I must learn how to share the love, so to speak.
Oh! How rude of me, if you want to see the things my buddy, Andrew Kibe has done for his recently created studio, Kibble Production, you can find him on his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/kibblesproductions/
You can also hire him for various events that requires a videographer, director and such.
Well, that’s all for this week. Come back next week, yeah?

Marvel, Gaming and Writing…oh my
First things first, Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and a safe Black Friday. I won’t be participating in either holiday because I desperately want some alone time from the world. That, and I don’t like shopping on Black Friday; I prefer Cyber Monday since I don’t have to do a lot of physical store hopping. However, I won’t be participating in that, either. So, move on…
Now, let me just say right off the bat, Marvel’s The Punisher and The Runaway are so good that I’m probably going to watch it again – just for giggles. Jon Bernthal did another fantastic job with portraying the iconic anti-hero and I have to give props to Paul Schulze and Ben Barnes for their performance because they made me believing in my hatred towards them as villains. Plus, I have to say it, it’s about damn time that the Punisher got a proper adaptation. Funny enough, I was actually binge-watching the series while finishing up Earthbound.
The Runaway, on the other hand, is something I didn’t expect. In all honesty, I didn’t know that something like that even existed at this point. Although, in all fairest, comic books aren’t really my area of expertise. Nevertheless, the show was a delight to saw and it was always a pleasure to see James Marsters on the small screens. Haven’t seen him since he played the hilarious immortal professor Bennet Sutton on the hit 2009 Sy-Fy show: Warehouse 13. Love that character as much as I love Spike.
Even better, I manage to beat Earthbound (SNES, 1994) and Link’s Awakening (GB, 1998) within the course of a week as part of an ongoing Gamer’s Challenge. I wanted to complete both games and TV shows before the weekend arrives because I save those days for my story writing. I actually thought I would have been done with my short stories by now, but life had a different plan, so I had to adjust. Hopefully, I can get this done before the end of January 2018 so I can send them, along with my first installment, to an editor. That way I can work on other literary projects while my short stories are being edited.
Not a lot to talk about this week. Been mostly quiet as I’m working on this artist project for my best mate’s company that we’re trying to debut for 2018. Although we’re running into some hiccups, we’re very optimistic of its completion and flourishing potential.

Helping Hands, Lending Support
Getting my friend’s company ready for 2018 along with writing my short stories for Volume 2 and 3 for my Dimensions series is really starting to break me down aka starting to get fun for me.
I’m beginning to understand that I’m at my best when I’m multitasking like a madman. When I’m focused on a singular task, I try to prefect it and I end up doing the one thing that I try to avoid: stress out. However, if I have multiple objectives to complete, I can divide my attention and work for effectively because I can stop one task and focus on another when I’m stuck on something. Yes, I know, it’s weird but you should come to expect that from me.
For NGA (Nexus Gaming Alliance), my buddy’s company, I was tasked with adding more conventions to the Master List whether it be for running the Game Room, selling merchandises (my primary focus) or both. That task seemed easier until I realized how late in the year we were to register for a good portion of these conventions, but I’m told that God made my tongue silver for a reason so, clearly, he has faith in my innate abilities. Either that or he’s seriously overestimating my skills of wordplay.
On top of that, I still have plans to assist my buddies at Bowlcut Studios with promoting their debut game. YES! IT’S JUST THAT GOOD!!! See for yourself:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/572220/MageQuit/
“MageQuit is a wizard-brawling arena game where up to 10 players use spells and physics to do battle. As a wizard, you are granted a staff with a glowing D20, giving you unique elemental abilities. With every kill, your neckbeard and fame grow. Will you end up as Merlin, or be forever cursed with peach fuzz?”
The game is only available for Steam, right now, but it will be released for console later on in its development period. They told me that the game is still, technically, not done.
Today is really good because Marvel’s The Punisher is out on Netflix and it will binged as I type up my stories. I’ve been anticipating this show for the longest time and I know Jon Bernthal is going to do a spectacular job – just like on Daredevil. I see great potentials for this series. I also need to finally binge-watch the second season of Stranger Things and Mindhunters. After that, I will all caught up on my Netflix shows and will redirect my attention to Hulu with Smallville, Younger, Devious Maids, Future Man along with so many others. This is good because I can listen to something while I write; I can’t stand working in silence.
My final objective is getting my debut book reedited and rereleased for 2018 because I was kindly and bluntly informed that it was littered with more grammatical errors than I was comfortable with. I was completely mortified when I learned about that and made a vow to not let that happen ever again. My friend told me that, although I didn’t mean to, I was valuing quantity over quality and my product suffered because of it. So, I will be paying a gentleman to properly and professionally edit Volume 1 of the Dimensions series. This will be done well before my second installment is released to the public.
Anyway, thanks for listening to my nonsense, I know it’s not as fruitful as my other posts, but I didn’t have a lot to vent about this time around.

Another Dimension To Be Observed
November is starting to be a wickedly splendid whirlwind of projects and stories that needs, or will, require my attention. A small portion of my friends are asking for my assistance on their projects and it leaves me in very concerning position. It’s not that I don’t want to help them, it’s that I want to dive into another project with someone that doesn’t share the same level of ambition as me. Some of them I would be willing to do in a heartbeat but others I’m not too sure about. I’m going to have to pray on it and ask the Lord to bestow on me the wisdom to choose properly.
Now, move onward, I’ve begun writing out the short stories for the second installment of the Dimensions series. Of course, there are some things I can tell you. One of the big things I can tell you is that I will explore the duality of humanity on various sides. Although I’m playing with titles for this installment, I do find Heroism and Villainy to be pretty damn catchy. My buddy who is still working on getting a Dimension series on a platform wants to have three seasons worth of material WHEN he lands a yes. (Yes! He’s just that confidence and I have just that much faith in him; his ambition is equal to mine).
So! I would like to announce the eight “working” title of my stories for this installment. I’m not digging a few of them so they may change:
Heroism:
Brothers in Arms
A Night Among Angels
Testament of Good Will
A Gift to Humanity
Villainy:
Cries of the Innocence
Shades of Evil
Colors of Humanity
Nightmare Everlasting
(Yp! These “titles” are definitely going to go through changes before the end of the month!) But! The events that I drew inspiration from will always remain the same. Oh! You want to know the inspiration for the stories. Well, can’t tell you that until it’s done. Sigh…the writer’s mind is always barred.
Finally, while I’m in Nebraska for Anime Nebraskon, I will be working the Pennings brother on promoting their spectacular game: MageQuit. As I stated two weeks ago, the information about their game – as well as the link – below:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/572220/MageQuit/

The game is only available for Steam, right now, but it will be released for console later on in its development period. They told me that the game is still, technically, not done.
Now, I need to get packed and rest because I head out in a couple of hours. Until then, farewell and God bless.

Queer Eyes: Author Ready to Rise
So! I told you that I was going to tell you the name of my LGBT+ series and, as promised, I am finally ready to tell you.
The name of the series is called Queer Eyes and I am excited about this series for a few reasons. First, and most important, I want to be able to connect with my LGBT community – both in and outside the geek/nerd culture. Each installment will have a major crime that plaques our community while the main character (a transgender man) is trying to navigate life and find love and acceptance among himself and others – mostly himself. I have been spending so much time writing up outlines and researching information about the duties and job description of a Private Investigator (I’m probably not to go to EVERYTHING about that to the letter). Along with that, I wanted to get a better understanding on the Transgender community – including their usual turmoil in life.
This leads to the other reason for creating this series: I do love a challenge. My younger brother looked at my book series roster and noticed that I had TWO science fiction series in my lineup. Yeah, I know, I move fast but that’s not the point. The point is that, when he saw it, he had to ask a very compelling question: Have you consider writing a book about your community? It made sense. I’ve been part of the LGBT+ community for the longest time so I’m already equipped with the knowledge to write such a series. Only question was which genre would it fit best in for me…and since I like crime shows.
Now! You got the name of the series, but I can’t tell you much about the book except that it’s going to revolve around gay bashing and will feature a very VERY vile antagonist. At first it was going to deal with high school bullying, however, I decided to change it up as I want to the series to open with a powerful surge of emotion. Plus, it was easier for me to slowly merge the two worlds of the main characters together to move the story along into some real dark territories…I do mean dark.
As I stated last week, I began writing the first book of the Queer Eyes series in December since I’ll be spending this month working on the twelve stories for second and third installments. This schedule makes sense because it doesn’t take long for me to write for me to write short stories. Optimistically, I can probably finish them all before I reach the halfway point of this month if I don’t get too heavily distracted. Of course, time will tell.

First Time for Many Things
Grand Rapid Comic Con was so surreal for me. It was my first time in Michigan. My first gig at my new job (Final Boss Gaming). My first time creating contacts that was both friendly and professional. And first time leading the charge of the game room. Also, the first time I’m booking my own gig for Final Boss Gaming. First time creating my own program for Final Boss Gaming for indie games. Yeah, a first time for a lot of things and I’m loving it.
What makes it better is that I got to meet two brothers with such an innovative mind and a fantastic game called MageQuit. The game was simple but complex and everybody in the room couldn’t keep their hands off the game. Along with that, the brothers (Brett and Chad) are super approachable and excited about their creation which led to a very lovely friendship which I hope flourish to something more outside of the game room. Hopefully, they’ll allow me to put my Bachelor’s degree to work. The information about the game – as well as the links – below:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/572220/MageQuit/
“MageQuit is a wizard-brawling arena game where up to 10 players use spells and physics to do battle. As a wizard, you are granted a staff with a glowing D20, giving you unique elemental abilities. The game is only available for Steam, right now, but it will be released for console later on in its development period. They told me that the game is still, technically, not done. I haven’t had a chance to play it in Grand Rapid but I’m going to try get my hands on it at our next convention: Anime Nebraskon. That’s right, I have another convention – in another state – to go to, in about two weeks (November 10-12, 2017).
So, in preparation of all of that, my colleagues have been helping me with the indie project of mine while I continue to work on the outlines of my books. At THIS point, I have completed the following tasks:
Character outlines for ALL three series
Premise for Book 4 for the Dimensions series
Outline of plot to Book 1 of the LGBT+ series which I’ll begin writing in November
COMPLETE Wave 1 timeline for the Space Opera series (still need to create a name for the series)
Now, I can begin writing the first installment of my LGBT+ series. Don’t worry, I will divulge the name of the series next week. But, for now, I need to get ready for my next gig and map out my writing schedule for December. Until then, farewell.

New Environment, Same Ambitions
Settling into Ohio is still a new concept for me. I mean, I’ve lived in Philadelphia for most of my life. Never known of anything else outside of the tristate area except for the occasional convention traveling and tournament hosting. So, Ohio is going to take a little of getting use to for me.
My first week in my new environment is coming to an end and it has already been a wicked whirlwind of excitement, annoyance and learning.
Starting off slow, my older brother and I had to endure a nine-hour car ride to Ohio. Now, think about this for a second: I have ADHD and my brother have ADD. So, you can imagine that we were having a hard time sitting still and staying focus which made the trip that much more entertaining. We even manage to make other people laugh when we had to stop for gas or food – which was often because I’m bit of an eater. When we finally got to Ohio, my new “boss”/friend met my brother and ended up taking a shining to him because of our shared humor. Luckily, my brother decided to stay the weekend with me because I wasn’t exactly ready to say “goodbye” just yet.
So, my time in Ohio, thus far, has been slow. However, this is only because my job/title in Premium Retail hasn’t transferred over, yet, so I can’t work which me with a little bit of cabin fever to overcome. Hopefully, I can start working next week because I really need stay mobile; there’s only so much writing I can do while staying in the house all day.
On the plus side, I’ve complete a multitude of outlines:
Twelve short stories for my Dimensions series (eight for Volume 2 & four for Volume 3)
Three outlines for my LGBT+ series (Crime, Romance & Trafficking)
Rest of the character roster for my Space Opera (I’ve yet to come up with a name for the series; hopefully, it’ll come to me since I still have a lot of work to do before writing the first book for it.)
As you probably tell, the LGBT+ series is going to get pretty dark before the light is found but the journey is going to delightful to write and read, nonetheless. I’m really excited for my series BUT I must to carefully when planning and mapping. That goes for all my series, I take great pride in my work.
As such, I won’t be able to relax while I’m at Grand Rapids Comic Con because I still got races and planets to outline and a timeline to formulate for the Space Opera series as well as run a Game Room and tournaments. But, I will TRY to have some fun in the process. Alas, such is the responsibilities and duties of a writer and an adult.

Back to Reality, Back to Work…with a Smile
Post-con depression is a harsh and reoccurring mental condition where reality set in after the end of the convention. The more enjoyable the con, the harsher the condition become; it’s very real and it happens to practically everyone. And let me tell you: Post-con depression hit me really hard after NYCC.
See, NYCC is one of my favorite convention that I was fortunate enough to work there for my sixth year. The atmosphere was overwhelmingly, and chaotically, delightful and everybody was so happy and bright. I couldn’t stop smiling while working/attending the convention. Best yet, and most importantly, the cosplays I’ve seen this year are something to marvel at. This year, I managed to snap over 450 pictures (my best, yet!). Furthermore, this year, I decided to add my top 10 favorite cosplay for Day 2 (Friday) and 3 (Saturday) on my Instagram account. If you want to see my favorite pictures, just click on the following link:
https://www.instagram.com/jpyfrom/ (Don’t worry, I’ll accept your request)
After coming back from NYCC, I was thrusted back in the writing world by my producer friend, Abraham, who wanted me to revise the pilot script for a TV series he’s trying to get greenlit. I think the industry term for the series is that it’s “In development”. It’s really interesting to hear him talk about the process of getting a tv series from paper to the small screen. The fact that he’s spend nearly three months connecting with other production companies and director to make it happen is a something to admire. I really hope that he manages to get the project through because this will be huge for his production company. Also, if you want to see more of my best mate’s work, just click on the following link:
(Abraham Dunmeyer’s IMDb page)
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClZOcMvMyn9QULCp-rDfWxg/featured (Abraham Dunmeyer’s YouTube Page)
Following my meeting with Abraham, I ended up meeting with an old high school buddy, Greg Jones, who is doing a wonderful job in flexing his directing muscle. I think he’s finally found his niche along with leading the charge with the Urban Jedi Knights group. So, I decided to take a pre-emptive approach for my aspiring Space Opera franchise, a series that will debut in either 2019 or 2020, and asked him to join in create a variety of short series for the franchise. Surprisingly, he leapt that the idea and we’re already in talk about how we want to formulate the series and what he wants to do from the ground up. Generally, the idea is to have a series outside of the book series that will share the same universe.
If this pans out how I want it, I will have a glorious network and a franchise of wonderful heroes and heroines that will benefit everybody in the long run. At least, that’s the plan, anyway.
Oh! Here’s the best part. ALL OF THIS had to be done BEFORE I left for Ohio today. My older brother drove me down there because I’m scared of flying. Although my brother is going to give me grief about my fear during the ride, he still very proud that I’m finally moving to a new environment. Immensely proud.
Now, you can three series (all of which I’ve created a strict writing schedule for) and two outside writing projects to add under my belt that might actually bear fruit. Things are actually looking up for me.
