The book I am currently working on is a sequel to my book, "ENTER (at your own risk)" so the main idea was there, but even a sequel is a book in itself. You may have a base for a book, but you must spend just as much time, energy and effort as if you were starting with a new idea. If you use a repetitional form of the first book, it is not a sequel, it is just a long drawn out story. It should be a new novel all to itself. The original idea for "ENTER" was standing in a line at the grocery store. There was a little table off to the side with a entry box marked, "WIN FREE GROCERIES." I watched a woman filling out an entry form for this promise of free food. She was leaning over the table giving her name, address, phone number and email address. As she was doing this a man went up behind her getting much to close for comfort. She felt his heavy presence and turned as if to ask, "hello, can I help you?" He moved back, but would not give her the space we need to feel comfortable. I told my husband, "Look at how close that guy is. It's like he is trying to get that womens address or something. Then of course my mind turned on and this story was born.(less)
