The Sexual Life Of Catherine M. by Catherine Millet

The Sexual Life of Catherine M. The Sexual Life of Catherine M. by Catherine Millet

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I found this frank but somewhat dispassionate book intermittently arousing and occasionally interesting. For the most part, though, I found it neither. It is an honest, unashamed, and - quite rightly - unapologetic memoir of the author's sexual adventures and preferences, but those looking for erotica and sensual detail, or indeed psychological insight, will probably be disappointed. The author even admits often to not feeling pleasure in her multiple sexual encounte
Millet has a background in journalism, and this comes through in her writing. It is not made into a 'story', though the recollections do add up into a narrative of sorts.

The Delta of Venus bu Anais Nin

Written by French-born novelist Anais Nin (1903-1977), some of the scenes in this collection of short stories and vignettes are shocking today for reasons aside from their frankness about sex - such as the one set in the Boys' Boarding School.
However, for the most part, they are lush and sensual, under a teasing veil of mystery. The stories' sense of the exotic is underlined by their varied locations across Paris, central Europe, and South America, but most of them have at their centre the importance of a woman gaining fulfilment from sex.

The Butcher by Alina Reyes

This book was published way back in 1995. I am trying to compile a list of other books that represent the sensually erotic and well written, and will post "my" list soon. But there is not enough of it. I am not against the 'fast food' of the erotic novella featuring cruel-lipped billionaires or frustrated "MILFs" any more than I am against someone snacking on a quick burger or pizza. And yet... a few more gourmet dinners would be nice, too.

The Butcher The Butcher by Alina Reyes

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is "my" type of erotica - very sensual, and well written. Poetic in style, you're carried along in the reverie. The sensuous build up of lust rising along with the summer heat in the length of those torrid afternoons is very evocative.
This is the sort of book that makes me feel the need for 'reclaiming' erotica and what it means from the current clutches of the 'tied up by a scornful billionaire' genre.
