Two Short Tales

A few updates to belatedly start the year with. The lockdown-inspired anthology Afraid of the Light spawned a Christmas edition  Afraid of the Christmas Lights , which came out in December and featured my Fiction Desk Writer's Award-winning short story Just Kids. This anthology includes guest entries from Mark Billingham and Sophie Hannah, and received great write-ups in the The Times and The Guardian. All proceeds are donated to a variety of charities supporting victims of domestic violence.

I'll...

Tales Dark and Light

It's been almost a year now since The Killer You Know was released here in the UK and in the US, and I'm really grateful for the kind words and reviews that readers having taken the time to share. In a world busy with books, it's never not wonderful to have someone choose old Killer McDebutface to occupy 14 or so hours of their short life on earth.

Some noteworthy occurrences:

Killer picked up some fun press reviews in the aftermath of the release. The Irish Independent featured it as...

The Killer is Loose

After a little wait following the ebook edition, The Killer You Know is now out in ALL editions in the UK and in the US following the release of the main paperback edition.

It’s in actual shops!

The book has had some fantastic write ups across a two week book tour here in the UK, and over in the US Publishers Weekly called it an “an arresting debut” and said “Masters is a writer to watch.”

The highlight of these last few weeks was undoubtedly the launch party, held at the wonderful Blackwells in...

A Thank You Gift and An Update

It's now just three months until paperback publication day in the UK and US. On May 2nd you'll be able to buy The Killer You Know in shops across the land (and not just in ebook and trade paperback form).

Since August 30th I've had so much support, for which I'm extremely grateful--particularly to those of you who took the time to do a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads. There really is nothing better than word of mouth when it comes to novels finding their way in the world, and reading people...

The Killer You Know: Out NOW On Ebook in the UK and the USA

Not much more to say than simply, It's Out!!!

It's been a long old journey from my first post here when I was dabbling with short stories, but finally my debut novel THE KILLER YOU KNOW is out on ebook through Sphere/Little, Brown in the UK and Redhook/Hachette in the USA.

If you like stories about amateur detectives, or murder, or the 90s, or pop culture, or reunions, or coming-of-age, or nostalgia, or romance, there might be something in this for you. And if you like all those things twisted...

Netgalley, US Cover and Interview: One Month to Go!

In under a month, the wonderful and exciting period of being a soon-to-be-published novelist ends and the first edition (ebook and trade paperback) will be out in both the UK and the US. If you want to read in advance and are registered with Netgalley, you can still get a proof copy from them until the end of the month in exchange for an honest review by clicking here.

I've now seen the US cover too, and I absolutely love it. Take a look!

The book's also been out in Poland for a month now...

Two Months Until the First Edition (and other news!)

There are just two months to go now until the first edition of my debut novel, The Killer You Know, is out here in the UK. Lots has been happening, so here is a swift catch up.

Extremely exciting: The Killer You Know will also be coming out in the USA at the same time as the two UK editions on Hachette imprint Redhook (Orbit)!!! I'll post something more about that once the US cover is finalised.

In other news, I am now officially a published novelist!

The Polish edition of Killer was released on...

The Killer You Know Cover Reveal

I'm really delighted to be able to share the cover of my debut novel The Killer You Know with you all. How to describe a moment like this, as a writer who submitted his first book to a publisher (with his own hand drawn cover) not long after he'd stopped toddling? (Totally got rejected by the way). Characters I imagined are standing there on the train track I made up. I can see Adeline. I can see Rupesh! And that's Blythe, a setting some of you who have read my short stories will know. I...
