Daily Readings in the Bible 2 Chronicles 18-20

Sometimes good people associate with bad people. That’s the short story of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah. Under Jehoshaphat’s leadership Judah experienced growth and blessing. He was devoted to the God of Israel, and even removed the high places out of reverence to Him. The king of Judah had the priests teach the people from the Law (2 Chr. 17:7-9).

Though Judah encountered revival during Jehoshaphat’s reign, he made the mistake of getting involved with the wrong kinds of people. He visited Ahab, k...

Daily Readings in the Bible 2 Chronicles 13-17

Salt is produced from the combination of two of the most deadly chemicals known to man — sodium, an unstable metal that can burst into flame if exposed to air or water, and chlorine, one of the deadliest gases. When these two deadly chemicals are combined they produce sodium chloride, also known as common table salt. Salt is the only known rock that humans consume.

The word “salt” comes from the Latin word “sal,” which means salt. Salt was once a valuable commodity, and it was used as a currency...

Daily Readings in the Bible 2 Chronicles 9-12

Some Bible commentators calculate that the Queen of Sheba traveled close to 1,500 miles just to visit Solomon. Upon her arrival she observed Solomon’s splendid kingdom, and servants. She then had her questions answered and the secrets of her heart revealed by Solomon (2 Chr. 9:1-6).

Notice, if you will, the verbs used to describe the queen. She “heard”; she “came”; she “communed”; she “seen”; she “said”; she “gave”; and she “turned and went away.” Her long trip to see Solomon would not be wasted...

Daily Readings in the Bible 2 Chronicles 6-8

Solomon prayed at the dedication of the Temple. At the conclusion of his prayer, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the house. The priests couldn’t enter into the Temple, due to the glory of the Lord. The children of Israel bowed down in reverence and worship at the sight of the fire and the glory.

The Lord appeared unto Solomon by night, and spoke unto him. The Lord said, “If I shut up heaven that there be no rain...

Daily Readings in the Bible 2 Chronicles 1-5

“And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods” (2 Chr. 2:5). That was Solomon’s pronouncement as the building of the Temple commenced. David left Solomon the plans and the material to erect this great house. This wasn’t going to be a monument built as a memorial for David. On the contrary, this was a house built to the Name of the Lord God! The Temple would a place for sacrifices, prayer, and worship.

As we read 2 Chronicles 1-5, we should note that the Temple wasn’t...

Daily Readings in the Bible 1 Chronicles 28-29

At the conclusion of David’s life he gave a final charge to Solomon, his heir apparent. David had amassed a wealth of material for the future Temple. David said, “Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the brass for things of brass, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood; onyx stones, and stones to be set, glistering stones, and of divers colours, and all manner of precious s...

Daily Readings in the Bible 1 Chronicles 25-27

Chapter 24 enumerates the twenty-four classes of priests that would serve in the future Temple. Each priest and man had a place and purpose to serve within the Temple. Chapter 25 lists the members of the musical staff. These people sang, and played before the Lord. One man, however, stands out from our reading today.

“All these were sons of Heman the king’s seer. They were given him through the promises of God to exalt him. God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters. All these men were ...

From the Pasture to the Palace

Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel: And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth (2 Samuel 7:8-9).

Daily Readings in the Bible 1 Chronicles 22-24

Though David wasnt able to build a house for the Lord, he did everything in his power to get the materials and make preparations for the future structure. David insured Solomons success, though David would never see it. Dave said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the Lord must be exceeding magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it (1 Chr. 22:5).

Paul wrote, [F]or the children ought not to...

Why Did God Create?

The question has been asked, Why did God create? This question is connected to other questions such as: If God has foreknowledge, then why would He create if He knew humanity would sin? These are not easy questions to answer. Furthermore, these are not easy questions to ask if you consider yourself a Christian. If we come up with the wrong answer, then it could disrupt our faith. If we answer biblically, however, we can bolster our faith.

Gods Purpose for Creating

The Bible opens and...
