2015 stretching out in front of us....
And on New Year's Day I woke up at 10 am....
(well, after getting to bed somewhere around 2am and waking up at 6am to feed and shoot the cats, so it really wasn't THAT much sleep...)
While part of me is sorry not to have been part of Party Central last night (I live within the immediate area of the fireworks display), I'm not sorry to have seen the new year in with my Seattle-area family.
And now - after I inform Boomer that leftover whitefish salad is NOT for kittens - I will finish the post-party-prep cleanup, and get down to the business of the day, which is indeed the business of the year.
First: to get the #willwrite2feedothers story posted.
Second: to kick the things still waiting on the Sylvan Investigations novellas and put them into production. Okay, that may have to wait until the 2nd, because New Year's Day, and the minions negotiated it off. I'm such pushover.
Past today? Foremost in my mind is that SILVER ON THE ROAD will be published in 2015.
I have no idea how that's gonna go. Obviously, I hope it knocks my career up another notch or three, but.... well. Publishing is a crapshoot where you play with someone else's dice on a randomly-moving table. All you have is that one throw....
So yeah, this is also going to be the year I actually, actively promote a project to the point of possibly annoying people who read my social media regularly. I apologize in advance for that, and enlist your help - the wider news of the new book spreads (with anticipation/glee attached, natch), the less I have to do here.
More on that to come. Also the follow-up, as I write it.
Second and equal in my mind: settling into Seattle. This is an experiment as well as an adventure, and pretty much without an outline, blueprint or schedule. Updates as they happen, both here and in the Book View Cafe blog-series (the next one will be up this week).
Third, is to fill the rest of my editorial slots for the year (there are 8 left). That's a B plot, but an important one. So if you think you might want to dance, it's time to put your name down on my card... (is that too aged a reference? Tough, I'm keeping it).
And for the rest.... well, we'l see how it all goes. There are a bunch of new projects in the planning stages. Some require a publisher to get on board, some will be done via Book View Cafe, some require publishers getting off-board, as it were.
No resolutions, but a lot of plans. And I keep writing, writing, writing...
How does 2015 look from your side of the screen?

Last Day/First Night
I was raised a Jew: I measure things from sunset to sunset. Today is the last day of 2014, but tonight is the first night of 2015.
2014 was...mostly a year of waiting and planning. But it was also a year of waiting and planning toward a purpose: a new city, a new series, a new... something I'm not sure yet, still gently nibbling around the edges.
And that's about all I have to say. I don't do year-end roundups: the year is done, the days are gone, the chances grasped have become future goals, the opportunities lost are mist, the day stretches ahead and only shadows lay behind. Etc.
That's not to say I'm not remembering 2014: I am and I do and I will, it's the building block for what comes. But there's no need for me to revisit it in essay form.
I may look back to where I've been, but I walk forward.
So what's up ahead? Well, that's a post for tomorrow. :-)
May you all see the year out/in in health and happiness.
(and for those of you timezone travelers, may 2015 have started well!)

L'air de Panache
Finally watching "The Grand Budapest Hotel." Yep, everything I was warned about. In fact, if they'd thought about how to make a movie Just For Me, if might have been this.
Perfection.
Perfection.

Stressing over the start
The original outline for TDW#2 opens with Izzy on her own, her companions meeting up with her later. Story-wise, this makes absolute sense, and would tie in with how I left things at the end of SILVER ON THE ROAD.
But.
But. Is that really a good move, story-wise? Wouldn't it make more sense, having found companions, that at this stage in her life she'd cleave to them? (which would also tie in with how I left things at the end of SILVER ON THE ROAD). And maybe the NEXT book, open on her own?
I'm dithering. And until I decide, I can't move forward. Which is making me all sorts of cranky.
And how we open determines much of how we go on, so I can't half-ass it with the idea of revising, later (it may come to that, but I can't start with that mindset).
argh.
Feedback, from a) people who read SILVER and b) anyone who feels comfortable commenting blind?

*snarl*
Momma meerkat is feeling particularly irritated tonight: some of the more vulnerable (mostly female, mostly young) members of SPN fandom are getting a spate of anon hatemail, particularly on Tumblr. For the most part they're rallying - supported by friends and total strangers. But the fact that anyone thinks this is... I don't know WHAT they think it is, if they think it's okay, or that it makes them clever, or particularly brilliantly vicious.
Sending hatemail for lulz, especially when you deliberately target people who've been open and upfront about battles with depression, makes you nothing but pathetic. Or, in the parlance: too low to kick and too slimy to step on.
But not too low or slimy for a meerkat to chew up and spit out, if they get within reach.

BVC Boxing Week Sale!
Got a new ereader? Got an old ereader? Time to load that sucker up...
And my epic fantasy novella (with sea serpents! And wine!) "From Whence You Came" is 50% off!
“A thoughtful examination of the consequences of magic; stands alone and away from its progenitor series well. Getting to see a legendary hero as a real and flawed person is a strong technique, and the author takes full advantage of that…..” — SF SIgnal
(and remember: all books sold through BVC support the writer directly...and are NOT device-specific.)

hrmmmmm
I had many non-Christmas-celebrating plan-options today, ranging from productive to energetic. The idea of curling on the sofa and reading fanfic all day is starting to gain traction, though....

And we're off...
First line (for now) of DEVIL'S WEST #2:
"They'd left nothing alive."
We're entering with a bang, as it were.
