Busy as bees.

Research. It’s awesome.

But it means there isn’t always a lot of time for blogging.  However, I was kindly invited to be a guest blogger for this week’s Fiction Reboot, so I hope you’ll visit them and read my post, “Monster or Victim?

Enjoy!

Learning Curve

First things first: Hic Dragones is giving away two copies of The Tattooed Wolf on Goodreads, and I invite you to follow the link on the right sidebar and sign up.  Go ahead. I’ll wait.

…whistles a merry tune…

You’re back? Excellent!

Because I love books*, I joined Goodreads back in 2011, but I never really did anything with it. I love playing with social media and connecting with people, but I never invested the time or got the hang of Goodreads – I already have physical pen-to-paper lists of books to read, and only so many years left to live, and I wasn’t sure if I needed a virtual list, too. However, because of the giveaway, I decided to update my page and put a recent picture there… spruce it up, dust off my list of books read, etc.

After making the page look pretty, I sat back to make sure it looked presentable. My heart sank.  It looked good, but oh, the saddest saddest saddest thing caught my eye: I’d clearly been on Goodreads for 3 years, and had a total of 2 friends.

Oh, how tragic.

Here we are a few hours later, and I have a few more friends now and renewed a few connections, and I’m starting to learn how Goodreads works. But I’d love to hear more: if you’re on Goodreads, what do you like about it? Do you participate in the forums, or share lists? Have you discovered new books, new authors, and new ideas?

Happy reading, and if you’ve joined the giveaway, good luck!

* oh, you already knew that? How did you guess?!?!

Isn’t It Ironic? Or Maybe It Is? (Alanis mixed me up on these things)

You know how I was complaining about the lack of clear skies yesterday? So I said I’d keep looking down, focus more on the ground? I believe my exact quote was, “firmly rooting both my feet and my interests to the earth.”

About an hour after writing that little statement, we had a 6.7 magnitude earthquake.  Since last night, there have been three or four aftershocks. Shimmy shake!!!

So here are a few sites to keep me happy as I look down, rather than up:

Earthquakes Canada – hey! First page! There we are!

LiveScience - lots of science about all sorts of things, but this is the page that has my interest today.

Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre – relevant in these here parts.
