Badass of the Week
At the Olympic Airshow in Olympia, WA, illegally parked cars get towed. By a helicopter. And dropped from great heights.

Here's some video from the 2009 show.

What to Do with an Abandoned Cement Mixer
Abandoned cement mixer uglying a roadside near you? Here's an idea from Winganon, Oklahoma, where a cement truck rolled over on the side of the road fifty years ago. The owner retrieved the truck, but left the mixer because it was full of heavy concrete.

Recently, a local couple used some cans, garden hose and other things they had around the house to turn it into a space capsule. The result:

Wonder if, within the next fifty years, a couple of Winganonians will figure out how to get it into space.

The Truth about the UFO in China
This flying saucer photo, taken the other day in Shandong province and now making the rounds of UFO conspiracy sites, is 100% legit. Not a single pixel Photoshopped. But it's an incomplete picture—literally. Scroll down to see why.

In fact the "saucer" is an 1,798,000-LB containment dome being hoisted onto a new reactor at the Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant in east China's Shandong province.

The next question is how are they hoisting a 1,798,000-LB containment dome? 1,798,000-LBs is the approximate weight of four 103-foot Titan II rockets. Alien technology?

Third Grade Project
"I got this off the Internet, Dad. My idea is to have one that shoots out even more blue fire. You just need to get a 3-D printer to print it out and call that Skunk Works guy you know to make us an engine. Have him FedEx it here ’cause this is due tomorrow. And we probably need to get a booster seat."

Here's the answer to question posed in headline:
The P-38 is way too small. Photographer wasted way too much space on sky/sun.

Identify this UFO and Win a Book
The first of the following fireball photos is legit, taken by a NASA satellite early yesterday morning. The other photos, allegedly taken by people in the Southern United States, were posted online at the same time, supporting their authenticity. The question here is: What's in them?

Next, two quick videos, way better than the usual could-have-been-a-Frisbee blurs on UFO vids. [Source is the American Meteor Society, which we'll get to in a few seconds]
The American Meteor Society received over 150 such reports from people in Georgia, Bama and the Carolinas. Whatever it is was going 14,500 mph, which is pedestrian by the standards of meteors, which average 160,000 mph. Hence NASA officials speculated that Russian SL-6 Rocket parts—from the Cosmos 2196 missile early warning system—reentering the atmosphere. As such space junk breaks apart, it indeed creates fireballs, according the American Meteor Society. But is it just me, or does "Russian SL-6 Rocket parts from the Cosmos 2196 missile early warning system" have a little too much specificity for speculation about space junk. Is this the 21st century version of "It was just a weather balloon"?
Use the form below to share your theory, if you have one. If it turns out you're right, or your response is otherwise good, you may win a free copy of one of my books.
