Indie Advent Day 3: Farview by Kim Fielding

THIS BEAUTIFUL BOOK IS AVAILABLE HERE
I still don’t have the words to describe this book. Part romance, part fantasy, and all incredibly warm and magical and wonderful. Set in a land something like the British Isles, Farview follows Oliver, a young man who leaves the city for a coastal town where he can live in solitude for a while and come to terms with the fact he is dying of a prolonged illness.
His intent to live a hermit-like existence in the tiny cottage atop a sea-wind kissed cliff, called Farview, is foiled by the villagers who take him under their wing like one of their own–and by handsome storyteller Felix, who regales Oliver with fantastic tales which may or may not be true, but distract Oliver from his imminent mortality in more ways than one.
Magic is the mundane in this world, from dragon-drawn coaches to delicate little imps who beg at the doorstep for scraps. But neither Oliver nor Felix are ready for the kind of magic they discover together, and both their lives are forever changed.

Indie Advent Day 2: The Stark Divide by J. Scott Coatsworth

The Stark Divide is a space opera on the level of David Brin’s Heart of the Comet in this first book of J. Scott Coatsworth’s Liminal Sky: The Ariadne Cycle series.
The world building is phenomenal. Living ships created to travel the stars with sustainable resources are the center of the story. Colin McAvery is the common thread throughout this book, and he is a compelling character who propels many of the events.
Coatsworth has assembled a cast of characters- human and AI- who leap from the page and make you care for them.
The story is told in a series of vignettes with significant time passage in between each section. We meet McAvery first as the captain of the ship towing the “seed” of the ship which, once planted on an asteroid, will grow and become a self-sustaining, life supporting entity, like an artificial planetoid. But the artificial intelligence destined for this seed grows far beyond anything dreamed of by its creators.
This living ship and others like it will become the last hope of the survivors of a war-torn planet Earth. The rest of the series is just as good. Read this book!

Indie Advent Day 1: Dragon Mage by M.L. Spencer
Alex Arch, one of the other authors at SFF Oasis, came up with a fabulous idea to highlight indie books we’ve read and loved through the month of December. I’m always up for talking about books! Some of the ones I will feature I’ve mentioned before on the blog, but good books are good books, no?
Indie authors work very hard because we are a one-person team. We not only write the books, but market them. Any time we can gush over a great book by another indie author and get the word out is helpful. My favorite indie books feature all kinds of representation: LGBTQ, neurodivergence, mental illness, disabilities, and more.
So on day 1 of Indie Advent, I’m choosing to spotlight a book that supercharged my eternal love of epic fantasy: Dragon Mage by M.L. Spencer!

BUY THIS AMAZING BOOK HERE
OMG. My little fantasy-loving heart is going pitter pat.
This book seriously rocked my world. It’s been a long time since I read an epic fantasy that had me so absolutely invested in the characters, the magic system, the world building…DRAGON MAGE had everything I wanted and even a few things I didn’t know I needed.
Aram is the odd child in the village, out of step and different. Markus protects him from the village bullies and so begins a friendship of legend: one that will sustain them, and ultimately allow them to stand together against the forces of evil. Aram has the potential to become the most powerful magic user in centuries, but he has to survive long enough to face his Trials–and Markus is the one who has to make sure he stays a step ahead of an evil wizard order who want to drain Aram of his powerful magical essence and use it to fuel their own dire spells.
Holy heck. Dragons. Dragonriders. Mages and warriors. Creepy as hell beasts from the void, charismatic villains and heroes abound. I love the world Spencer has built, full of magical creatures and brave people of all genders who fight side by side and love who they love with the fire of a thousand suns. I can’t wait for the next book to see what is in store for Aram and Markus.

Beast of the Dead – a new Werewolf Whisperer novella

I am totally hooked on this series by Bonita Gutierrez and Camilla Ochlan. The great pun in the title just makes it all the more fun. This Día de los Muertos-themed novella is a great read just in time for the Halloween season.
This little novella takes place immediately after the last Werewolf Whisperer book, so no spoilers, but it is a flashback adventure as well. When Xochi’s beloved muscle car, El Gallo, is stolen, she remembers the first time the car was jacked during a job she and Lucy worked in their early Were-wrangling days. It has all the grit and drama and werebeast-ness I have come to love in these urban fantasy books. My knowledge of Spanish profanity is also taking a huge leap forward thanks to Xochi’s colorful expletives and the handy glossaries included in the books, LOL.
Honestly, if you haven’t read this series, check out my review of The Werewolf Whisperer HERE on the blog, pick it up, and hang on with tooth and claw.

Third Front Release Day: Dedication and Acknowledgements

Today, as is my tradition, I celebrate those without whom my book would be less in so many ways.
DEDICATION
For my mother
Sandy Warner
1944-2022
who encouraged my love of reading from an early age,
and supported my dreams until the end.
Love you forever.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Coming to the end of this story arc is a bittersweet thing. Dalí will have more stories to tell, probably in novella form.
So many people supported me through all this. Thank you to my writing family, especially Jem Zero, cheerleader and critique partner through the entire process of this third book. Thank you to my alpha readers from the beginning, Mark Millham and Ashley Miller, and the mutual support community of Writers Refuge headed by the disgustingly talented Sarah Chorn. My beta reader Janean Dobos was here for the whole series, and Jessica Smith took on the challenge with Third Front. Thank you, a million times.
I want to extend my gratitude to Keshav Kant, my sensitivity consultant, for her insight into the Hijra community and spirituality and encouraging me to bring more of this rich culture into the story.
A standing ovation to Justin R. Gibson, who finally gave Dalí a voice via audiobook after all this time.
Kudos and huge hugs to Jami Nord and Evan MacGregor at Chimera Editing. Jami, my developmental editor and friend, thank you for your support, professional advice, and guidance through the series.
Thank you to artist JCaleb Designs for three brand new, gorgeous, exciting covers.
It was important to me to have Dalí come from a loving, supportive family. I was lucky to grow up in one. Not all of us in the LGBTQ+ community are. Paul Tamareia and Marina Urquhart are much like my parents were: loving, irreverent, and entirely supportive of their children. I want to express my thankfulness here, both for them and for my in-laws, who raised an exceptional human.
I am in awe of my children, Kylan, Gabriel, and Jayden, and Mark, my life partner of nearly thirty years, for making dinner and doing laundry for me while I worked full time as a nurse, finished my BSN, survived quarantine without maiming each other, AND put up with me writing this series for the last six years.
And last, but most ardently, I am thankful for all of you, who read Dalí and asked for more.

Dali Paperback Link
If anyone is trying to obtain the paperback with the new cover artwork, it isn’t the one linked to the Kindle and audio versions. It’s defaulting to the old version because it’s been on Amazon longer, and it can’t be taken down until the used books are sold, is what I’m being told. I’m still trying to reach someone who can help me correct this error (because Peacemaker shows correctly).
In the meantime, here is the direct link to the new paperback: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1732457530

The Dalí Audiobook is HERE!
I have an audioboooooookAt long last, my incredible narrator/producer Justin Gibson gave Dalí a voice. His audition blew me away with his emotional performance of a scene between Dalí and Gor, and then Dalí and Rhix. I was immediately sold. During the course of recording the novel, Justin has made me cry, laugh, and turn completely red-faced at hearing my spicier scenes read out loud for the first time.
I’m so very happy Justin has agreed to record all three books. You can find Dalí on Audible HERE.
