The door to the New York fashion world shut firmly in her face, Moriah Stanhope’s only option seems to be to return to her small-town home as a failure. At least, she would go home in disgrace, but her car was just repossessed. In front of the hottest guy she’s ever seen.
Travis Madera is supposed to hire an assistant. One with qualifications and experience. Someone who won’t be starstruck by the fact he’s a professional football player. But he never could resist a damsel in distress, especially one with all those curves.
Moriah’s been humiliated in front of guys like Travis before. But as his assistant, she has access to every moment of his day-to-day life, so surely she can stay ahead of any potential problems.
Until the past comes rushing into the present.

“Travis…” I whispered, half questioning-half pleading.
He jerked his hand away and sat up straight on the couch. “I’m sorry, Moriah. I didn’t even realize—”
I placed my fingers against his mouth, the heat of his breath rushing across the digits. My touch was so sudden, it surprised even me. His lips were warm and oh so kissable. My pulse hammered away against my ribs, desire blazing through me. I would have kissed him, but Travis was completely still, his face an unreadable mask.
When he didn’t react, I pulled away. I’d made a mistake, misread his touch, something. Panic turned to sheer horror. “Oh my God, I’m sorry.”
His hard exterior softened and he grabbed my hand. He sighed a bit, half-closed his eyes, then brushed his lips across the tips of my fingers in the softest kiss.
I relaxed a little.
“When you touch me, it makes me want things I can’t afford.” I offered weakly, not trusting myself to say much more.
From behind thick lashes, his eyes darkened; an intimate change of his features that spoke to me in a truly primal way. He kissed my fingertips, stroked his hand down my wrist and back up before rubbing small circles against the beat of my pulse.

Blog Tour: PLEASE, THANK YOU, AND EXCUSE ME by Ashley Chadwick

the lost art of mannerisms
Children's Book
Date Published: April 5, 2023
Publisher: Mindstir Media
Cori Elba (Illustrator)

When your children are learning to speak, it can come out and grunts, screams, or yells.
This can make it hard to understand them. To help them through this tough time, start by getting on their level. Look them in the eyes and reassure them that it is okay to get frustrated. Then ask them to use their words with please, thank you, and excuse me. These three basic phrases set a foundation for the language you will share between you and your child. Just remember… Repeat, repeat, repeat. Stay with their consistent repetition. You might grow tired of it, but to your two-year-old, it’s the routine they need to develop.
Politeness is spoken worldwide and in every language, whether in public or private. The simplicity of kindness teaches that everyone matters in this world. These three children's books (“Please, Thank You and Excuse Me,” “Listen, Share, and Be Nice,” and “Animal Etiquette for Kids”) are lighthearted and geared for all ages. Mannerisms must start somewhere, so why not parents, grandparents, teachers, friends, and caregivers show our children mutual respect for all people, places, and things?
This series of children's books is a fun way to re-introduce manners into your children's lives. It's cool to be polite and kind to everyone.

Review: This book is your brief guide tothe concepts of PLEASE, THANK YOU, and EXCUSE ME. The kid explains thedefinition and includes examples of use. The illustrations were adorablealthough I kind of wish there would’ve been more color.
A cute guide and a good lesson forkids! It’s never too early to learn the courtesy of manners. A recommendedbook.

Review: WAR AND PEAS by Jonathan Junz and Elizabeth Pich

Funny little Bizarro-style comicson life with clever puns. Loved the colorful, little doodles. Enjoyed most ofthem. The humor is sort of dark and wry, but it’s so fitting to life ingeneral.
Nice blend of comedy, horror, andsex. Good for a laugh.

Review: BAD SISTER by Charisse Harper

It’s hard being the good sisterwhen you’ve been replaced by the new baby. Of course, it wasn’t always aboutbeing the big sister. At first, it was all about how she was the protector ofthe cat. In fact, sometimes it was a little too much about the cat. But soon westart to pick on the little brother and that’s how she gets to become a badsister.
The doodles were cute andcolorful, but some of the text was a little blurry and hard to read.
An okay read.

Review: THE GIRAFFE WHO FOUND HIS SPOTS by Adisan Books

It’s hard being a giraffe—to stickout wherever you go. No matter what he did, no one wanted to be his friendbecause he was different. Poor thing. The giraffe was just too tall. Being tallwas something that I could relate to. But one good thing about being tall wasbeing able to reach the high stuff, which was something the giraffe was able todo for his new friends.
A great story about being yourselfand accepting who you are.

Blog Tour: WESTERN JUSTICE by Dean L. Hovey

Western Justice
by Dean L. Hovey
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Mystery
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
When human remains are found at the Vore BuffaloJump, the short-staffed local sheriff’s department requests assistance fromPark Service Investigators Doug and Jill Fletcher.
ATV tracks lead the investigators to thevictim’s boots and a hunting blind constructed on the edge of the Black HillsNational Forest. With more questions than answers the Fletchers find themselvespulled into the community dynamics of tiny Aladdin (population 15) where thecafé and general store are the hub of information for the county.
The surprising identification of the victim onlyopens more questions about him, and his connection to the location of hismurder. When the Fletchers follow up on the few leads provided by John Doe’sidentification, they unwittingly open a can of worms.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
Drawing a sharp breath, she reached into her back pocket forher cell phone. Punching 911 into the keypad, she waited two rings before thedispatcher answered. “Crook County emergency services. How can I assist you?”
Having not considered what she was going to say when thephone was answered, Peggy stated what came to her mind. “I’m looking at a deadbody. Could you send someone over to fetch it?”
“Is the body human?”
Peggy cocked her head to examine details that became cleareras he eyes adjusted to the shadows behind the building. “It appears so.”
“You can’t tell?” The dispatcher asked.
“It’s complicated. It’s kind of tangled in some brushpartway up a hill.”
“Do you need an ambulance?”
“No, this soul is well past the ambulance stage.”
“Where are you, ma’am?”
“I’m standing behind the Vore Buffalo Jump Museum building.”
“Where exactly is that?”
“It’s along the interstate, between the Beulah and Aladdinexits.”
“I’ll dispatch a deputy to your location. The nearestofficer is in Hulett, so it might take him the better part of a half hour toget there, if he’s through with lunch.”
“There’s no rush. Whoever this is, isn’t going anywhere.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What makes this book different from other books in thisgenre?
I created the Doug Fletcher series after creating the verydark “Pine County mystery” and the cozy “Whistling Pines mystery” series. Withthe Fletcher series. I decided to take the readers to some of the more obscureNational Park Service locations across the United States, with characters whoare professionals, but not really cops, who deal with murders and deaths, butnot in a terribly gruesome way. My protagonists’ job is investigation of crimesin National Parks, most often cold cases, or cases where the small park servicesites lack resources to conduct an investigation. Doug Fletcher, who is marriedto his partner, Jill, shuns the spotlight and views his role as supporting thelocal law enforcement people.
For instance, Park Service investigators don’t usuallyarrest suspects, they provide broad perspective and experience to local lawenforcement agencies. The local police make the arrests, and announce solutionof the case, usually while Doug and Jill are reluctantly in the background, orflying back to their home base in Texas.
I like using wry humor, usually resulting from the banterbetween Jill and Doug, as they work through the investigation. I take theFletchers to the Black Hills frequently because that’s where Jill’s familyranch is located. The family dynamics are fun as Jill’s family wrestle with thefact that their daughter, who grew up in rural South Dakota, has married adivorced “city kid” who hates horses. Doug’s dealing poorly with horses is arecurring theme, with him being knocked off, falling off, being terrorized byriding after a suspect at a gallop, and being scared to the point of wettinghis pants.
As far as I can determine, Doug and Jill Fletcher are one ofthe very few married pairs of investigators since Nick and Nora Charles were inthe 1930s “Thin Man” series.
A reader wrote in an Amazon review, “Dean creates charactersI’d like to invite over for a beer and conversation.” I try to make themprofessional, but human and vulnerable, too.
Editorialreview snippets:
Another great book that I couldn't put down. The dialogbetween Jill and Doug is so much fun and the mystery is always interestingleaving me anxiously waiting for the next book! – Linda J.
The pace is riveting, and grabs you from the start. You willgreatly enjoy your experience with these two best friends. Highly recommended. – Greg P.
Another great story, how many different stories do you havesaved in your head Dean??? Thanks, I enjoyed reading this one as much as I haveall the others. – Kathy W-B.
Excerpt from “Western Justice”
“I don’t know if you remember me, but this is HankStoddard. I’m the Crook County sheriff, in Wyoming.”
“I remember you, Sheriff. Have you had any shootoutslately?” Doug asked.
After a chuckle, Stoddard replied, “Well, we haven’t hadto shoot anyone, but a body was found on a National Park Service site. I waswondering if you and Jill happened to be in the neighborhood and would bewilling to take a look at it.”
“I’m in Texas right now. But you’ve intrigued me. Did youhave another person fall at Devils Tower?”
“A volunteer found a body in Vore Buffalo Jump when theywere cleaning up for the tourist season opening.”
I searched the recesses of my mind and vaguely rememberedseeing a sign for the historic site but couldn’t recall the location. “Where isthe buffalo jump?”
“It’s just west of Beulah, Wyoming, within sight ofI-90.”
“That’s just across the border from South Dakota, right?”
“That would be the spot. I was hoping you were visitingyour South Dakota in-laws and might be willing to take a peek at the mess thatwas once a person.”
“Let me make a couple of calls, Sheriff. We may need tomake an unexpected trip to Spearfish.”
“I’d be mighty appreciative if you could make thathappen. This death is strange. The coroner and I have stewed over this a lot.It appears the victim was dragged across the prairie like a horse thief, thendumped at the buffalo jump site at some point over the winter.”
“Dragged like a horse thief?”
“Dragging a horse thief across the prairie was calledwestern justice.”

"Poetry: writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound, and rhythm."
"Poetry: a literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm."
Poetry means different things to different people. For me, it is all about feelings. If it captures the emotions of the reader, a poem will resonate and fill the soul. It can mean everything to one person and not much at all to another. The mood of the reader, and no one else, determines the outcome.
For example, love poems are wonderful when you are in love, and their passion is amazing. If you are facing adversity, however, love poems likely will just annoy you.
In this second book, Poetry from my Heart: The Journey Continues, I have again divided the poems into categories which will fit your mood no matter what you are experiencing at the time you choose to explore them. There should be something for everyone, whether you are in love, out of love, hurt, lonely, angry, abandoned, or facing other challenges in your life.
Poetry has a healing power that nurtures the soul and quietens the mind and so I hope that whatever your situation is in life, you have found something here that helped you safely on your own journey.

The green hills of Ireland
The green hills of Ireland are calling to me
I hear their soft whisper wherever I roam
No matter whether on land or on sea
The green hills of Ireland keep calling me home
I lived in old Ireland as a young lad you see
And I left my heart there on some mossy hillside
Now I yearn to go back to set my heart free
And awaken a dream I can no longer hide
For I love your high mountains and windy seashore
Your hills and your streams rolling down to the sea
And I long to go home to my lost land of yore
And return to the Irish that’s deep within me
Now sheep in the pastures are calling to me
From the craggy rock walls that keep them inside
While the streams that run down from the mountains so free
Speak sparkling with hope and a joy they can’t hide
I long for the ocean on the Wild Atlantic Way
And the crazy coast road that winds in and out
And the sea breeze that whispers I hope you will stay
And the people all happily wandering about
I remember the old priory standing in ruins
Near Castletownroche with its bridge and its mill
I recall all the pubs with their loud Irish tunes
And my mind wanders back where my soul lingers still
I miss all the people so friendly and kind
With their musical language and soft Irish smiles
How they welcomed me home with a grace so refined
That I felt their great love from thousands of miles
The green hills of Ireland keep calling to me
Come home now we’re waiting to see you once more
For you know in your heart it’s the place you must be
So return again Irish to your green land of yore

There were overhead cranes that slid on the metal tracking in the ceiling running the distances of the corridors. I was not sure why, but my gut was telling me there was something really strange going on. Something wasn’t right, I really felt like I was in danger. We were walking in a large group and being a Prospect I was at the back of the pack. Although I was walking, I became scared something was wrong. I didn't even have a gun with me. This was supposed to be a peaceful patch-over.
Then it happened, the shooting started. There were muzzle flashes all over the place. It appeared that we were surrounded and the guys were being shot and were dropping everywhere. Some of the guys were trying to return fire, but the shots appeared to be coming from everywhere.
I suddenly observed these strange metal objects rolling around with guns shooting at us. Something was killing us and there was blood everywhere. Suddenly these metal walls started falling from the roof, blocking doorways and corridors herding us into areas, to be slaughtered.
I had taken cover behind a large metal shelf and I heard somebody yelling at me to climb up the ladder to the roof. I looked over to the right and two corridors over someone else was climbing up another ladder to the roof.
I looked again and the guys were still being slaughtered. Out of fear and self preservation I climbed the ladder as fast as I could. Although I was afraid of heights I was more scared about being shot and killed.
I periodically glanced down and it was so strange, those mechanical things were still rolling around firing shots at everyone. I got to the top of the ladder and saw that there was a metal platform to stand on. I stood on the platform and I glanced down to where the other guy had climbed to. He had pushed some type of button and suddenly he went shooting down the corridor ceiling on some type of overhead crane track out of sight.
I saw some buttons on the adjacent panel and l pushed the green button. Holy shit! I went flying down the ceiling. It was a fast ride, like I was almost travelling through time. It appeared to have taken me thousands of feet in a few seconds. Then suddenly I stopped and I looked around. Off in the distance I still saw these weird metal walls dropping from the ceiling. They were blocking corridors and exits. They were still isolating the guys into smaller areas, to be slaughtered.
I then saw the adjacent guy diving into a room just before a metal wall blocked his exit. The large metal wall came down fast, then slowed for a few seconds before locking into the other metal wall. I looked to my left and saw a strange thing. There was a group of people all dressed in white coloured laboratory coats, rushing around in a room that had a large window overlooking the warehouse.
I was concerned that a metal wall was going to come down and that I was going to be trapped so I decided that I had to jump through the window and escape into that room. I took a few steps and jumped through the window as a metal wall started to come down. Shit!, I was going to be squashed and I was going to lose my legs. At the last second I was able to lift both my legs out of the way, while flipping over on my back. With a clang the metal wall crashed down.
I was laying on my back trying to figure out what the fuck was going on when I saw an Asian girl approaching me. She said, “Hi Rick, I’m Irene and I’m glad you were able to get out in time. You have to come with me now.”
“What the hell is going on?” I managed to ask.
She looked at me, “I will explain everything to you in a few minutes but we have to get decontaminated right away.” She turned and started walking. “Follow me, stay close and do what I do.”

Review: BITTER PAST by Caroline Fardig

**2nd Time Review **
“No body farm, no way! Not ever,not today!”
That was the picket slogan amongthe student body protesting a body farm at the college.
Ellie Matthews was a criminologyprofessor at the college and future assistant of the body farm. When touringthe old clown park—AKA future site of the body farm—they find their first body,which belonged to one of the student protesters.
Of course, Ellie’s colleague,Cooper, was suspected of the murder since it was his property and especiallysince he had an affair with the student last semester. Somehow Ellie getsdragged back into forensic field work, especially when a second student isfound dead. Were the two deaths linked?
The mystery was alluring andEllie’s witty and sassy tone just brings the story to life. The scientific andforensic jargon can get a little too specific and too daunting. After some timeof this, the read becomes long and slow at times. I would’ve preferred thechapters to be shorter. The read was honestly going strong with my rating of 4stars, but the length and pace of it brought it down to 3.5 stars. The bestpart was how it all boiled down to a good ending, which made this a good readfor me. I’ll definitely check out the rest of this author’s books. I’m glad Igave this book a 2nd review.
