The next few lives on Earth were more of the same thing.Kaleb and I would concentrate on finding each other before we would leave here.Then, after some years would pass on Earth, we would. Not once did we miss.Every first greeting was basically the same. The second we would get closeenough to each other down there, that’s when the acrobatics would start. Wewould slam right into each other, bump our heads together, tripping andflipping over one another every single time. Always somehow causing one of us—mainlyme—if not both of us, to die.
No matter how far apart they placed us on Earth, Kaleb and Iwould find each other. It was my guess that using my theory made us likemagnets—accident magnets, as Gwen so kindly put it. We were hurdling towardeach other like comets at light speed, coming at each other so fast that wewere literally crashing into each other. We gave a new meaning to the phrase“bumping into each other” because we actually were.
It’s a unique feeling, being on this end of this odd littlesituation. I had been shoved out a second-story window, and then was luckyenough to snap my neck and be trampled by a horse I had spooked once when I hitthe ground. In the next life, I was rolled onto a very highly active beehiveand then stung to death (no, I am not kidding). Then, imagine the surprise Ifelt in the life after that one, when a certain someone was running with awallet he had stolen, and then shoved us both off a train platform into thepath of an oncoming train. I still don’t know if that person ever got theirwallet back.
I am sure all of this must seem rather disturbing from whereyou are sitting. I know I would certainly feel that way if I were reading thisfrom where you are. It’s quite an interesting perspective for me, being here,right now, knowing all that I do, versus being on Earth and having the limitedknowledge that we were allowed. It really turns things around and sheds adifferent light on it—don’t you think?
With the knowledge of home blocked from our memory, life anddeath can seem so absolute from the human perspective. Death seems final,bringing with it fear of the unknown, and such anguish to the ones that areleft behind.
You know what they say: hindsight is always 20/20. Imaginewhat Earth would be like if this knowledge weren’t blocked from our memory. Itwould certainly change the way we view our lives while we are there. Naturally,if some were armed with this knowledge, they would be much more adventurous,never taking their life seriously enough to truly learn anything. Life on Earthwould take on less meaning. Then again, perhaps knowing our lives do go onwould help some to live their life with less fear and appreciate their timethere. Maybe they would strive to be better because they know. Isn’t having alittle knowledge better than no knowledge at all? Something is better thannothing, isn’t it? To be able to utilize this knowledge might help propel usforward and help us gain a sense of purpose. If only there were a way to leaksome of this knowledge somehow…

Review: COLLEGE WEEKEND by R.L. Stine
Tina was just looking forward to acollege weekend with her boyfriend. It didn’t start off well when the girlsarrived to an empty train station, where her boyfriend, Josh, was not waitingfor her. Instead, Tina hears that he was stuck at a car garage with a faultytransmission. That was already putting a damper to her college weekend.
“Her first college party andinstead of being with her boyfriend, she was with his roommate.”
Suspicion starts to weigh in onTina. Was Josh really out camping? Why didn’t he take his car keys or hishiking boots? And where was her cousin, Holly?
Soon, Tina becomes the obsessionof a crazed stalker who thinks she’s his dead girlfriend.
A good read with suspense andfright!

Review: JEWELRY CAN BE DEADLY by Cindy Bell
Someone had just killed the newneighbor in the retirement community. All that was there was a half-eatenmuffin and a missing necklace. It took an ex-criminal to figure out the valueof that necklace and the real possibility that it was stolen. I liked that Jotook the reins on this case. She’s such a feisty and limber fighter. Seriously,you don’t want to mess with her. Can a band of thieves lure an old thief backto the life? It seemed that the team suspected any one of the master thieves.But thieves weren’t murderers…right?
It takes a thief to catch a thief(or, in this case, a murderer.)
Not only do you need to figure outwho the killer was, but you also need to find out who stole the necklace. So,there were two mysteries to solve here.
A good read!

Bekki was finally getting marriedto the love of her life. It’s been hectic planning a wedding, packing up herhouse, and running the beauty salon. The one thing she didn’t have time for wasfinding a dead jeweler and being accused of his murder. As Bekki was goingthrough the last-minute wedding preparations, she was trying to solve a murderand clear her name. I love seeing Bekki kick some tail, too!
A good mystery!

Review: DODGY DEALINGS by Cindy Bell
A married couple checked into theB&B, but they don’t check out. Instead, the ladies find the husband dead onthe road with the wife missing. What happened? Turns out the husband wasactually murdered. Was the wife another victim or the murderer? An interestingcase, for sure! Perhaps this had to do with the dodgy dealings in the husband’sbusiness?
A good mystery, for sure!

My Review: “Is there a crack in the beautifulcouple’s façade?” Yes, there most certainly was. But Paul and Amanda were notto let anyone else see it. It was the night they hit and killed the pedestrianthat ruined everything. Now, the beautiful couple must contend with the guiltand anxiety.
Amanda totally screwed herself bynot going to the cops right away. Would she get blamed for her husband’smistake now?
I thought this sounded like aninteresting premise. The storyline does take a while to get through with thevarious character perspectives. I kind wished this would’ve moved a lot faster.It just seemed like these characters were bogged down by their own personaldramas and it wasn’t even entertaining drama. I don’t know why the couple wasfreaking out so much. It was an accident after all and they certainly didn’tmean to kill her. And why were we getting a story from a cop?
This was a fairly nice read, butit could’ve been better.

Review: A funny illustrative guide onplants and how to garden for kids. I liked the pictures, which were verykid-friendly, and I liked how informative it was. However, there was so muchinformation written inside the pictures that I’m not sure how much of it a kidwould actually read. Perhaps this book was intended for an older age group ofkids. Nonetheless, kids will surely enjoy the pun and humor in the tinypictures. Kids can definitely learn with this. A good book!

We were in the dead of winter in Spirit Lake, Minnesota, a town dubbed the paranormal capital of the nation. I gazed through the frosted windowpane at the ominous fog that hung low over Whisper Lake.
I crossed my arms in front of me, briskly rubbed my biceps, and shivered. It was a brutal cold that seeped deep into the bones and seemed to even send the inn’s resident ghost into hibernation.
The library’s gas fireplace clicked off by itself, the dancing flames disappearing. I guess I wasn’t in the room alone after all. I shuddered and glanced down at my feet where Aspen, my red retriever emotional support animal, stretched lazily on his side, eyes half closed, unfazed.
Since the 1940s, guests of the Spirit Lake Inn, home to the famous apparition, have heard a woman’s whispers on the lake, earning its name, Whisper Lake, the fireplace in the library turned off and on by itself, the espresso machine in the coffee bar hummed to life, and many other unexplainable incidents, all while no one else was present.
The old grandfather clock in the corner of the room ticked methodically as the pendulum swayed back and forth. When the clock’s St. Michael chime announced the top of the hour—and fifteen minutes until teatime downstairs—Aspen rolled onto his stomach and pushed himself up onto all fours.
“Come on, boy,” I said, ruffling the fur on his neck. “Snack time.”
