Read the first chapter of That Old Emerald Mountain Magic [NEW RELEASE]
Read the first chapter of my holiday romance, That Old Emerald Mountain Magic:
Joy Turner could feel tears forming in the back of her throat. She wasn’t the crying type, though, so she swallowed hard and pressed her lips into a thin smile as she pulled her best friend, Danny, into a hug.
“You’re going to do great,” she said over his shoulder as she made sure the tears would stay at bay before releasing the embrace. “They’re gonna love you.”
“Yeah?” he asked with a nervous smile. “What makes...

Nabokov and Highsmith: Oh, What A Tangled Web We Weave
There is something you must know about me, dear reader. I… am an enormous book nerd.
I’m a former English major, an analytical reader, a harsh reviewer, and a digger into the depths of my favorite novels. When I find a book or an author I like, I have to read everything that person ever did, and I have to know about their lives as well. I need to know every detail of a book.
I read Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita in 2013 and it quickly became one of my favorite novels – not for the disturbing conte...

Read the first chapter of The Origins of Heartbreak [NEW RELEASE]
Read the first chapter of my latest release, The Origins of Heartbreak:
Megan Callahan stood nervously on the side of a small stage at the front of an ornately decorated church, waiting for her name to be called. It was late September and she was standing in line with a hundred and fifty other people, all waiting to receive their white coats as they began their second year of medical school.
She had spent the morning going through all of the technical details of starting a new school year —...

Do you want to go ‘behind the scenes’ with me?
If you’ve been following me on Facebook or Twitter, you may have seen my hint a few weeks back that I had a little something up my sleeve for the holidays. It went something like this:
Well, the moment has come and I’m excited to tell you about the project I’ve been working on for the last few weeks.
I’ve been working hard to revise all of my novels, giving them another proofreading pass, improving the formatting, and redesigning the paperback covers to wrap all the way around and include th...

“Where do you get your ideas?”
It feels kind of strange to say, but after seven novels I guess you could call me a prolific author. The number one question that readers, friends, and family members ask me is where do all those ideas come from?
The answer I usually give is something along these lines:
I start with a very basic idea – inspiration drawn from my own life experiences, or a current event, or even something as small as the name of a street. (There’s one in my town called Moonlight Bay and it always makes me wonde...

Read the first chapter of The Rules of Engagement [NEW RELEASE]
Max and Ruby are back for the second book in the Rulebook series, The Rules of Engagement . Read the first chapter:
[image error]Ruby was sitting on the end of her boxy, university-issued couch, her girlfriend Max nestled against her. The only light in the room was the bluish glow from the television and they were snuggled beneath Max’s heavy blanket despite the warm weather, the air conditioning blasting just like Max liked it.
It was a routine that had become comfortable for them both in the last six mo...

Read the first chapter of Falling Gracefully [NEW RELEASE]
[image error]A former child prodigy, Melody was always the best dancer in her class – in her town, even. All that changed when she was accepted to a prestigious performing arts school in New York and quickly learned what it’s like to be a little fish in a big pond.
Pregnant at sixteen – and on her first date no less – Jessie had no choice but to drop out of school and pour heart and soul into raising her daughter, even if it did come at the expense of her own happiness.
My latest novel, Falling Graceful...

A Short(ish), Self-Indulgent History of My Life as a Writer
Okay, can I just gush for a second? My fourth book came out yesterday and this morning I’ve been reading the reviews and getting misty-eyed at stuff like this:
Seriously, comments like that make my day and fill my heart. I’ve gotten so much love from readers (not to mention encouragement from other lesfic authors – shoutout to Jea Hawkins and T.B. Markinson in particular) in the past four months since I started this crazy journey, and I wasn’t expecting any of it.
A little background on me…...
