Busy Annoying Everyone...
When my last book came out - October 2021 - I had a clear realisation. Autumn is the perfect time to publish a book. It's the run up to Christmas so you can piggyback onto the gift market, it's a clear few months before the festivities begin, and as you finish up the promotional activities surrounding the release, you can relax into the end of year and start the next book in January. It makes perfect sense.
Therefore, it's unfathomable to me why my new book is coming out in May. May 23rd to be p...

Breaking News...
Finally, FINALLY, we've made it. Yes, the day I've been banging on about since January 2022 has arrived. No longer under my weekly Writing News heading will you read, 'We're nearly there,' or, 'Just a few more read-throughs and then we're finished.' No more of any of that. The day is here. We have BUSINESS to deal with. Business that comes via the answers to three pressing questions.
1. What's the title of your new book, Nicky? Why, thank you for asking! It's called LEEZA MCAULIFFE HAS LOADS MORE ...

Buy the Boots...
Older woman life goals, right there.Isn't it marvellous getting older? Not only am I lucky to be granted the privilege, but I love how I know myself better. That makes sense, right? The more time you spend with someone, the more you get to know them. I've spent nearly forty-six years with myself. Aren't I lucky! I'm not even being sarky. I actually mean it, even when I'm being a tit. Aren't I lucky to be able to keep on keeping on. And don't I know myself better than I did when I was twenty? D:R...

Peugeot Memories and Typos...
Thirty-seven years ago today, I was nearly witness to my mum giving birth in the family Peugeot. Luckily she got to the hospital in the nick of time, and that's how I've managed to make my sister's birthday all about me! Happy birthday Mon! In other Monday morning news, I think there are birds living in my extractor fan. Whenever I sit on the loo, I hear what sounds like the squawkiest bunch of birds ever, just over my left shoulder where the fan is. I've looked (gingerly) but I can't see any be...

Tapas and Tunes...
Busy, busy, busy! That's me right now. It's often NOT me but it'd be a boring world if every week were the same. Right now, I'm waiting for my manuscript to be processed and made visible in online bookshops. That means a publication date is in the near future. I imagine you, like me, are on the edge of your seat. Straight backs, knees bent, and once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more!Writing News
I kinda just told you. My new book is so close to being preorderble I can barely breathe. ...

Juggling by the Sea...
Me, with a view, and a laptop. The good news? An AirBnB that I like, sent me a discount code to use before the end of January. The bad news? During a particularly busy flurry of indie-publishing activity, I'll be going on holiday! Yep, a mini-break is a-coming. Because it's only five minutes since Christmas, and because I've got loads of stuff to do, this isn't ideal. I'll need to juggle! But look, it'll be fine. There's free wifi and I'll pack my laptop. Life's too short not to use the discount ...

Let's Be Spicy...
For reasons I've yet to unpack, last week I had huge nesting energy. Not one for spring cleaning or, to be fair, keeping on top of my laundry, you can imagine my bewilderment to find myself sorting out my spice shelf. To be even fairer, it was long overdue. There was a myriad of jars past their sell by.
I've no problem with this. Unless it's starting to smell or mould, the date's just a guide, right? Using star anise that was supposed to be gone by 2021 is no issue at all. The rare occasion I us...

Beautiful Bleakness...
My Tuesday winter walkWhat do you need for the perfect snow day? Snow of course! Plus the freedom to be able to ditch your planned day of work to have exciting winter fun. BOTH things happened for me on Tuesday. How marvellously serendipitous! Once I'd clocked the weather and calmed my inner giddy goat, I reshuffled my To Do list and made space. What for? Well, how about a winter walk? Tick! Layering up to resemble the Michelin man? Tick! Back home to drinks, PJs, and fluffy socks? Tick! (Can yo...

How Far Can I Take You?..
I've been thinking about suspending disbelief. Oh, morning! How are you? Let's crack on. Over recent months, I've been mulling over the concept of suspending disbelief. Why? We'll get to that in a bit. First, here's an official definition of what I'm on about.
'Suspend Ones Disbelief: To ignore or look past ones incredulity at the improbability of something that occurs within a piece of fiction in order to better the experience of the work.'

Generic Rice and Reading Resumed...
Week 1 of 2024 is done. Congratulations, you made it! New Year is now relegated to the uncapitalised, calmer-vibed, new year, and soon it won't even be that. Are we gliding through the month with ease or were there a few technical hitches along the way? You want the good news? It doesn't matter! However you're tackling January, good on you. You're tackling it, and that's all that matters. Writing NewsI've been enjoying a decent period of non-writing. It's been nice to empty my head a bit. Meanwh...
