Happy Birthday, Mary Wollstonecraft, born 27 April 1759, died 10 September 1797
Five Quotes
My own sex, I hope, will excuse me, if I treat them like rational creatures, instead of flattering their fascinating graces, and viewing them as if they were in a state of perpetual childhood, unable to stand alone.
Simplicity and sincerity generally go hand in hand, as both proceed from a love of truth.
It appears to me impossible that I should cease to exist, or that this active, restless spirit, equally alive to joy and sorrow, should only be organised dust - ready to fly abroad the moment the spring snaps, or the spark goes out, which kept it together. Surely something resides in this heart that is not perishable - and life is more than a dream.
The beginning is always today.
It is vain to expect virtue from women till they are in some degree independent of men.Wollstonecraft was an eighteenth-century English writer, philosopher, and advocate of women’s rights. She wrote novels, treatises, a travel narrative, a history of the French Revolution, a conduct book, and a children’s book. She is best known for A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. Her daughter, Mary Shelley, wrote Frankenstein.

Happy Birthday, Mary Wollstonecraft! Her forward thinking attitudes are still very much in vogue (and needed) today.

Hi Kate! I'm always interested in how two writers collaborate on a novel - what was that process like for you and Bernie with The Secret Diary?
Hello! Wow, this is the first question I’ve been asked on Tumblr. I feel like I’ve arrived.
I’ve actually collaborated on several different projects before — from historical romance anthologies to TV pilots. And there are a couple things that are universal about working with other people, no matter the different personalities or quirks those people may have (for the record, everyone I’ve ever collaborated with has been lovely).
First, you have to make sure you are all on the same page at all times. that means planning out in advance the story, the outline, the division of labor, and if you come across any issues along the way, that you keep each other informed of them. Essentially, communication is key.
And secondly, once the same-pageness has been established, you then have to trust that your partner(s) will follow through. Don’t babysit. Don’t nag. You’re all professionals. They are trusting you to do your work, just as you are trusting them to do theirs.
hey! I'm not saying anything against the secret diary of lizzie bennet book but i just wanted to throw out the thought that I'd personally be much more interested in the secret diary of LYDIA bennet (not saying it's gonna happen lol). i related to her a lo
Aww, thanks. :) Always cool to still hear about people who liked what we got to do with that. And glad it was helpful to you.
And hey, maybe if The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet (which was written by relatively-new-to-tumblr Kate, so you know it’s gonna be good) sells well, they’ll want to make more featuring other characters? Perhaps even Lydia? (Or Kitty? Who wouldn’t want a book from her perspective??) *shrugs* Who knows. I think that’d be cool, though. And it’s neat that I still get messages that you guys think that, too. :)
But spin-offs never happen if the original doesn’t perform well, so I hope you guys will check it out ;)
