Gian Piero Bona was an Italian poet, novelist, playwright and translator

Son of the footbal player and intellectual Lorenzo Valerio Bona. After his studies in music and classic literature he traveled in Mid and Far East. He was one of the very first foreign translator of The Prophet of Khalil Gibran.

His first book of poetry, I giorni delusi (1955) was praised by Jean Cocteau. His later books of poetry were well received and won various prizes. In 1960 his first novel, Il soldato nudo (The Naked Soldier) caused controversy in Italy for his depiction of homosexuality within the army. In 2000 he translated the complete works of Arthur Rimbaud, one of his greatest influences.
