With December, comes BIG NEWS for this author!!!

It’s almost time for Christmas!
Can you believe it?

As this season unfolds around us, we have so many things to be thankful for. I am thankful for family and friends, for being able to spend so much time with my family, not having to go work in an office or business away from home. I pray this is always the case.

I am also thankful for the reason this season exists . . .

Did you know that we serve such an amazing God, a loving God, and a forgiving God. As humans, we build things, write things, draw or shape things – and then when something goes wrong with it, we toss it away and start fresh.

I thank God that he did not simply discard his flawed creation – instead sending his son down to Earth as a babe so that He could walk among us and then one day . . . save us from our own flaws, our own weaknesses and frailty, our very humanity; which caused so many to reject Him and crucify Him. He knew all of these things ahead of time, but He still came.

And there is no better story than His!

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.

2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

~ Luke 2 (KJV)

Before you go, I have some exciting news…

Since the day I first created my fan page on Facebook, I have had messages, posts, and comments posted – asking me where my books can be bought… or when they will be available.

Of course, each one of these posts thrilled me because it showed me that readers were interested in what I had to say.

I watched as the number of “likes” on that page steadily climbed and I debated on whether or not I wanted to go with traditional publishing or if I should Indie publish.

Many of you know that I had a disheartening experience earlier this year with an agent… who told me my work was ready to sell, but ultimately decided not to represent me. I was hurt – and decided to throw in the towel (figuratively) for a bit… but I’m thankful to say that GOD is not finished with my work yet!

HE has much better plans for me…

Following HIS leading, I was moved to try again, and…

I am pleased to announce that I officially have an agent – a fantastic, talented, successful agent. And she believes in my work. We have met once and spoken twice over the phone and I am pleased to say that we get along famously!

DA DA DA…DA

I am now represented by Tamela Hancock Murray of the Steve Laube agency! WHOO HOO!

Here I am, grinning as I prepare to sign the contract…

Here I am, signing the contract!

And here I am, being silly while I prepare to sign the contract! I love out-takes so much, I just had to share some with you!

I can’t imagine a better day! Well, except maybe the day Tamela calls to tell me she has a publisher who wants to work with me… or the day I sign that contract… maybe the day I get to hold the first copy of my book… or perhaps the day I see it in a book store…

You get the idea…

If you’re interested in keeping up with all of this, think about signing up for my NEWSLETTER! YAY!

Merry CHRISTmas to you and yours!

GOD Bless!

Being single and adhering to God’s will | From the other side of marriage

I read an article this morning – and it inspired the following post.

So, being single at 28 doesn’t mean I’m desperate, but it does mean that I’m choosing to sacrifice my desires for God’s desires and plan.

TODAYSCHRISTIANWOMAN.COM

I’m Not Desperate, Just Single.

Please stop stigmatizing my singleness

. . .

First off, let me say – I LOVE this article. It touched my heart and gave me renewed sense of purpose.

Second, I will tell you that I live on the other side of this discussion – not just because I am in my thirties, but also because I am single, having married and divorced in my twenties.

For years . . . absolutely years, I heard “Just give yourself some time. You’ll decide to move on at some point and meet someone new.”

Well, I tried that. Before I re-dedicated my heart and life to God, I tried NOT being married and having the full-on relationship. I went from one-night stands to serious committed relationships to casual dating and “hooking-up”.

And I have to point out right here that I had a pretty impressive track record for a girl who was told over and over and over in high school that she would never be attractive to men unless she dropped about 50 pounds. Amazingly enough, I did lose about 30 pounds after my divorce. And then I got involved in a relationship that lasted over two years – and when that one ended, I was actually heavier than I was in high school. So I spent my wild years in relationships with men (not all handsome, but not all dogs either) who found my plus-size figure attractive enough. . . No, I’m not condoning my behavior – I’m just pointing out that size doesn’t make as much a difference as everyone would like to think.

OK.

After I decided my crazy, mixed-up, messed-up ways were not the best way to go about things, I decided I needed to get married again.

Clearly, since I reside once again in the world of the single life, that was a mistake.

I did not wait for God’s leading.

I did look for signs from God, but I was seeing them in the wrong places and still going about things all the wrong way. So it’s really no wonder that things ended . . . badly.

And once again, I heard the well-wishers who proclaimed that all I needed was to give my heart time to heal.

But here’s the thing (and it’s really the most important thing) . . .

It’s not about what I want.

GOD knows – so much better than I ever could – what is the right way for me, what is the right thing for me.

If I had listened to God . . . if I had waited for God . . . my life would be very different right now.

I might be married . . . I might not . . . But my life would definitely be very different.

THIS TIME, I am determined to wait for God’s plan. I am determined to wait for God’s will! And if that means I spend my life without a husband, then THAT is what I am going to do!

It doesn’t matter that my entire family looks at me like I’m damaged goods.

It doesn’t matter (though it really does hurt) that the families in our home-school organization look at me like I’m being rebellious and strong-willed. I know why I’m doing this and IT. IS. WORTH. IT!

So, from the other side of marriage, I have to agree with Rachel on this aspect, at least – it is more important that we do what WE KNOW GOD wants from us and WE have to make the choice to FOLLOW HIS leading!

IN GOD I TRUST!

WE WILL NEVER FORGET!

In remembrance of the day, of the lives lost, of the history and culture lost on that day… I will not be online between 8:46 and 10:28 am EDT today.

If anyone is interested, I am posting a basic timeline below.

For the full unabridged timeline, click HERE and visit the memorial site.

• 7:59 am – American Airlines Flight 11, a Boeing 767 with 92 people aboard, takes off from Boston’s Logan International Airport en route to Los Angeles.

• 8:14 am – United Airlines Flight 175, a Boeing 767 with 65 people aboard, takes off from Boston; it is also headed to Los Angeles.

• 8:20 am – American Airlines Flight 77 takes off from Dulles International Airport outside of Washington, D.C. The Boeing 757 is headed to Los Angeles with 64 people aboard.

• 8:41 am – United Airlines Flight 93, a Boeing 757 with 44 people aboard, takes off from Newark International Airport en route to San Francisco. It had been scheduled to depart at 8:00 am, around the time of the other hijacked flights.

• 8:46 am – Mohammed Atta and the other hijackers aboard American Airlines Flight 11 crash the plane into floors 93-99 of the North Tower of the World Trade Center, killing everyone on board and hundreds inside the building.

• 9:03 am – Hijackers crash United Airlines Flight 175 into floors 75-85 of the WTC’s South Tower, killing everyone on board and hundreds inside the building

• 9:37 am – Hijackers aboard Flight 77 crash the plane into the western façade of the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., killing 59 aboard the plane and 125 military and civilian personnel inside the building.

• 9:59 am – The South Tower of the World Trade Center collapses.

• 10:07 am – After passengers and crew members aboard the hijacked Flight 93 contact friends and family and learn about the attacks in New York and Washington, they mount an attempt to retake the plane. In response, hijackers deliberately crash the plane into a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, killing all 40 passengers and crew aboard.

• 10:28 am – The World Trade Center’s North Tower collapses, 102 minutes after being struck by Flight 11.

• 5:20 pm – The 47-story Seven World Trade Center collapses after burning for hours; the building had been evacuated in the morning, and there are no casualties, though the collapse forces rescue workers to flee for their lives.

I am thrilled to say that, though we’ve never forgotten, we have moved on and we stand proud and strong – rebuilding and showing our resilience as a nation.

Parents, teach your children the significance of that day fourteen years ago.

And PRAY today for everyone who lost loved ones on that day. PRAY thanks for everyone who volunteered that day to put their life on the line. PRAY for the leaders of our country, and for the people of the world.

PRAY for the salvation of those who do not know Jesus Christ. PRAY that they would see the truth of God’s love and accept the precious gift that Jesus gave to us more than 2,000 years ago.

God Bless You!

Never forget…

Let’s Get Real – Grateful!

Today is my birthday… and I am ever so much more grateful today than I was yesterday…

Yesterday I was feeling a bit melancholy. I tend to be introspective this time of year and the devil takes advantage of that to hit me hard with some things that I normally don’t even think about.

He loves to drag me down and he loves to lie to me and tell me… probably the same things he tells a lot of people… I’m not special. I’m not loved. I’m not worth anything. I’m not truly saved… the list goes on and on but you get the idea.

Thankfully, I was reminded this morning – by a friend’s recent blog post – that I have SOOOOOOOOOOO many things to be thankful for!

I have an amazing family who loves me, puts up with me, takes care of me, and tells me regularly… that they cannot live without me!

I have wonderful friends, both online and in real life, who tell me how talented and brilliant I am and how they cannot wait to see what God has in store for my gifts!

I have unbelievable talent that God has blessed me with – me… the girl who’s not special. Well, I’m not – but God obviously has some special plans for me!

I have the best, sweetest, most precious blessings of children – who love me despite my faults and shortcomings, who tell me they like me fat, like me even when I get fussy, hug me even when I lose my temper or patience, and cannot stand to be away from me even for the short time it takes to go pick up dinner and bring home.

I have had thirty-six years of blessing and love and patience from my heavenly father; who stood by me even when I turned my back on him, lifted me up even when I chose to lay in the ditch, and carried me through the storms I stumbled my own way into!

I am so very amazingly, unbelievably, incredibly, spectacularly BLESSED!

I am Grateful and I am Thankful and I am in AWE! And I hope you’ll join me!

GOD BLESS YOU!

~ Rachel

I am an island…

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.                  – 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Originally, I started this post very differently…

Of course, I deleted it and started over when I realized just how whiny and annoying I sounded – and I decided I was going to try again, with the RIGHT attitude!

Yes, most of my family thinks I’m a freak, a sponge, a big fat cow…

Yes, the people in most churches we visit look at me with their head tilted to the side and a look of intense pity on their face…

Yes, I pay A LOT of money to belong to an organization that is supposed to be full of other authors who are there to support each other – and when I need something, most of the others don’t have time for me…

BUT…

NONE OF THAT MATTERS!

1 Thessalonians 5:18 – In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Psalms 107:1 – O give thanks unto the LORD, for [he is] good: for his mercy [endureth] for ever.

Ephesians 5:20 – Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Colossians 3:15-17 – And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.   (Read More…)

James 1:17 – Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Philippians 4:6 – Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

2 Corinthians 9:15 – Thanks [be] unto God for his unspeakable gift.

Psalms 106:1 – Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for [he is] good: for his mercy [endureth] for ever.

Psalms 105:1 – O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.

Colossians 3:15 – And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Colossians 4:2 – Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

Psalms 118:1-18 – O give thanks unto the LORD; for [he is] good: because his mercy [endureth] for ever.   (Read More…)

Psalms 20:4 – Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.

Psalms 30:12 – To the end that [my] glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

Colossians 3:17 – And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, [do] all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Romans 1:21 – Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

I AM THANKFUL for the WONDERFUL author and friend who has shared her time and her expertise and her experience so we would not have to learn these things the hard way (the way she had to with a lot of things). She has encouraged me on every step of this crazy and wild journey through writing and publishing and I would not be where I am… right now… if it were not for her! Bless you Rachel! I could not ask for a better friend or mentor!

I AM THANKFUL for the AMAZING author who not only gave of her time but her own praise – and not just to my mother’s book (which is AMAZING and TOTALLY deserves all every single bit of praise it gets) but to me, for being such a great daughter. Suzanne, you are AWESOME! and such a blessing!

I AM THANKFUL for the wonderful readers who have jumped at the opportunity to read my mother’s upcoming release and I can never adequately express my thanks for how much you are appreciated!

I AM THANKFUL for our wonderful and amazing friend who sent us to our very first writer’s workshop! Without that, we would never have embarked on this particular branch of the journey and we would not be about to release a book- in just 11 days – WOW! Thank you Pam! You are an amazing friend, a terrific “adopted” grandma and we are so blessed just to know you!

I AM THANKFUL for preachers who are not afraid to speak TRUTH! I pray God continues to bless their ministries and that they reach countless lives and plant the seeds that God needs to work in people’s lives!

I AM THANKFUL for the opportunity to reach out and share my thoughts and my feelings and my FAITH with anyone who happens across my blog.

I’m sure…REALLY sure there are so many more things I could list. I could probably write forever and never list everything!

One of my favorite singing groups sings a song about counting your blessings. They say when you get to the end, just start again – but I don’t think we can ever really get to the end. God is boundless and His LOVE flows over and around us each and every day.

His blessings are over us, under us, next to us, and right in front of us and there is absolutely no way we could ever list every single one… and especially no way we would be able to start over and count them all again.

so the last thing is this:

I AM THANKFUL for JESUS! He gave me life. He gave me rebirth! He has had more patience and affection and understanding of me than anyone else is capable of and I would not be here today without HIS saving grace!

Have you accepted HIS saving grace?

YOU HAVE TIME! …but only so much. DON’T WAIT! DO IT NOW… TODAY!

GOD BLESS YOU!

~ Rachel

Chris Pratt… Kiera Cass… Bethany Hamilton… Need I say more?

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.                  – 1 Thessalonians 5:18

OK, right now some of you are looking back and forth at my title and the picture above and going – What…?

Well, it’s like this…

Yes, Chris Pratt starred in a nasty movie that you could not pay me to go see – BUT – all over the news, along with the rave reviews of this gross and disturbing movie, are articles about how he has stood firm on his faith. He did not back down from WHO HE IS in GOD! He has held tight to that faith.

And for that, I applaud him!

Yes, Kiera Cass writes books with girls in pretty dresses gracing the front cover… Guess what – those pretty little dresses have danced Kiera’s books into the hands of millions of readers and onto the Best-sellers list!

And in every single book so far, Kiera acknowledges GOD as her inspiration and savior!

Yes, Bethany Hamilton parades herself around in a bikini – and I have to admit, I used to think a bit less of her… that she has so little respect for herself… typically surfers wear a swim shirt, NOT a bikini, when they surf – but now, I have nothing but thankfulness for her. Bikini or not – she talks about her faith every day. She dedicates her life and her accomplishments to God and she spreads THE WORD to so many places that the average Christian could never hope of reaching! AMAZING!

So, instead of jumping to the first conclusion my mind wants to take… and passing judgement on people I don’t know, have never met, am likely never to meet, and don’t have a clue of what it’s like to live in their shoes… I AM GOING TO BE THANKFUL!

Colossians 3:15-17 – And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Psalms 105:1 – O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.

I AM THANKFUL for Chris Pratt – who has taken a stand on his faith and refuses to back down!

I AM THANKFUL for Kiera Cass – who takes the time to Thank God in each one of her books – even though they aren’t classified as Christian or Inspirational fiction!

I AM THANKFUL for Bethany Hamilton – who spreads GOD’S WORD everywhere she goes and who Thanks GOD for everything she is… and does… and has!

I AM EVEN THANKFUL for Stephenie Meyer – who, though I don’t share the exact same belief system with, stands up for her faith and will not back down from who she is in GOD!

I AM THANKFUL that, because of these AMAZING men and women, the “little people” can stand up and share our own faith… a little bit easier

I AM THANKFUL that their example and their courage has given me the opportunity to share with others, MY FAITH!

And,

I AM THANKFUL for JESUS!!!! He gave me life. He gave me rebirth! And He has given the world so many chances… chances that we do not really deserve – because He, like me, does not want to see anyone miss out on HEAVEN!

Have you accepted HIS saving grace?

YOU HAVE TIME! …but only so much. DON’T WAIT! DO IT NOW… TODAY!

GOD BLESS YOU!

~ Rachel
