Sometimes, we are given different paths throughout our lives based on what others think is a good fit for us. If you come from a particular family, maybe you only have a couple of career options to pursue that would please your parents. If you have shitty grades in high school, maybe your teachers have told you that you could only get a job flipping burgers.

Whether it’s family or a complete stranger, you need to understand that these types of people will never help you reach your full potential because they have failed to identify the skills and abilities that make you unique.

Like your fingerprint, you have been given unique abilities that make you special, and when you combine them with your particular experiences, there isn’t a person walking this earth that can offer what you offer. Other people may possess similar abilities, but they are not you.

Inspiration is something I ask for every day, and some days I’m lucky enough to receive it. I try my best to capture and expand on this feeling whenever it comes but, to be honest, I have no idea how it finds me or what form it takes. It might be a quiet voice in the back of my mind telling me which direction to take or something as simple as a breeze that shifts my attention to something on my path that changes my perspective. I don’t question where my inspiration comes from, but I’ve made it a habit to ask for it before tasting my morning coffee.

When I ask for inspiration from this strange place of peace and love, you can be damn sure I’m not complaining about not getting any yesterday or the fact that I’m struggling to pay my bills today. Instead, I show genuine gratitude for my inspiration with faith that it will show up when I need it most.

The thoughts that I have expressed in this book are based on things I’ve read, heard, or experienced over my lifetime. They are individual thoughts that have resonated with me and ideas I wish to share with anyone willing to listen. Although they are my thoughts today, they weren’t my thoughts yesterday, and who the hell knows if they will be my thoughts tomorrow.

The point is that they are only thoughts and not who I am. Who I am and who you are cannot be revealed in a quote from a book and certainly can’t be explained by thought alone. With so many thoughts floating around in your head, it’s hard to tell which ones are yours and which ones have been planted by your environment. If you try to distinguish between them, you’re wasting your time and you will probably go mad anyway. Read more…
